Atalanta and Valencia will meet for the first time in a competitive setting when they face-off in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 matchups at Gewiss Stadium on Wednesday.

Both teams will be eyeing this draw as an opportunity to clinch a memorable quarterfinal place in Europe’s top-level competition, though injuries and suspensions could spoil Valencia’s first-leg plans.

Atalanta, enjoying a dream run in its Champions League debut, emerged as 2-1 victors in a preseason friendly when these teams met in their only previous encounter of any kind at Mestalla Stadium in August 2017.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s men finished a distant second to Manchester City in Group C to reach the knockout stages, while Valencia turned things around at the final hurdle in Group H to top the pile via head-to-head record.

The frustration for Los Che is that its resources look severely restricted for the trip to Bergamo, Italy, while Atalanta will enjoy a clean bill of health for the home clash. Centre-back Gabriel Paulista was sent off in Valencia’s final group fixture, a 1-0 win away to Ajax, and won’t be featured in the first leg, while defensive partner Ezequiel Garay is out with an injury. That should see Eliaquim Mangala and Moukhtar Diakhaby start in the heart of the defense. Right-back Cristiano Piccini and forward Manu Vallejo will also not be back from injury in time for the first leg, while striker Rodrigo Moreno and midfield anchor Francis Coquelin are both doubtful.

Atalanta is unbeaten in four matches and has won three of those, getting back to its winning ways at home against Roma on Saturday after drawing 2-2 with Genoa in its previous outing at Gewiss Stadium.

Valencia hit back twice from behind to draw 2-2 at home on Friday to a faltering Atletico Madrid, though the team is still without a win in three games across all contests.

While La Dea is hoping to make the quarterfinals in its maiden Champions League season, Valencia is targeting its first run into the last eight since the 2006-07 campaign.

How to Watch Tottenham Hotspur vs. RB Leipzig, UEFA Champions League Live Stream, Schedule, TV Channel, Start Time

Watch Tottenham Hotspur vs. RB Leipzig Live Online.

The holidays are finally behind us, which means soccer fans can open their real presents. The Champions League is back and the Round of 16 promises to be must-see TV. Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham hosts Bundesliga title contenders RB Leipzig on Wednesday in the first leg of their knockout round tie. While one club may be more recognizable to the Champions League scene, this matchup is about as even and unpredictable as it gets.

  • When: Wednesday, February 19
  • Time: 3:00 p.m. ET

Spurs actually spent money in the January transfer window to improve their floundering squad. The additions of winger Steven Bergwijn and midfielder Gedson Fernandes has given Mourinho some interesting options when it comes to his best lineup. Tottenham’s recent form since those moves has improved, suggesting the morale has also risen. A return to the Champions League next season now looks within reach domestically, but its attention must be focused on a very good Leipzig team. It will be difficult for the Spurs without the services of the injured Son Heung-min or Harry Kane up top, but the talent is there to make another deep run in this competition.

The winter break was not kind to RB Leipzig. After becoming first-half champions in the Bundesliga, the team has come back with inconsistent form. RB Leipzig relinquished its lead atop the table to Bayern Munich and finds itself in a neck-and-neck battle. Life won’t get much easier in Europe when the team faces a Spurs team hungry to prove last season’s appearance in the final was no fluke. To make matters worse, Leipzig’s leading scorer Timo Werner has gone cold in front of goal. If the Germans have a chance to get past this round, the team needs him to rediscover his first half form.

The Champions League finally returns on Tuesday as the Round of 16 begins with a bang. Borussia Dortmund, with the massive support of the Yellow Wall behind the team, will host Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of this much-anticipated knockout round match. The two star-studded teams have changed quite a bit in the past few months. It should be a fascinating two legs between two great sides.

Lucien Favre has survived the ax hanging above his head and got Dortmund back on track. The winter transfer window signing of striker phenom Erling Haaland from RB Salzburg has helped the Black and Yellow quite a bit. Since the Norwegian’s arrival, Dortmund’s attack has been flying. He’s formed instant chemistry with fellow young star Jadon Sancho to form one of Germany’s most deadly attacking duos in a very short time. Thanks to a recent rule change regarding cup-tying players, Haaland will be eligible to play for Dortmund in the knockout stages despite being one of the competition’s leaders with eight goals for Salzburg.

Unlike previous seasons, the timing of the UCL knockout rounds is lining up nicely for PSG. Neymar appears ready to return from injury for the important stretch of the season instead of missing it. Meanwhile, the rest of PSG’s talented squad is relatively fit and ready to go. Kylian Mbappe will be the man to keep an eye on in this match. Dortmund’s defense has been its biggest weak spot this season. If Mbappe can use his blazing speed and incredible intelligence to make life even worse for Dortmund’s back line, the Frenchmen could have a huge impact in the 180 minutes.
