PSA: Check your PC cooling system before playing Cyberpunk 2077’s DLC

Cyberpunk 2077’s DLC expansion Phantom Liberty is right around the corner, and the action game’s developer has some advice for PC players

Cyberpunk 2077’s DLC expansion Phantom Liberty is right around the corner, and the action game’s developer has some advice for PC players: test your cooling system. And everything else, for that matter.

Apparently, Phantom Liberty and the overhaul that comes with Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 may put a lot of strain on your computer. CD Projekt Red’s lead scene programmer Philip Pierściński gave the advice on Twitter and recommended players use Cinebench to test their current setup and ensure they could actually run the game.

“Before release CP2077 2.0 and PL please check conditions of your cooling systems in PC,” Pierściński said. “We use all what you have, so workload on CPU 90% on 8 core is expected. To save your time please run Cinebench or similar and check stability of your systems.”

That sounds ominous, but Pierściński clarified in the post’s comments that even eighth-generation i7 chips would be able to run the game, and those are six years old at this point. If you rely on simultaneous multithreading, though, Pierściński you should make sure you’re using a chip with no more than eight cores. If yours has 12 cores or more, he recommends you shut the feature off.

Pierściński didn’t say why the Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update will create such a burden on CPUs, though the free update and DLC expansion add quite a few new systems to the game, including new AI systems for police behavior and new skills. There’s a new Cyberpunk 2077 ending as well.

Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.0 update doesn’t have a firm release date yet, though Phantom Liberty will launch on Sep. 26, 2023, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

CD Projekt Red announces multiple new Witcher and Cyberpunk games

A new Witcher trilogy and Cyberpunk 2077 follow-up are already in the works.

Anyone itching for more Witcher and Cyberpunk adventures will be happy to hear CD Projekt Red is working on multiple game projects in both universes and beyond.

On Tuesday, CD Projekt Red announced five all-new games currently in development at the studio. Some of these are full-length AAA installments in existing franchises, while others are spinoffs or altogether new IPs. There are many codenames to sort through, so we’ll break everything down below.

New CD Projekt Red Games

  • Project Polaris: This is the next mainline entry in The Witcher series. It’ll be another AAA RPG that’s kicking off another trilogy that’ll supposedly all come out within six years.
  • Project Sirius: A title sent in The Witcher universe developed by another studio, The Molasses Flood, with support by CD Projekt Red. Multiplayer gameplay will be part of this title in addition to single-player.
  • Canis Majoris: Another massive title within The Witcher franchise that’ll be entirely separate from the Polaris trilogy. A yet-to-be-revealed studio is making Canis Majoris, though several Witcher veterans are leading the project.
  • Project Orion: A full-fledged sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. It’ll delve deeper into the franchise’s “dark future universe” and is being made by a new CD Projekt studio operating out of the United States.
  • Project Hadar: This is a brand-new IP from CD Projekt Red and is in the “earliest stages of the creative process,” meaning development hasn’t quite begun.

CD Projekt Red also released a short video going over all of these projects, which you can check out below.

Well, that’s a lot of video games that come out someday. We already knew another Witcher was coming in addition to the Cyberpunk 2077‘s Phantom Liberty expansion, but everything else is fresh.

Cyberpunk 2077 bugs reportedly caused by the deception of the QA team

Cyberpunk 2077’s numerous game-breaking bugs were apparently caused by numerous failings by the QA team.

Cyberpunk 2077’s numerous game-breaking bugs were apparently caused by numerous failings by the QA team, according to a new 72-page report.

As reported by YouTube channel Upper Echelon Gamers, a long-form report has been leaked by a whistleblower which points to a number of ways the QA team deceived developer CD Projekt. The Witcher developer and publisher had outsourced the quality assurance testing of Cyberpunk 2077 to the team at Quantic Lab.

The report concludes that Quantic Lab lied to CD Projekt in order to secure and maintain the lucrative contract. Firstly, it reportedly claimed the size of the team which would work on the project was much larger than reality in order to keep the contract. Secondly, Quantic Lab apparently said that the team was made up of a number of senior staff, however, it is claimed the team was actually made up of junior staff with less than six months of quality assurance experience.

[mm-video type=video id=01fneweg9c4wk5v2c2c9 playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fneweg9c4wk5v2c2c9/01fneweg9c4wk5v2c2c9-a0465eb771466761de4c34fc9ceabc05.jpg]

Quantic Lab apparently had a quota of bugs reports it had to submit each day. It is unclear whether this was an internal quota or one imposed by CD Projekt. However, this quota led to issues as thousands of minor bugs were reported preventing both QA and the engineers at CD Projekt from exploring the major game-breaking issues.

