Studs and duds in the Cardinals’ Week 6 Loss to the Seahawks

There weren’t any standout performances on offense, but the defense came to play and continues to impress.

Sunday was a miserable performance put on by the Arizona Cardinals offense. The team had the chance to get back to 3-3 prior to the return of DeAndre Hopkins, but fell flat on their face and are now last place in the division.

On the bright side, the Cardinals defense was excellent once again. There were standout performances from a number of young defenders, which we’ll get into.

The Cardinals have an immediate turnaround at home against the Saints on Thursday Night Football in four days.

Who stood out and who disappointed in the loss? Below are our Week 6 studs and duds.

The Arizona Cardinals have a quick turnaround after their Week 6 game against the Seattle Seahawks. They will play Thursday night against the New Orleans Saints. They will get back receiver DeAndre Hopkins from his six-game suspension but they might be without receiver Marquise Brown.

Brown was injured in the final minutes of the Cardinals’ loss to the Seahawks.

On a fourth-down pass that was intercepted by cornerback Tariq Woolen, Woolen fell down on Brown’s left leg.

Brown had to be helped off the field. It is a foot injury.

He had five catches for 68 yards in the game Sunday afternoon.

WATCH: Rookie Cameron Thomas gets 1st career sack

Thomas’ first career sack forced the Seahawks to kick a field goal on their first drive.

Arizona Cardinals rookie outside linebacker Cameron Thomas now has an NFL sack. After getting limited playing time in the first five weeks of the season, he came up with a big sack in the first quarter against the Seattle Seahawks.

With the Seahawks driving in the first quarter and in field goal range, Thomas completely overpowers rookie right tackle Abe Lucas and sacks quarterback Geno Smith on third down for a loss of six yards and ending the Seattle threat. They ended he drive with a 39-yard field goal to tie the game at three.

Here is the play:

It is the first of what hopefully are many, many sacks in his career for the Cardinals and the first of several this season.

He was selected 87th overall in the 2022 draft and was the Cardinals’ first third-round pick.

He appears to be set for a bigger role on defense now that Devon Kennard was released on Saturday.

A sack in the first quarter is a great way to start.

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”sj3ZZwsdWa-2295436-7498″]

The Arizona Cardinals will be without their starting center for the second week in a row. Rodney Hudson, questionable to play in Week 6 with a knee injury that also kept him out of last week’s game, is among the Cardinals’ inactive players. The hope is that he will be good to go Thursday night when they host the New Orleans Saints.

Other than Hudson, the inactive list has no surprises.

Cardinals Week 6 inactive list

  • K Matt Prater
  • QB Trace McSorley
  • C Rodney Hudson
  • CB Trayvon Mullen
  • RB James Conner
  • RB Darrel Williams
  • OL Lecitus Smith

Mullen, Conner and Williams were all ruled out with injuries. With no Conner or Williams, Eno Benjamin will get the start and rookie Keaontay Ingram is active for the first time in his career and will play.

Veteran running back Corey Clement was signed to the practice squad earlier in the week and elevated to the active roster Saturday. He will also play, although we will see if he does more than special teams.

McSorley is inactive for the first time this season with the return of Colt McCoy from injured reserve.

Sean Harlow will start at center for the Cardinals.

Cornerback Byron Murphy, listed on the final injury report as questionable with a groin injury, is active and will play.

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”sj3ZZwsdWa-2295436-7498″]

The Arizona Cardinals have a big game on the road against a division foe in Week 6. They take on the Seattle Seahawks. Both teams are 2-3.

A simulation of the divisional matchup on Madden NFL 23 had the Cardinals winning big. Kyler Murray three four touchdown passes, rookie running back Keaontay Ingram rushed for two touchdowns and the defense intercepted Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith twice, en route to a 45-17 victory.

Things started off with a Marco Wilson interception on the Seahawks’ first drive. The Cardinals settled on a field goal from Matt Ammendola to take a 3-0 lead.

The Seahawks tied it with a 57-yard field goal.

On the Cardinals’ next drive, Murray threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Marquise Brown and then the defense forced Seattle to punt.

The Cardinals went down and scored on a nine-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Green, but the extra point was blocked and the Seahawks responded with a five-yard touchdown run from rookie Ken Walker.

The Cardinals got into field goal range and Murray was picked off by Sidney Jones. The Seahawks answered with Walker’s second touchdown of the game, a one-yard run, and took the lead.

Those were the last points they scored.

After forcing the Cardinals to punt, they missed a 45-yard field goal and, two plays later, Murray connected with Greg Dortch for a 39-yard touchdown to make it 23-17.

After halftime, the Cardinals scored on their first drive, with Murray throwing his fourth touchdown pass of the game, a 17-yarder to Brown. Murray ran in the two-point conversion to make it 31-17.

Seattle got into field-goal range but went for it on fourth down and the Cardinals stopped them.

They made it 38-17 with a two-yard touchdown run from Keaontay Ingram.

Both teams turned it over on downs on their next possessions and then the Seahawks turned it over on an interception by Antonio Hamilton.

Ingram scored for the second time on a three-yard run.

The Seahawks turned the ball over on downs and the Cardinals ran out the clock.

Murray was 25-for-38 passing for 323 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. Geno Smith was 21-for-40 passing for 241 yards and two picks.

Ingram was the Cardinals’ leading rusher with 52 yards and two scored on 13 carries. Eno Benjamin rushed six times for 25 yards.

Ken Walker had 39 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries for the Seahawks.

Arizona’s defense held Tyler Lockett to two catches for 21 yards and DK Metcalf to three for 44. Tight end Noah Fant led the Seahawks with nine catches for 92 yards and Marquise Goodwin had seven for 95.

Zach Ertz had seven receptions for 74 yards, Brown had six for 80 and two scores. Rondale Moore had four for 33, Dortch had three for 77 and the touchdown and Green had three for 44 and a score.

Zach Allen and J.J. Watt each had a sack for the Cardinals.

How to watch, stream, listen to Cardinals-Seahawks in Week 6

Here is all the information you need to watch or listen to the Arizona Cardinals-Seattle Seahawks Week 6 matchup.

[sendtonews_embed video_id=”sj3ZZwsdWa-2295436-7498″]

The Arizona Cardinals face the Seattle Seahawks for the first of two games within four weeks Sunday afternoon on the road. Both teams enter Week 6 at 2-3 and lost their Week 5 game.

The Cardinals have struggled offensively early in games, failing to score in the first quarter in all five games this season. After six quarters of terrible play, the defense has been solid.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks have been rolling offensively with Geno Smith at quarterback, who is a full-time starter for the first time since 2014. He leads the NFL in completion percentage and passer rating, but the Seahawks’ defense is awful, allowing the second-most points in the league and the most yards.

Cardinals-Seahawks games tend to be weird.

Are you planning on watching or listening to the game?

Kickoff for Cardinals’ game vs. Seahawks remains unchanged

The Mariners were eliminated in the ALDS. There did not end up being a Game 4 to push the Cardinals’ game back at all.

The Arizona Cardinals arrived in Seattle with a little uncertainty. Kickoff for their Week 6 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks was originally scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Arizona time but could be delayed almost 90 minutes, depending on the playoff series in Major League Baseball between the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners.

If that series were to need a fourth game, it would have pushed the football game back to 2:30 p.m. Arizona time.

However, the Mariners lost to the Astros 1-0 in 18 innings Saturday night and were eliminated from the postseason, meaning the original kickoff time of 1:05 p.m. Arizona time will go unchanged.
