Carter O’Donnell is surprise starter at LG for Cardinals

O’Donnell became the Cardinals’ fourth different starter at left guard this season.

The Arizona Cardinals started their game on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons with a new starting left guard. With Elijah Wilkinson on injured reserve and Trystan Colon ruled out for the second straight game with a calf injury, Dennis Daley was expected to get the start.

He didn’t.

It was Carter O’Donnell, who became the fourth player to start at left guard for Arizona.

O’Donnell had not even dressed for a game for the Cardinals until last week.

He finished the game at right guard when Will Hernandez exited with a knee injury.

He was even questionable to play this week. He suffered an ankle injury in practice.

Last week was his first NFL game and his start against the Falcons was the first of his career.

The Cardinals acquired O’Donnell via a waiver claim before the season began.

So far this season, Elijah Wilkinson started six games at left guard. Trystan Colon started two and Daley one before O’Donnell started on Sunday.

Slot cornerback Dee Alford (ankle) and starting receiver Mack Hollins (ankle) had previously been ruled out.

Here were Atlanta’s inactive players:

‘Madden’ sim predicts Falcons blow out Cardinals in Kyler Murray’s return

The Falcons win 31-10 in Madden’s simulation of the Cardinals’ Week 10 matchup against the Falcons.

The Arizona Cardinals face the Atlanta Falcons and it is the return of quarterback Kyler Murray. While some believe that will bring a boost to the offense and make them more competitive, a simulation of the Week 10 matchup on Madden NFL 24 says something different.

In the simulation, the Falcons blow the Cardinals out 31-10. Falcons running back Bijan Robinson rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns and quarterback Taylor Heinicke had two touchdown passes and only two incompletions.

The Cardinals mustered only a first-quarter field goal and a James Conner one-yard touchdown run to start the second half and that was it.

Murray was not bad. He had 205 passing yards on 20-of-28 attempts. He also rushed for 25 yards.

Heinicke completed 20-of-22 passes for 216 yards and two scores, one to Drake London on their first drive from eight yards out and then a one-yard touchdown pass to tight end Kyle Pitts.
