Chargers at Saints game notes
- The Chargers are back east of the Mississippi River for the second straight weekend against an NFC South team. They fell 38-31 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4, covering a 7.5-point number by the hook. They might be 1-3 straight-up (SU), but they’re 3-1 ATS.
- The Chargers offense had been struggling, averaging 17.3 PPG until last week’s breakout performance. Of course, the defense also allowed a season-high 38 points, so that didn’t help.
- The Saints have been so-so overall, winning two and losing two. They have scored at least 30 points in three of their four games, and at least 24 in all four contests. However, the defense has also allowed at least 29 points in each of the past three games for an average of 33.3 PPG. It’s no wonder the Over is a perfect 4-0 in Saints games this year.
- This is the highest spread of the season for New Orleans. In each of its first four games it has closed as a 3- or 4-point favorite, going 2-2 ATS. In its most recent home game, it lost outright as a 3-point favorite to Green Bay 37-30 on Sept. 27.
- BetMGM opened the total at 52, but it has since dropped 2.5 points. That’s odd considering the fact New Orleans hasn’t had an Under connect this season. Of course, the Under is 4-1 in five Monday night games in 2020.

Chargers at Saints: Odds, betting lines, picks and prediction
Prediction
Saints 31, Chargers 24
Money line (?)
The Saints (-435) aren’t going down at home for a second consecutive game, but they’re also not worth risking more than four times your potential return. Over the long run, that’s just bad betting. AVOID.
Against the spread (?)
The CHARGERS +8 (-110) cashed last week by the narrowest of margins, and they’ll do so again in the Dome. They have the firepower to hang with the Saints in this Monday nighter, especially against a New Orleans D which has been very giving.
Over/Under (?)
The OVER 49.5 (-110) is the way to go, despite the MNF trends overall. New Orleans is defensively challenged, and if Lattimore joins Jenkins in street clothes, the Saints are going to have even more trouble on the back end. If Thomas is active, even better, as the offense will get a jolt. All signs point to this one being an entertaining track meet.