Shortly after release, co-founder of CD Projekt, Marcin Iwiński, updated fans in a video detailing a roadmap for bug fixes and explaining the reasons why Cyberpunk 2077 didn’t meet expectations. In it he claims “Our testing did not show a big part of the issues which you experienced while playing the game.” At the time this seemed ludicrous as a number of these bugs felt impossible to miss.

The new report shows that this might have been the case, due to both the programming and QA teams being inundated by minor bug fixes. Despite naming the QA team as one of the reasons for the game’s unsuitable release, Iwiński ultimately took responsibility for making the decision to release Cyberpunk 2077 in its broken state. “Please don’t fault any of our teams for what happened,” he said “Myself and the board are the final decision makers, and it was our call to release the game.”

CD Projekt Red halts all sales in Russia and Belarus

The studio behind Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 supports Ukraine.

CD Projekt Red, the studio behind Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077, is halting all video game sales on its GOG storefront in Russia and Belarus.

On Thursday, CD Projekt Red released a statement voicing support for the Ukrainian people.

“In light of the Russian military invasion in our neighboring country of Ukraine, until further notice, the CD Projekt Group has made the decision to halt all sales of our games to Russia and Belarus,” CD Projekt Red explains on Twitter. “Today, we begin working with our partners to suspend digital sales and cease physical stock deliveries of CD Projekt Group products, as well as all games distributed on the GOG platform, to the territories of Russia and Belarus.”

CD Project Red joins The Pokémon Company, Electronic Arts, and several other companies within the games industry to show support for Ukraine.

“The entire CD Projekt Group stands firm with the people of Ukraine. While we are not a political entity capable of directly influencing state matters, and don’t aspire to be one, we do believe that commercial entities, when united, have the power to inspire global change in the hearts and minds of ordinary people. We know that players in Russia and Belarus, individuals who have nothing to do with the invasion of Ukraine, will be impacted by this decision, but with this action we wish to further galvanize the global community to speak about what is going on in the heart of Europe.”

This decision comes days after Ukraine’s vice prime minister Mykhailo Fedorov called on the entire games industry to cease business with Russia and Belarus for now.

A new single-player Witcher Gwent game may arrive this year

Another hand from CD Project Red.

One of the most beloved side activities in RPG history is Gwent from The Witcher, and it’s getting a new spinoff later in 2022.

A report by IGN  confirms that a single-player Gwent game tentatively titled “Project Golden Nekker” is in development at  CD Project Red. It’s from the development team that brought us Gwent: The Witcher Card Game  and The Witcher Tales: Thronebreaker  series. However, Project Golden Nekker will be an entirely separate entity, according to Gwent Communications lead Paweł Burza.

“It’s not another Witcher Tales [game] but something different,” Burza said via IGN. “We’re aiming to provide a captivating single-player for players who prefer it over competitive multiplayer Gwent.”

CD Project Red didn’t give a release window for Project Golden Nekker, but the studio is confident it’ll come out this year. The timing couldn’t be better, with the wildly successful Witcher  series on Netflix  reaching its second season and a next-generation upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt  in the works.

Still no word on that enhanced edition of Cyberpunk 2077, but  it’s supposedly coming in 2022. Perhaps it’s not  best upcoming RPG  material, but any excuse to delve back into The Witcher’s  world is good enough for most fans.

Major Cyberpunk 2077 expansion is allegedly in development

PS5 and Xbox Series X|S ports are coming soon too.

CD Projekt Red is allegedly gearing up for a Cyberpunk 2077  expansion.

According to Axios  reporter Stephen Totilo, there’s a lot of staff hiring at CD Projekt Red for unannounced titles. One of them is allegedly an expansion to the company’s futuristic open-world action RPG.

“[CD Projekt Red] says it is ‘expanding teams responsible for developing a major expansion for Cyberpunk‘ and other unannounced projects,” Totilo said  on Twitter. “And if you were wondering why there seemed to be more [CD Projekt Red] news making the rounds in recent days, one reason is they’re reporting quarterly results to investors [Monday].”

There are no details on what this expansion might entail just yet, though the company reaffirmed that the  PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Cyberpunk 2077  will come out early in 2022.

Despite Cyberpunk 2077’s  infamous launch last year, there’s been a fair bit of positive buzz around the game as of late. During Steam’s Black Friday Autumn Sale, Cyberpunk 2077  became  the platform’s top-selling title. Adam Kiciński, the president and CEO of CD Projekt Red, also recently said he believes  everyone will think Cyberpunk 2077  is a good game eventually

Hard to say if that latter sentiment will blossom into reality, though if the studio commits to updating and fixing Cyberpunk 2077, it just might.

