Celtics at Raptors picks and predictions

Prediction

Raptors 120, Celtics 110

Moneyline

BET RAPTORS (+100).

Toronto will be desperate to bounce back after blowing an 18-point lead at Minnesota. Tatum is out for Boston, but the Raptors won’t underestimate the Celtics since Boston has won 7 of their last 9 meetings. The Celtics only defeated the Warriors by 3 points with Tatum playing and should struggle without their leading scorer against the Raptors.

Against the spread

PASS.

There is no need to buy the extra 1.5 points on Toronto when the Raptors should win straight up. Bet the moneyline or total instead.

Over/Under

BET OVER 225.5 (-112).

The Over is 5-1 in Toronto’s last 6 games and 4-1 in Boston’s last 5 vs. teams with a losing record. The Celtics and Raptors are 3rd and 6th, respectively, in average points over the last 3 games and should continue to impress on the offensive end as the Over hits Saturday.

Boston Celtics at Toronto Raptors odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Boston Celtics at Toronto Raptors odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Two of the top six teams in the East will clash Monday night when the Boston Celtics (47-28) visit the Toronto Raptors (42-32). Tip-off from Scotiabank Arena is at 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Celtics vs. Raptors odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Celtics are red hot right now, winning their last six games and nine of their last 10. They’ve covered the spread in five of their last six too, and have pulled even with the Miami Heat for the top seed in the East. The Celtics own the best defense in the NBA, with a rating of 105.9 and allowing just 103.9 points per game. The offense is still lagging behind a bit, ranking 14th in points per game (110.7) but Boston has been shooting it well as of late.

The Raptors have also been playing extremely well recently, going 8-2 in their last 10 games and winning their last two. They’re sixth in the East and like the Celtics have a top-10 defensive rating (110.1). PF Pascal Siakam leads the team with 22.2 points per game while SG Fred VanVleet is at 20.6 points per game.

Celtics at Raptors odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Celtics 110, Raptors 108

Money line

Despite likely being without Horford and Williams against the Raptors, I still like the CELTICS (+145)  to win this one outright. They’re playing their best ball of the season right now, coming together nicely as a team. It helps that they’re shooting it substantially better than they were before the calendar turned to 2022, but the ball movement has created more open shots. This is a good opportunity to get a top team at plus money.

Against the spread

You can protect your money line bet a little bit by putting a wager on the Celtics to cover the spread, getting 4.5 points from the Raptors. The Celtics have covered in four straight games against teams with a winning record.  They’re 12-4 ATS on the road against teams above .500, so they’ve been great in games like this one.

Bet the CELTICS +4.5 (-110)  to cover.

Over/Under

The total has gone Over in each of the Celtics’ last five games, with Boston scoring at least 124 points in each one. The Raptors have scored fewer than 100 in two of their last four games but they may not have to contend with Williams and Horford in the paint.

I like the OVER 212.5 (-115).

Boston Celtics at Toronto Raptors odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Boston Celtics at Toronto Raptors odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Boston Celtics (10-10) travel to Scotiabank Arena Sunday to take on the Toronto Raptors (9-11). Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Celtics at Raptors odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Celtics were on a three-game winning streak until that was snapped in Brooklyn the other night.

They coupled that with a loss to San Antonio and are now back to .500. Led by All-Star forward Jayson Tatum, the Celtics have the 14th-best net rating and are one of the 17 teams with a positive net rating.

The Raptors are not in the same boat, but All-Star forward Pascal Siakam has returned and rookie wing Scottie Barnes has played surprisingly well.

Those two should match up well against Boston’s wings, but this will be a tough game for Toronto if OG Anunoby isn’t active. Anunoby hasn’t played since Nov. 15. The Celtics are 11-9 against the spread (ATS) and the Raptors are 8-12 ATS,

Celtics at Raptors odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Celtics 112, Raptors 108

Money line

BET on the CELTICS (-105) as they may be getting Jaylen Brown back. It feels like Trent Jr. and Anunoby are more doubtful in this one than Brown.

Brown is a legitimate superstar when at full strength, and it would be shocking not to see him suit up. The Raptors have been awful at home. They’re just 2-6 at home this season. They have the 27th-best home net rating.

Along those lines, Toronto has the second-worst home defensive rating. The energy just isn’t there, and it’ll be exposed by Tatum, who is averaging more than 25 points per game this season.

I expect him to have a good game against a poor defense.

Celtics guard Marcus Smart is capable of slowing down Fred VanVleet and Boston’s defense should be able to limit Toronto’s backcourt.

Against the spread

PASS.

The value in this prediction, and really in this game in general, is on the money line. The 1.5-point spread, for either side, doesn’t do much to strengthen the value of the play.

Over/Under

BET OVER 209.5 (-107). As noted, the Raptors have one of the worst defenses in the NBA and really have poor interior strength, which Al Horford should be able to abuse. The Raptors are 12-8 O/U

The Celtics should get everything they want offensively, and I’d be shocked if both teams don’t drop a ton of points in this one.

The Celtics snuck past the Detroit Pistons 122-120 Sunday to earn a split of their back-to-back. The Raptors had a rest day following a 120-116 loss at the New Orleans Pelicans Saturday.

Celtics at Raptors: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Celtics 106, Raptors 103

Money line (ML)

The CELTICS (+125) are in a less than ideal spot by playing the second half of a back-to-back and third game of four straight on the road, but they’re still the play at plus-money against a struggling 1-4 Raptors team. Boston won three of four games against Toronto last regular season before winning their second-round playoff series in seven games.

The Celtics haven’t been at full strength yet this season and are missing Walker’s ball movement at the point, but SF Jayson Tatum will be the best player on the floor Monday. He’s averaging 24.3 points per game while SG Jaylen Brown leads the C’s with 28.0 PPG.

Three Celtics players played at 34 minutes Sunday but that was a matinee game which allows for a little extra rest ahead of Monday’s 7:30 p.m. ET tip. Toronto’s still struggling at both ends of the court after key offseason departures and shouldn’t be favored against its top competition so far this season.

Against the spread (ATS)

The money line is the superior play due to the +125 odds, but the CELTICS +2.5 (-105) should be backed with a little insurance in the event of a loss. Toronto’s three playoff wins against Boston last year were by 1, 7 and 3 points (in double overtime).

The Celtics are being outscored 112.3 to 111.6 on average, despite their 4-3 record. The Raptors’ minus-6.0 second-half scoring differential ranks 27th in the Association while the Celtics rank 25th at minus-5.0. It’s best to grab the three points with sloppy play expected once again in the final 24 minutes Monday.

Over/Under (O/U)

Back the UNDER 216.5 (-105). The Raptors are seventh in the NBA in pace (105.4 possessions per game) but second-to-last in offensive efficiency with 105.4 points per 100 possessions. The Celtics are 23rd in pace with 101.9 possessions per game.

Seven of last season’s 11 combined meetings played below Monday’s projected total.
