49ers vs. Cardinals injury report: Latest updates, news for Week 18

All the latest updates and news on the Cardinals’ injury report ahead of a Week 18 game vs. the 49ers

The Arizona Cardinals close out the season in Week 18 at home facing the San Francisco 49ers for the second time. The Cardinals won the first meeting in Week 5 in Santa Clara 24-23 on a last-minute field goal by kicker Chad Ryland, who was making his Cardinals debut.

The week 18 game kicks off Sunday ay 4:25 p.m. ET (2:25 p.m. Arizona time) from State Farm Stadium. The game will air on FOX.

The Cardinals and 49ers are both banged up. The 49ers will not have their starting quarterback, Brock Purdy, who has an elbow injury. So it will be former Cardinals quarterback Josh Dobbs who will get the start against Arizoma.

The Cardinals have injuries at tackle. With Paris Johnson, Jonah Williams and now Jonah Williams on injured reserve, Kelvin Beachum and rookie Christian Jones will start at tackle. Jones made his NFL debut last Saturday, playing nine offensive snaps.

James Conner injured same knee vs. Rams

Conner left the game against the Rams after taking a shot to the same knee he injured in Week 16.

Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner entered Week 17 with a knee injury and was questionable to play. He started against the Los Angeles Rams and had four rushes for only four yards before coming out and not returning.

It was the same knee.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon explained on Monday to reporters that Conner “took a shot in the same knee” and that is why he came out. He said everything was good for him to play.

The plan is the same this week. Gannon said they would “do what’s best for him and then what’s best for the team.” If Conner is healthy enough to play and it is good for the team that he does, he will.

But Gannon noted with the injuries that there were, calling them “bumps and bruises,” he would know more later in the week.

The Cardinals first injury report of the final week of the season will come out Wednesday afternoon.

Cardinals TE Trey McBride out of concussion protocol, will play Sunday vs. 49ers

The Cardinals will have Trey McBride back in the lineup on Sunday against the 49ers.

Things are “good to go” for Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon. McBride came out of concussion protocol and will be set to play on Sunday when the Cardinals face the San Francisco 49ers on the road.

McBride suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter of the Cardinals’ 20-13 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 3 and missed their game in Week 4, a 42-14 loss to the Washington Commanders. He was a full participant in practice on Thursday and made it through another day without symptoms.

McBride has 14 catches for 122 yards in three games this season.

The Cardinals and 49ers kick off from Levi’s Stadium Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Arizona time.

Where is Cardinals K Matt Prater?

The Cardinals signed a kicker to the practice squad and Prater was not at practice. What is going on?

Arizona Cardinals kicker Matt Prater was not on the field Wednesday morning for the portion of practice open to the media.

There were some raised eyebrows last Friday when the Cardinals had tryouts with kickers Anders Carlson and Chad Ryland, especially when Prater was not on the injury report that day and kicked in the game against the Commanders.

Is there an injury? Is it a personal issue that the team knew was coming when they had the tryouts on Friday?

The team announced Ryland was signed to the practice squad on Wednesday, adding intrigue.

We will learn something when the injury report is revealed later Wednesday.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon spoke to the media at 9:45 Wednesday morning, and the team announced the addition of Ryland a little less than an hour later, about 15 minutes before practice started.

Also not on the field were cornerback Garrett Williams and rookie guard Isaiah Adams.

Adams was added to the injury report this past Friday with a thumb injury and played two special teams snaps against Washington.

Confirming what Gannon told the media, tight end Trey McBride (concussion) and defensive lineman Khyiris Tonga (knee), who both did not play Sunday, were on the field as was rookie tackle Christian Jones, who has been designated for return from injured reserve.

Cardinals’ Marquise Brown, Michael Wilson expected to play vs. 49ers

The Cardinals will have all their top receivers available against the 49ers on Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals should have all their top receivers playing Sunday afternoon at home against the San Francisco 49ers. Receivers Marquise Brown and Michael Wilson, both listed officially as questionable to play, are expected to suit up, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Brown has had a nagging heel injury but has not missed any games with it. He was limited in practice for the final two days on Thursday and Friday. He previously played the last two games without any practice time.

Wilson has missed the last three games and four out of the last five with a shoulder injury.

Both had productive games in Week 4 against the 49ers on the road.

Brown had seven catches for 96 yard and Wilson caught seven passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns in the Cardinals’ 35-16 loss.

Kickoff between the Cardinals and 49ers from State Farm Stadium is at 2:05 p.m. Arizona time.
