Two Browns rookies have been invited to the 2023 rookie premiere

Two Browns will participate in the event in two weeks.

The 2023 NFL draft is over and that means that offseason workouts will start to ramp up in preparation for training camps to start this summer. The 2023 NFL Players Rookie premiere will take place May 18-21 in Los Angeles and the Browns will have two of their new players attend. Both third-round pick Cedric Tillman and fifth-round pick Dorian Thompson-Robinson have been invited to the event.

Cedric Tillman has some impressive tape especially during his breakout season in 2021 before 2022 was lost mostly due to injury. Many fans were surprised when the team decided to use a draft pick on a quarterback as the team is looking for a long-term answer to back up Deshaun Watson.

So after the offseason so far what are the biggest questions remaining with the roster and what can we expect from this year’s rookies, those answers and more are in this edition of the Browns mailbag.

Podcast: Breaking down the Cleveland Browns’ 2023 NFL draft class

How does the overall draft class grade out?

The 2023 NFL draft for the Cleveland Browns started later than most, with their first pick being no. 74 overall. Starting with Tennessee wide receiver Cedric Tillman in the third round, the Browns managed to get some talented players that fell into their laps. Also, Andrew Berry traded away his final pick in the seventh round for an upgrade in the form of the Ravens’ sixth-round pick next year.

The players the Browns picked have the physical tools to become quality NFL players and contributors down the road. Some of these players need work on the fundamentals but they have the time as they won’t be thrust into starting roles if they aren’t ready for them. What did we learn from the Browns’ draft this weekend?

Former Panthers and Ravens WR Steve Smith loves Cedric Tillman

High praise from the former star wide receiver

It may have been a shock to some when the Cleveland Browns selected Tennessee wide receiver Cedric Tillman in the 2023 NFL draft. However, it is no surprise to former Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith.

High on Tillman to make an immediate impact at the NFL level, Smith had this to say:

“No one is talking about Cedric Tillman, but Cedric Tillman is a guy who understands exactly how to play football. He is Mr. Dependable. A lot of contested catches. He does not have the same speed as [Jalin] Hyatt but I believe he has the ability to contribute a little bit more. He understands how to get off of press coverage and he fights for extra yards… he is my sleeper as well.”

WATCH: New Browns WR Cedric Tillman gets the call

Watch as Cedric Tillman gets the big call.

One of the best parts of the NFL draft is watching the prospects get the call from the teams that select them. That was no different in the 2023 NFL draft, and they shared the moment they called their first selection. Taking Tennessee wide receiver Cedric Tillman off the clock with pick no. 74, the Browns tweeted out the video of general manager Andrew Berry letting him know he was the selection.

Good teams are greedy at wide receiver, and the Browns have finally gotten greedy at the position this offseason with the trade for Elijah Moore, the signing of Marquise Goodwin, and the selection of Tillman.
