However, Tatum is playing at an MVP level right now and Brown is playing very solidly as well and they should be enough to beat a top heavy Hawks team.

The Celtics should be able to cover this spread due to the strength of their offense alone. If this game does come down to the wire as the spread would suggest, I give the edge to the Celtics. Tatum is 1 of the more clutch players in the league and he has been playing amazingly to start the season. The Celtics offense is far too strong for me to not believe in them covering.

The Celtics have won back-to-back games after dropping two straight, while the Hawks look to extend their five-game win streak.

Boston was off Wednesday and Thursday but return to action Friday after dominant performances against the Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards. The Celtics beat both teams by more than 29 points with a combined score of 244-162.

They’ve inched one game above .500 and are suddenly shooting the ball well – with SF Jayson Tatum being the biggest catalyst. He’s scored 77 points in his last two games, making 16 of 28 3-point attempts after missing 17 in a row over the three prior games.

Atlanta also throttled the Kings in its last game, beating them 121-104 to extend its win streak to five games. The Hawks’ last two wins have both been by double digits and they’ve covered the spread in all five games along their win streak.

All-Star PG Trae Young had an off night against the Kings with 17 points on 7-for-18 shooting, but he scored at least 28 points in each of his previous five games.

The Celtics are playing much better than they had been, but how much of that can be attributed to facing the Kings and shorthanded Wizards while riding Tatum’s hot shooting streak? The Hawks have won five games in a row and beat both the Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks in that stretch.

I like the HAWKS (-130) to win outright and continue their hot streak at home, where they are 4-2 in their last six games.

Against the spread

Both teams are 5-5- ATS in their last 10 games, but it’s the Hawks who have covered in each of their last five. Boston is just 3-4 ATS in its last seven games, even losing outright as favorites against the Portland Trail Blazers and Charlotte Hornets.

The HAWKS -1.5 (-115) are a good bet to beat the Celtics and cover the narrow spread.

Over/Under

The totals have gone under in each of the last two games for both the Celtics and Hawks, but that’s mostly because they won in blowout fashion. This game should be much closer and there should be an uptick in scoring with both teams healthy.

As long as Tatum stays hot and Young doesn’t have another cold night, I like the total to go OVER 217.5 (-112).

Atlanta snapped out of a recent six-game losing skid with back-to-back double-digit home victories over the Milwaukee Bucks Sunday and the Orlando Magic Monday. The Hawks 5-10 ATS and 7-8 O/U with the 20th-best net rating (minus-1.4).

The Hawks won the season series with the Celtics last year 2-1 overall and ATS with the Over cashing in each meeting. Atlanta’s Trae Young destroyed Boston last season, averaging 34.7 points per game on 75.7% true shooting (.610/.444/.909) with a plus-13 net rating.

Slight “LEAN” to the CELTICS (+155) for a tiny wager if at all because I “like” Boston to cover the spread and think there’s a little value on the underdog’s money line in this spot.

Trae should have a tougher time against this version of the Celtics who could have an elite defensive backcourt. It should be more difficult for Trae to get into a grove with the combination of guards Dennis Schroder and Marcus Smart defending him.

Furthermore, Smart didn’t play in any of the three Celtics-Hawks meetings last season. Smart is one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA and he averages the second-most steals per game (2.5).

Against the spread

BET the CELTICS +4.5 (-107) because they get better looks than the Hawks and Boston has a few strength on weakness edges over Atlanta.

For instance, ShotQuality.com ranks the Celtics eighth in adjusted shot quality differential while the Hawks rank 18th. Also, Boston contests the fifth-most shots per game whereas Atlanta the third-fewest shots per game.

On top of that, the Celtics play a lot of isolation offense and run a lot of their action through screens. Well, the Hawks have the third-worst defensive effective field goal shooting vs. isolation offense and the worst points per possession vs. plays off of screens.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 215.5 (-107) because Boston has the fourth-best defensive rating this month and a vast majority of the market is betting the Over, according to the Yahoo! Sports app.

Also, the Under is 5-1-1 in the last seven Celtics games.

However, a visit to the ATL might the cure to their ills, as the C’s are 4-0 ATS in their past four trips to Atlanta. The Celtics are 7-3 ATS in their past 10 on the second end of a back-to-back, while the Hawks are 1-5 ATS in their past six playing on no rest.
