CB Starling Thomas injured in Cardinals’ loss to Rams

He suffered an ankle injury and was not able to return in the Cardinals’ loss to the Rams on Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals started three rookie cornerbacks on Sunday in their 37-14 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams. One of them got hurt.

Starling Thomas suffered an ankle injury and was unable to return. He was ruled out immediately, which suggests some level of severity.

He played 40 snaps on Sunday and finished with three tackles.

Gannon only mentioned Thomas’ injury postgame, saying they came out “pretty clean.”

However, there are some players to watch for as the first injury report of Week 13 comes out on Wednesday.

Running back James Conner barely played in the second half and did not play toward the end of the game. He played only 30 snaps of the team’s 71 and had seven rushing attempts.

Left guard Carter O’Donnell was replaced by Trystan Colon in the second half.

Rookie linebacker Owen Pappoe got his first four NFL snaps. It might have been just because of the blowout or it was Krys Barnes got hurt late.

Rams 37, Cardinals 14: Takeaways in the blowout loss

There wasn’t much to like in the Cardinals’ loss to the Rams on Sunday.

Rams’ Kyren WIlliams is a Cardinals killer

Williams had over 200 total yards on Sunday and racked up over 360 in two games against the Cardinals this season.

The Arizona Cardinals have given up big games to a few players this season. However, thus far, the biggest Cardinals killer has been Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams.

In the Cardinals’ 37-14 loss to the Rams at home on Sunday, Williams was the player of the game.

He had 16 rushing attempts for 143 yards. He caught six passes for 61 yards and two touchdowns. In all, it was 204 total yards from scrimmage and two scores.

It was his first game back from injured reserve.

The last game he played, it was also against the Cardinals in Week 6.

After only having three yards at halftime, he finished with 20 carries for 158 yards and a touchdown. He didn’t even finish the game because he hurt his ankle, which caused him to miss the next four contests.

In two games, Williams 301 rushing yards, 362 total yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 8.6 yards per touch. 359 of those yards came after the first half of the first matchup.

Williams is just in his second year. He could end up being a problem for the Cardinals for a long time.

Rams 37, Cardinals 14: Highlights from the Week 12 blowout loss

The highlights were most from the Rams, but check out the full highlights from the Cardinals’ loss on Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals lost for the 10th time this season on Sunday. It wasn’t pretty. It was a 37-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Cardinals had a great first drive on offense but did little else after that.

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford threw four touchdown passes. Running back Kyren Williams had more than 200 total yards from scrimmage and scored twice. Tight end Tyler Higbee scored twice after not scoring before this week.

For the Cardinals, Kyler Murray did throw a touchdown pass and rushed for a score for the third straight game, and safety Jalen Thompson had an interception for the second straight week.

Most of the highlights come from the Rams, but you can watch all of them below.

Marco Wilson, Keaontay Ingram latest Cardinals to get benched

Marco Wilson did not log a single snap on defense against the Rams after starting all 11 games before Week 12.

The Arizona Cardinals have made a few moves in the starting lineup this season. Rookie cornerback Kei’Trel Clark was benched earlier this season. Before he got hurt, left guard Elijah Wilkinson was benched in favor of Trystan Colon. Offensive lineman Dennis Daley isn’t active on game days recently.

The latest to see their spot in the playing rotation disappear were cornerback Marco Wilson and running back Keaontay Ingram.

Wilson, who started the first 11 games of the season, not only was not a starter on Sunday in the Cardinals’ 37-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, he did not log a single snap on defense. Instead, three rookies — Clark, Garrett Williams and Starling Thomas — were in the starting lineup.

And when Thomas injured his ankle and was not able to return, Marco was not the Wilson to replace him. Instead, it was practice squader Divaad Wilson, who was elevated on Saturday for the game.

Ingram was not even active with the return of Emari Demercado. He has fallen behind Demercado and newly added Michael Carter.

Where do both currently stand?

“They’ll both be battling to play,” said head coach Jonathan Gannon after the game.

Rams 37, Cardinals 14: Matthew Stafford, Kyren Williams torch Arizona defense

Outside of their first offensive drive, the Cardinals couldn’t much of anything well in a 37-14 blowout loss to the Rams.

The Arizona Cardinals had a bad Sunday afternoon in Week 12. They were blown out 37-14 by the Los Angeles Rams, dropping them to 2-10 on the season.

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford threw four touchdown passes, running back Kyren Williams had 204 total yards from scrimmage and a pair of scores.

Los Angeles had 457 yards of offense.

The Cardinals managed only 292 yards for the game and Kyler Murray had a passing touchdown and rushing touchdown, but their final score and many of their yards came in garbage time.

The sad recap of the game is below.

First-half struggles put Cardinals in 21-8 hole vs. Rams

Arizona allowed the Rams to score 21 on 287 yards in the first half on Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals struggled in the first half defensively for the second consecutive week. After the Houston Texans scored 21 points and gained more than 300 yards in the first half against the Cardinals in Week 11, the Rams nearly repeated that.

They scored 21 points on 287 yards of offense. They could have had more points, but Lucas Havrisik missed a 50-yard field goal and Matthew Stafford threw an interception in field-goal range at the end of the first half.

Stafford threw three touchdown passes on 19-of-24 passing for 193 yards in the half. Playing for the first time since he faced the Cardinals in Week 6, running back Kyren Williams rushed for 64 yards on 10 carries and caught four passes for 56 yards and a touchdown in 30 minutes of play.

Receiver Tutu Atwell added three catches for 76 yards, while the Rams were 3-for-6 on third down.

The struggles were not limited to the defense. After a 75-yard touchdown drive on their first possession, the Cardinals gained 27 yards the rest of the half. Murray, after completing 5-of-7 passes for 50 yards during the first drive, was 3-for-10 for 16 yards after that. James Conner had 24 yards at halftime, but only three came after they scored.

They turned the ball over on downs once and had a 57-yard field goal made at the end of the half taken off the board because of a penalty.
