2022 Charles Schwab Challenge best value prop bets for 3 golfers

Three golfers to profit on at the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge, with PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets.

Several of the world’s top golfers head to Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas for the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge. Competition begins Thursday as Jason Kokrak looks to defend the title he won a year ago. Below, we tab the best value prop bets on a trio of golfers among the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.

Challengers include 2022 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, reigning British Open champion Collin Morikawa and last week’s 2022 PGA Championship winner, and new No. 1 overall golfer, Justin Thomas.

The field is comprised of 120 golfers and the Colonial Country Club is a Par 70 that plays at 7,209 yards. There’s an $8.4 million prize pool and the top-65 players, and ties, make the cut after 36 holes.

Collin Morikawa

This is one of the five-best golfers in the world and there’s value in Morikawa here because of how poorly he played in last week’s PGA Championship where he finished 55th.

Morikawa knows he needs reps to find the form required to win his third career major.  If there’s anyone that could bounce back quickly from a disappointing performance to win a tournament with a stacked field, it’s Morikawa.

The 5-time PGA event winner ranks 1st on my custom stat model and 2nd in SG for tournaments with moderate to strong wind conditions (according to FantasyNational.com). It gets windy this time of the year in Texas and the weather forecast is predicting wind speeds ranging from 8 to 22 mph for the upcoming Charles Schwab.

Morikawa is 3rd in opportunities gained on difficult to hit fairways (which Colonial has) and 9th SG at the Charles Schwab Challenge in this field (last 24 rounds), according to FantasyNational.com.

  • $20 for winner (+1500) to earn a $300 profit
  • $30 for top-10 finish (+200) to earn a $60 profit
  • $50 for top-20 finish (+100) to earn a $50 profit

Daniel Berger

This is my favorite play in the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Berger is the best in this field at comp courses (per FantasyNational.com) and performs well after missing the cut in previous tournaments. He missed the cut in last week’s PGA Championship but has placed in the top-20 following his last six missed cuts.

Berger won the 2020 Charles Schwab Challenge and back-to-back St. Jude Invitationals in 2016-17. He has two other top 5’s in the St. Jude’s and a 3rd in the 2020 RBC Heritage. All of these tourneys are played on courses similar to the Colonial Country Club.

  • $20 for winner (+4000) to earn an $800 profit
  • $30 for top-10 finish (+380) to earn a $114 profit
  • $50 for top-20 finish (+162) to earn an $81 profit

Tom Hoge

Hoge has performed solidly since winning his 1st-career PGA event at Pebble Beach in February.

He followed up that victory with a 14th-place finish at the 2022 Phoenix Open and has back-to-back top-20 finishes in his last two events, including a T9 in the last week’s PGA Championship.

More importantly, Hoge is one of the best iron players in the world and ranks 3rd in SG: Approach in this field. Hoge ranks 3rd in this field for Par 4 efficiency: 400-450 and 7 holes on this course are within that distance.

Also, Hoge played college golf at Texas Christian University, which is in Fort Worth, so odds are Hoge is very familiar with the course.

  • $20 for winner (+6000) to earn an $1,200 profit
  • $70 for top-20 finish (+240) to earn a $168 profit
