WATCH: Who will new Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka hire to his staff?

There are more changes to come on Boston’s coaching staff – who will stay with the team, and who will he bring on board?

Any time an NBA team hires a new head coach, it creates something of a domino effect with the organization’s coaching staff, with the new coach bringing in at least some of his own supporting staff of assistants, even if she or he keeps a handful of the previous regime’s assistants for continuity.

And with the Celtics clearly valuing that — exemplified by moving former head coach Brad Stevens to the front office — it seems probable at least a few assistants may remain with the team. But with Jerome Allen leaving to join the Detroit Pistons and Scott Morrison interviewing for other jobs, it’s virtually assured we’ll be seeing some new faces on the team’s coaching staff soon.

Who will join Udoka in Boston? Who’s likely gone by opening day? The hosts of the CLNS Media podcast “Celtics Beat” debate exactly that in their latest episode with guest Jeff Garcia of the “Locked On Spurs” podcast for some insight into Udoka’s thinking.

ESPN’s Jay Williams says hacker behind awful tweet on Boston coaches, hilarity ensues

ESPN’s Jay Williams claims he was hacked when his account made an egregious error on Boston’s coaching history, but folks aren’t buying it.

It seems ESPN’s Jay Williams is having a rough day when it comes to Twitter, whether you buy his story or not. Willliams — or perhaps a hacker — took it upon himself to congratulate the new head coach of the Boston Celtics Ime Udoka for landing the coveted gig, only to make the mistake of suggesting he was the first Black head coach in franchise history.

Except, Udoka very much wasn’t. In fact, the very first Black head coach in league history was hired by Boston more than a half-century ago in one Bill Russell, and there have been five more since, including the one at the helm for their most recent title in one Doc Rivers.

Instead of admitting his likely mistake, Williams instead doubled down.

Is Ime Udoka in pole position to be the next head coach of the Boston Celtics?

The Nets assistant is increasingly looking like the favorite.

Whispers are turning into rumbles that assistant Brooklyn Nets head coach Ime Udoka could be the favorite to secure the vacancy in the Boston Celtics‘ head coaching position.

The Nets assistant, who has a good relationship with Celtics star wings Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown and veteran guard Marcus Smart via Team USA, is “believed to be at the top of Boston’s list to replace Stevens on the Celtics’ bench” according to the New York Times’ Marc Stein in his latest newsletter, a sentiment echoed by The Athletic’s Clevis Murray, who referred to Udoka as the team’s “favorite” candidate at the “top of their list” in a recent tweet.

“There’s been growing confidence the past few days he’ll be their guy,” added Murray.

Given the apparent rapport between Murray and several current Celtics, the fit seems a sound, logical one free from distracting baggage or the risk of alienating key parts of Boston’s future.

While the final decision could yet still be some time away, it’s very possible the future head coach of the Celtics could be Udoka.

WATCH: Could Kara Lawson coach the Boston Celtics?

The former Celtics assistant has had her name in the mix, if not hat in the ring.

If you live in Boston, you may have noticed a particular billboard not far from the Celtics’ practice facility calling on the team to consider hiring former assistant coach (and current Duke Women’s head coach) Kara Lawson to Boston’s vacant head coaching position.

That advertisement reflects a growing interest in seeing teams like the Celtics take the plunge in hiring a woman for the job, presuming she is the best candidate. Would Lawson be, if she were officially on the front office’s shortlist? Should she be, even if she hasn’t publicly stated she might want the job? Veteran Celtics beat writer Steve Bulpett makes an appearance on the CLNS Media podcast “Celtics Beat” to talk Lawson’s potential for the job, the state of the team, and more.

WATCH: Could a darkhorse candidate emerge as the favorite for the Celtics top job?

Celtic great Cedric Maxwell has an idea of at least one such option.

While there certainly wasn’t the sort of head coaching search the contemporary NBA demands at that time, when it was time to bring on Brad Stevens as the new top dog of the Boston Celtics, his out-of-nowhere hire actually surprised all of us and could perhaps end up being the path the team takes to replace Stevens in that role.

With a handful of candidates of color being bandied about by the press, could there be a dark horse candidate emerging as if out of nowhere for the hire for the second time in a row? Host of his eponymous podcast, on its most recent episode, CLNS’ Media’s Cedric Maxwell revealed he has just such a candidate in mind.

The former NBA Finals MVP gets into that, the Kemba Walker trade and lots more with co-host Josue Pavón in the video embedded below.

WATCH: Does Chauncey Billups’ past hurt his Boston Celtics coaching hire chances?

Allegations of sexual assault loom large in the baggage of the rumored top candidate.

Despite a spate of recent stumbles by the organization, the head coaching position of the Boston Celtics is still among the most desired and prestigious in the NBA, which has some questioning whether a handful of reported candidates are of sufficient character to helm the storied franchise’s roster.

This is exactly the question at hand for the hosts of the CLNS Media “Dome Theory” podcast when discussing the candidacy of one Chauncey Billups. With whispers regarding past allegations of sexual assault growing louder among fans of the Celtics and Portland Trail Blazers — with whom Billups is also interviewing — the debate over whether the former Celtic draft pick ought to be in the running for Boston’s top coaching gig is an important one.

On one hand, the incident in question is the sole example of such a black mark on Billups career, but on the other, there has been no evident contrition with plenty of qualified candidates with no such past to have to consider.

Boston’s Jaylen Brown tweets on head coaching ‘analytics;’ ex-teammate Terry Rozier reacts

After this tweet, we can likely count the Georgia native as among those who want a head coach of color for the Celtics.

If there was ever any doubt about whether it would be important to All-Star Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown whether the next head coach of the Celtics was a person of color, we can probably put that doubt to rest.

The outspoken Celtics star took to Twitter Wednesday evening to comment on a relationship he observed between playoff success in the 2021 NBA Playoffs and head coaching choices, tweeting “Analytics : 7 nba teams are remaining 4 are lead by African American head coaches.” When one considers the NBA only has one other African American head coach at present, Brown’s statement is all the more impactful.

Given recent reporting on the range of candidates for Boston’s head coaching search, this seem to be being taken into consideration by his team’s front office.

WATCH: Checking in on Boston’s head coaching search, offseason changes with David Aldridge

The Celtics’ offseason began with a bang, and more change is coming soon.

Celtics great Cedric Maxwell thinks Boston’s next coach should be a person of color

Having someone players can relate is an issue the former Finals MVP believes will help Boston.

After passing on an opportunity to interview minority candidates for the sudden opening of the Boston Celtics’ President of Basketball Operations position on Danny Ainge’s retirement in that role at the end of last season, the team has now embarked on an ambitious search to replace Brad Stevens as head coach after his promotion to team president.

And there are a growing number of voices advocating for a person of color to get that job, including Boston-area sports broadcaster and former Celtics champion Cedric Maxwell. Cornbread — as he was affectionately known as a player — talked about his feelings on who should helm the team he won an NBA Finals MVP with in 1981 in a recent interview with the Athletic’s Jay King.

“I think [hiring a person of color as coach is] important because if you look at the Celtics front office, if you look at most of those people who are there, who have been in the front office, ownership, everything else, those people aren’t of color,” he began.
