James Conner, Marquise Brown day-to-day with injuries

The X-rays on Conner’s leg and Brown’s arm were negative. They have a chance of playing in the Cardinals’ season finale.

The Arizona Cardinals will begin their practice preparation for their season finale against the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday. They could be without their top runner and top receiver, at least to start the week.

Running back James Conner and receiver Marquise Brown are nursing injuries they suffered in the Cardinals’ 20-19 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Conner injured his shin in the game and Brown injured his arm.

While neither appears to be serious, it is unknown whether they will be able to play in the final game of the season.

Both are considered day-to-day, said Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury on Monday.

“(Conner) is day to day. That’s all I heard as of now,” he said. “It was nothing major, which is good. X-rays were negative, but we’ll see how he feels the next couple of days.”

As for Brown, “The same, is what I’ve been told. I haven’t heard anything new, but it wasn’t anything that showed up on the x-ray.”

The Cardinals will release their first injury report of the week Wednesday afternoon.

Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins expected to play Monday night vs. 49ers

Hopkins is expected to play Monday night for the Cardinals against the 49ers in Mexico City.

The Arizona Cardinals are set to take on the San Francisco 49ers Monday night in Mexico City. They are expected to be without quarterback Kyler Murray, who will miss his second straight game with a hamstring injury, and also receiver Marquise Brown, who is not quite ready to be activated from injured reserve.

However, receiver DeAndre Hopkins, officially questionable for the game with a hamstring injury, should play.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Hopkins “should be good to go.”

He reported that McCoy is expected to start and Hopkins will play.

Hopkins’ hamstring injury “maybe was cause for concern early in the week,” Rapoport said, but there was “much more optimism late in the week.”

Hopkins has already missed six games this season due to his suspension for testing positive for a banned performance-enhancing substance.

Kickoff for the game Monday night is 6:15 p.m. Arizona time. The Cardinals seek to pick up their fifth win of the season and have consecutive wins for the first time this season.

Colt McCoy expected to start at QB for Cardinals vs. 49ers

Kyler Murray is expected to miss the Monday night game against San Francisco.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is officially questionable for the team’s Week 11 game Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers with a hamstring injury. Signs point toward him missing a second straight game.

According to FOX Sports’ Peter Schrager, backup Colt McCoy is expected to get the start.

McCoy “is expected to be the guy right now as we speak on this Sunday morning,” Schrager said. “Kyler still has the hamstring injury. He’s questionable to play, but it sounds like right now the Cardinals in that building are leaning toward Colt to go Monday night in Mexico City against the 49ers.”

McCoy led the Cardinals to a 27-17 win over the Los Angeles Rams last week and is 3-1 as a starter the last two seasons, playing in place of Murray when he has been injured, including a 31-17 road win over the 49ers last season.

Report: Cardinals WR Marquise Brown will not play vs. 49ers

While Brown is eligible to be activated to play the 49ers, it appears he will wait until Week 12 when the Cardinals face the Chargers.

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise Brown is eligible to be activated from injured reserve to be able to play Monday night when the team faces the San Francisco 49ers.

He will not be, according to Jordan Schultz of the Score.

Per source, Brown is “feeling much better” and should be ready to go in Week 12 when the Cardinals host the Los Angeles Chargers.

He missed the last four games with a foot injury and was designated to return this past week so he could practice. Both Brown and coach Kliff Kingsbury used a wait-and-see approach to say whether he would be activated and play.

The foot injury was originally expected to keep him out six to eight weeks or more.

Brown has yet to play with DeAndre Hopkins. Brown played the six games Hopkins was suspended and then got hurt. Hopkins returned in  Week 7.

The Cardinals are eight-point underdogs against the 49ers Monday night. Kickoff is 8:15 p.m. ET at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

Cardinals LT D.J. Humphries to miss 2nd straight game with back injury

Josh Jones will get the start at left tackle to face the 49ers’ Nice Bosa and his 9.5 sacks.

The Arizona Cardinals will be without their starting left tackle in Week 11. They will have to face the San Francisco 49ers  and pass rusher Nick Bosa without D.J. Humphries.

Coach Kliff Kingsbury ruled Humphries out Friday when he spoke with reporters after practice, according to Darren Urban.

Humphries has not practiced yet this week with a back injury and it caused him to miss two games already. He missed the game in Week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings, returned in Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks and then missed last week’s matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.

It means Josh Jones will get another start at left tackle.

Humphries had not missed any games with an injury since 2018. He missed one game last season with COVID but now you have to wonder if the back will become a long-term issue.

Jones will be tasked with limiting the impact of Bosa, who has 9.5 sacks in eight games.

The Cardinals and 49ers face off Monday night in Mexico City with a 6:15 p.m. kickoff Arizona time.

Kyler Murray, Colt McCoy both dealing with injuries

The Cardinals are hopeful one of the two will be able to make the start at quarterback against the 49ers.

The Arizona Cardinals have two quarterbacks who are dealing with injuries that could keep them out of their Week 11 game against the San Francisco 49ers Monday night in Mexico City. They hope and believe that one of them will be healthy enough to start.

“I’m hoping at least one of them (can play),” Kingsbury said Wednesday. “I think we should be able to get to that point hopefully by later in the week.”

Both players were listed as questionable on the Cardinals’ first injury report of the week on Thursday when they practiced with pads.

The Cardinals feel confident in McCoy if he has to start. The Cardinals beat the 49ers last season with McCoy playing and are 3-1 in four starts for McCoy over the last two seasons.

On Wednesday, Murray said he felt good but “we’ll see” if he will be able to play.

Murray tweaked his hamstring against the Vikings, aggravated it further against the Seahawks and missed last week’s game against the Rams.

McCoy injured his knee in his start against the Rams. He exited the game for two snaps but did return to finish the game.

Marquise Brown planned on return from IR in 4 weeks, has a chance of playing vs. 49ers

Brown is taking his return to play in a game day by day but promised the team he would only be on IR four weeks.

The Arizona Cardinals might be getting back a top pass-catching weapon in Week 11. Wide receiver Marquise Brown was designated to return from injured reserve this week, allowing him to practice and be reinstated to the active roster within 21 days.

He potentially could be activated to play Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers.

“There’s a chance,” Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury said Wednesday. He needed to see what Brown was able to do in full pads in practice on Thursday.

Brown, speaking to reporters on Thursday, took the same cautious approach with the possibility of playing.

“I’m just taking it one day at a time,” he said. “However I’m feeling each day, that’s how we’re going to take it. That’s how we’re going to approach it moving forward.”

He said there is a balance of wanting to come back but not doing it too quickly, getting used to being on the field, making sure his feet feel good and that his conditioning is right.

That said, while initial reports were than he would miss six weeks or more, he knew his stint on injured reserve would be minimal.

“I told them when I was hurt, when they put me on IR, I’d be back in four weeks,” he said.

He was true to his word. He was designated to return after the minimum four games he must miss. Now it is a matter of being ready for football. He is back on the practice field.

It would be a big boost to get him on the field to face a talented 49ers defense.