Witcher 3 studio is not for sale, insists president Adam Kiciński

CD Projekt Red will remain independent.

CD Projekt Red is not up for sale, according to president and CEO Adam Kiciński.

During an interview with Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita, Kiciński addressed whether CD Projekt Red is seeking investors or additional publishing options. The fine folks over at Video Games Chronicle (VGC) translated bits of the talk.

“We have been saying for years that we plan to remain independent and do not plan to become part of a larger entity,” Kiciński said  via VGC. “We are also not looking for a strategic investor.”

It’s pretty rare for a studio of CD Projekt Red’s stature to be independent, especially since they helm AAA titles like  The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt  and  Cyberpunk 2077. One of the few others is Valve Software, which recently  had to delay the highly-anticipated Steam Deck.

CD Projekt Red recently bought out a few studios of its own, including The Molasses flood and Digital Scape. The former got a rename to CD Projekt Red Vancouver, even.

“As part of our strategy update, we announced more activity in the mergers and acquisitions area, which we confirmed in recent months with two transactions,” Kiciński said  via VGC. “We do not rule out more such transactions in the future. The purpose of our acquisitions is to strengthen our development teams and gain additional support in implementing our strategy.”

The next big titles for CD Projekt Red are The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen ports,  though the latter is a long way off.

‘Cyberpunk 2077 will be perceived as a very good game’ says CD Projekt president

Adam Kiciński has high expectations on public perception of the RPG.

Adam Kiciński, the president and CEO of CD Projekt Red, believes Cyberpunk 2077  will win people over eventually.

In an interview with Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita, Kiciński explains that Cyberpunk 2077  was the most ambitious title in the studio’s nearly three-decade-long history. That ambition led to many complications that were plain as day to see at launch, yet  Cyberpunk 2077  went on to sell well despite its myriad of issuesVideo Games Chronicle (VGC) was able to translate bits of the interview.

“We believe that in the long run Cyberpunk 2077  will be perceived as a very good game,” Kiciński said  via VGC. “Like our other titles, it will sell for years – especially as the hardware gets more powerful over time and we improve the game.”

It might sound laughable considering how universally despised Cyberpunk 2077  was a launch but considering it’s up for Best RPG at The Game Awards, Kiciński might be onto something.

Kiciński goes on to mention  next-gen versions  that CD Projekt Red is working on for Cyberpunk 2077,  even though those aren’t coming until 2022.

“The decision to postpone the next-gen version of Cyberpunk was a difficult one, but we are confident that it was the right one,” Kiciński continues via VGC. “Especially since it was clearly recommended by our development team.”

Considering the reception to both the  GTA Trilogy  and  Battlefield 2042  respective launches, delaying the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S ports was likely the right call.

Cyberpunk 2077 is Steam’s top-selling game thanks to Black Friday sale

CD Projekt Red’s much-maligned RPG tops the sales charts.

Black Friday discounts have led to Cyberpunk 2077  being Steam’s best-selling game.

The Steam Autumn Sale is  going on right now, where over a thousand games are getting massive price cuts. Among them is the much-maligned RPG Cyberpunk 2077, that’s remarkably now the platform’s best-selling title thanks to a meaty 50% discount.

Despite the launch backlash and  frequent patch delays, it seems people are willing to give CD Projekt Red’s latest a shot. At only $29.99, Cyberpunk 2077  might be worth trying out, especially since the  next-gen updates are still a long way off. Remember that no matter what a critic or fan says, the only real way to form an opinion on a game is to try it out for yourself.

Cyberpunk 2077  is 50% off on several other storefronts right now as well.

While the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 is by no means perfect, it’s vastly superior to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. At least in terms of performance, that and there are considerably fewer glitches. A beefy PC should give you a decent experience, if nothing else.

CD Projekt Red delays all ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ updates to 2022

Development is in a Cyberfunk.

All improvements, bug fixes, content updates, and free DLC for Cyberpunk 2077  are delayed to 2022.

According to an update to Cyberpunk 2077’s  official development roadmap on Thursday, everything CD Projekt Red planned to release in 2021 for the game is now coming out in 2022. Before this, an Aug. 18 note on the roadmap stated that multiple improvements and DLC for Cyberpunk 2077’s  would be coming out this year for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Well, that’s certainly not the case anymore! It seems development is in a cyberfunk by this point.

Check out the updated roadmap for Cyberpunk 2077  for yourself below.

CD Projekt Red is likely taking its time across the board, as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt  aren’t coming out soon anymore either. The studio has  hinted that delays were coming for a bit now, though.

The studio has yet to comment on the roadmap change, but we will update you as the story develops.
