Bills final injury report: Backup DE Dawuane Smoot added on Friday

Check out which Buffalo Bills won’t play and who might not in Week 1 against the Cardinals.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has no injury designation, so he appears set to be Josh Allen’s backup in the game when they face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. However, backup defensive end Dawuane Smoot was added to the report on Friday because of a toe injury.

The details of the Bills’ final injury report are below.

Buffalo Bills Week 1 final injury report game designations

Ruled out

DE Javon Solomon (oblique)

Solomon did not participate in practice for the Bills all week.

Questionable

DE Dawuane Smoot (toe)

The Bills could be shorthanded at end if Smoot, who was added to the report and did not practice Friday, is unable to play and with Solomon already declared out.

That leaves only backups Von Miller and Casey Touhill on the edge. It’s possible the Bills could elevate either Kameron Cline or Kingsley Jonathan from the practice squad.

Smoot was signed in May after becoming a Jaguars unrestricted free agent in March. Although he had only one sack last season, in the previous four in Jacksonville, he totaled 22.5 sacks and 24 tackles for loss.

No injury designation

S Cole Bishop (shoulder), TE Quintin Morris (shoulder), WR Curtis Samuel (toe), QB Mitchell Trubisky (knee)

Trubisky was limited on Wednesday, but then practiced fully the next two days. Samuel had full participation all week.

Cardinals final injury report: WR Xavier Weaver rookie debut delayed

Check out the final game designations for the Arizona Cardinals against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1.

It’s no surprise that undrafted free agent rookie wide receiver Xavier Weaver was declared out for the Arizona Cardinals’ Week 1 game Sunday in Buffalo against the Bills. He did not participate in practice all week.

The details of the Cardinals’ final injury report are below.

Arizona Cardinals Week 1 final injury report game designations

Ruled out

WR Xavier Weaver (oblique)

Weaver was expected to contribute in the kick return game, so that role could be handled by running back DeeJay Dallas and/or wide receiver Greg Dortch.

Two players have to be deep on kickoff returns. We’ll see if Dortch or Dallas is the main punt returner.

Questionable

S Joey Blount (back), TE Tip Reiman (ankle)

Blount, a standout on special teams, did not practice Thursday after experiencing the back issue in practice Wednesday. He was back on the field Friday, but was limited.

Reiman, slated to be used significantly as a blocker in the run game, was limited in practice all week. If he is inactive or limited in the game, Travis Vokolek would play mostly as a blocker.

Undrafted rookie WR unlikely to make NFL debut vs. Bills

Rookie receiver Xavier Weaver unlikely to play with an oblique that has kept him from practicing so far this week.

The final injury report will come out later on Friday, but one Arizona Cardinals rookie on the active roster is not expected to play in their season opener on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon said that undrafted rookie receiver Xavier Weaver, who missed Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s practices with an oblique injury, will likely be unavailable.

That means his NFL debut will have to wait at least a week.

Weaver made an impact in the offseason, training camp and the preseason, especially as a kick returner. As the Cardinals’ priority undrafted rookie free agent, he was one of six receivers to make the active roster.

The Cardinals and Bills kick off from Highmark Stadium on Sunday at 10 a.m. Arizona time.

Cardinals injury report: Only two rookies are listed in 1st report of year

Check out the details of the Cardinals’ first injury report of the season on Wednesday.

Although the Arizona Cardinals enter the season with six players on the injured reserve list, including expected starters edge rusher BJ Ojulari and defensive lineman Darius Robinson, the first injury report of the regular season on Wednesday was razor thin.

Only one player missed practice and one was limited. It’s important to note that reporting rules are based on 100 percent of normal reps in team drills. The details are below.

WR Xavier Weaver (oblique)

The rookie undrafted free agent also did not practice Monday and it’s believed the injury occurred during practice last week. Weaver was working on the side during Wednesday’s practice.

The rookie third-round pick was also not practicing last week, but no specific injury was revealed. Now we know it’s an ankle. On Monday, Reiman participated in stretching, but then worked on the side in the portion of practice (first 20 minutes) open to the media.
