Kyler Murray, Colt McCoy both dealing with injuries

The Cardinals are hopeful one of the two will be able to make the start at quarterback against the 49ers.

The Arizona Cardinals have two quarterbacks who are dealing with injuries that could keep them out of their Week 11 game against the San Francisco 49ers Monday night in Mexico City. They hope and believe that one of them will be healthy enough to start.

“I’m hoping at least one of them (can play),” Kingsbury said Wednesday. “I think we should be able to get to that point hopefully by later in the week.”

Both players were listed as questionable on the Cardinals’ first injury report of the week on Thursday when they practiced with pads.

The Cardinals feel confident in McCoy if he has to start. The Cardinals beat the 49ers last season with McCoy playing and are 3-1 in four starts for McCoy over the last two seasons.

On Wednesday, Murray said he felt good but “we’ll see” if he will be able to play.

Murray tweaked his hamstring against the Vikings, aggravated it further against the Seahawks and missed last week’s game against the Rams.

McCoy injured his knee in his start against the Rams. He exited the game for two snaps but did return to finish the game.

Marquise Brown planned on return from IR in 4 weeks, has a chance of playing vs. 49ers

Brown is taking his return to play in a game day by day but promised the team he would only be on IR four weeks.

The Arizona Cardinals might be getting back a top pass-catching weapon in Week 11. Wide receiver Marquise Brown was designated to return from injured reserve this week, allowing him to practice and be reinstated to the active roster within 21 days.

He potentially could be activated to play Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers.

“There’s a chance,” Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury said Wednesday. He needed to see what Brown was able to do in full pads in practice on Thursday.

Brown, speaking to reporters on Thursday, took the same cautious approach with the possibility of playing.

“I’m just taking it one day at a time,” he said. “However I’m feeling each day, that’s how we’re going to take it. That’s how we’re going to approach it moving forward.”

He said there is a balance of wanting to come back but not doing it too quickly, getting used to being on the field, making sure his feet feel good and that his conditioning is right.

That said, while initial reports were than he would miss six weeks or more, he knew his stint on injured reserve would be minimal.

“I told them when I was hurt, when they put me on IR, I’d be back in four weeks,” he said.

He was true to his word. He was designated to return after the minimum four games he must miss. Now it is a matter of being ready for football. He is back on the practice field.

It would be a big boost to get him on the field to face a talented 49ers defense.

Kyler Murray originally tweaked hamstring vs. Vikings

Murray’s first hamstring issues happened against the Vikings.

The Arizona Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Rams this past Sunday without starting quarterback Kyler Murray, who was out with a hamstring injury. While it was believed that he sustained the injury early in the Cardinals’ Week 9 game against the Seattle Seahawks, Murray said it actually happened earlier.

“I tweaked it the week before and played through it but once it kind of happened the next week I kind of knew it was probably best for me to let it rest,” he told reporters Wednesday.

This actually makes more sense, based on what we saw in the first episode of “Hard Knocks.” Murray told a trainer he felt “his (expletive)” after a run and the trainer immediately asked about the hamstring.

The injury did not show up on the injury report in Week 9, but it wouldn’t have likely affected his practice reps. After the Seahawks game, he was limited in his reps, so it showed up then.

In the second episode of “Hard Knocks,” it showed Murray on the training table getting the hamstring treated. He had made progress.

He is in the same boat this week, although he did say Wednesday that he feels good.

We will see whether it is him or Colt McCoy who gets the start in Week 11 in Mexico City.

Injured 49ers nearing return, potentially could play vs. Cardinals

TE George Kittle and K Robbie Gould were designated for return from IR and could play Sunday. RB Jeff Wilson is coming off PUP.

The San Francisco 49ers have had to deal with a number of injuries but when they take on the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday afternoon at Levis Stadium, they could get some players back.

They have designated a few players for return from injured reserve and from the PUP list, allowing them to practice and potentially be reactivated before the 49ers play the Cardinals this weekend.

Tight end George Kittle, running back Jeff Wilson and kicker Robbie Gould all returned to practice for the first time since they went on IR/PUP. Kittle had a calf injury. He has a chance to return against the Cardinals. How he handled practice will go a long way to determining that.

Gould had a groin injury. Since the 49ers cut Joey Slye, it would appear that Gould is on track to returning and kicking on Sunday against Arizona.

Wilson was on PUP after a knee injury he suffered in May. His return will give a boost to a running back room that has suffered multiple injuries.
