Bengals 34, Cardinals 20: Joe Burrow leads Bengals out of offensive rut with 3 TD passes

The Bengals offense awoke against the Cardinals in a 34-20 win.

The Cincinnati Bengals came into Arizona in Week 5 to face the Cardinals struggling. They had one of the worst offenses in the NFL. With quarterback Joe Burrow apparently fully healthy of the calf issue he had been dealing with, he led the Bengals to an offensive breakout.

He threw three touchdown passes, all to receiver Ja’Marr Chase, and surpassed 300 passing yards for the first time all season. Meanwhile, Cardinals quarterback Josh Dobbs turned the ball over three times, throwing two interceptions, one which was returned for a touchdown.

Cincinnati looked like the team they were expected to be this season, beating Arizona 34-20.

They improve to 2-3 and send Arizona to their second straight losses, dropping them to 1-4 on the season.

WATCH: 6th-round rookie Dante Stills gets 1st NFL sack

Stills’ sack of Joe Burrow in the first half forced the Bengals to punt.

The Arizona Cardinals have had to lean on their rookie class this season and it is paying off. The latest rookie contributor was defensive lineman Dante Stills, selected in the sixth round of the 2023 draft.

Stills, getting extended playing time because of injuries to L.J. Collier, Carlos Watkins and Jonathan Ledbetter, picked up his first NFL sack against the Cincinnati Bengals.

On third down, Stills stunted and went unblocked up the middle. He sacked Joe Burrow for an eight-yard loss, forcing a punt.

Stills had three tackles and the sack in the first half of play against the Bengals.

James Conner injures knee vs. Bengals

Conner left the game with a knee injury after an impressive 35-yard run.

The Arizona Cardinals took a 14-10 lead over the Cincinnati Bengals in the second quarter on Sunday but might have lost running back James Conner.

The team announced he suffered a knee injury and had a questionable return.

He was taken to the locker room after he had a 35-yard gain. He was upended ate the end of the play.

The Cardinals scored a touchdown on the drive with Emari Demercado finishing the drive in for Conner.

He had 46 yards on six carries before exiting the game.

Bengals inactives: WR Tee Higgins, CB Chidobe Awuzie out vs. Cardinals

The Bengals played the Cardinals without starting WR Tee Higgins or CB Chidobe Awuzie.

The Cincinnati Bengals entered Week 5 struggling and took on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5 at State Farm Stadium. They would have to do it without a pair of starters.

Receiver Tee Higgins, questionable to play with a rib injury, was on the team’s inactive list released 90 minutes before kickoff.

Also out was starting cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, who was questionable with a back injury that popped up during the week of practice.

Here are the Bengals’ inactive players.

With Higgins out, Kwamie Lassiter II, the son of the late Kwamie Lassiter, a very good safety for the Cardinals in the 90s, was elevated from the practice squad.

But it would give Tyler Boyd and rookie Andres Iosivas a greater role on offense.

With Awuzie out, rookie DJ Turner was expected to get the call. Cam Taylor-Britt, questionable for the game after suffering a concussion last week, was active and expected to start.

Davis-Gaither was ruled out with a knee injury and missed his second straight game.

Cardinals inactives: Will Hernandez, Josh Woods to play vs. Bengals

Will Hernandez, questionable to play, was good to go in Week 5. Josh Woods returned to the lineup after missing three games.

The Arizona Cardinals got a little healthier in Week 5. Linebacker Josh Woods, out of the lineup since Week 1 with an ankle injury, returned and was active against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Offensive lineman Will Hernandez, who was questionable for the game after missing some practice time with a back injury, also was good to go. Both players were active.

  • DL Jonathan Ledbetter

Knight, O’Donnell and Higgins were healthy scratches. O’Donnell and Higgins had not been active yet this season. Ledbetter missed his second straight game with a finger injury.

Ingram missed for the second straight game with a neck problem. Corey Clement was elevated to the active roster to replace him. Ben Stille was elevated to play on the defensive line with Ledbetter out.

Cornerback Starling Thomas was active for the first time this season.

Bengals blow out Cardinals 35-3 in ‘Madden’ simulation of Week 5 matchup

Madden predicts a Bengals blowout win over the Cardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals host the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5 and the belief is that they could upset a struggling Cincinnati team. Cardinals fans also know that it could be the game where Joe Burrow and the Bengals, expected to be Super Bowl contenders, turn things around and get right.

In a “Madden NFL 24” simulation of the game, everything went wrong for the Cardinals and the Bengals rolled to a 35-3 win.

Burrow threw four touchdown passes, three to Ja’Marr Chase. The Cardinals had only 149 yards of offense, and quarterback Josh Dobbs, who was sacked twice, had only 79 passing yards and was picked off twice.

Dobbs was picked off on the first drive of the game by Dax Hill, setting up a nine-yard touchdown pass from Burrow to Chase.

The Cardinals answered with their only good drive of the game. They went the length of the field but were stopped at the one. Matt Prater kicked a 19-yard field goal.

Burrow and Chase connected for an 11-yard touchdown to make it 14-3 and that was the extent of the scoring in the first half.

The Bengals got the ball after halftime and Burrow threw a four-yard touchdown pass to tight end Irv Smith

Chase Brown added a three-yard rushing touchdown and, after Dobbs was picked off by rookie cornerback DJ Turner, Burrow threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game, the third to Chase.

It was 35-3 for the final score.

Burrow had more touchdown passes than completions, going 26-for-29 passing for 263 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Joe Mixon had 73 yards on 18 rushes. Chase had seven receptions for 58 yards and three scores. Tyler Boyd caught six passes for 61 and rookie receiver Andre Iosivas, getting playing time in place of Tee Higgins, caught four of 45.

For Arizona, James Conner rushed fro 43 yards and Hollywood Brown led with two catches for 25 yards. They gave up four sacks and did not sack Burrow in the game.

Bengals WR Tee Higgins to miss game vs. Cardinals

Higgins was questionable for the game with a rib injury. He will not play in Week 5.

Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins insisted during the week that he would play in Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals, despite a rib injury. That will not be the case.

According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Bengals have ruled out Higgins.

He was officially questionable for the game after missing practice Wednesday and Thursday and getting only limited reps in Friday’s practice.

The Bengals elevated receiver Kwamie Lassiter II from the practice squad for the game.

Higgins suffered the rib injury last week in the team’s 27-3 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Through four games this season, Higgins only has 12 catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns.

The Cardinals and Bengals kick off Sunday afternoon at State Farm Stadium at 1:05 p.m. Arizona time.
