Cardinals elevate CB to play vs. Jets in Week 10

For the second time in three weeks, Wilson gets elevated to the active roster.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a single roster move on Saturday to get ready for their Week 10 home game against the New York Jets. They elevated cornerback Divaad Wilson from the practice squad to the active roster.

Wilson was elevated once two weeks ago and played special teams in Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins.

The Cardinals cut defensive back Darren Hall this week when they acquired linebacker Baron Browning in a trade with the Denver Broncos. Hall played regularly on special teams.

It gives the Cardinals six cornerbacks to work with on Sunday.

Safety Jalen Thompson is questionable to play with an ankle injury, but with no move to add a safety, Thompson seems likely to be able to play.

The Cardinals and Jets kick off Sunday afternoon at 4:25 p.m. ET or 2:25 p.m. Arizona time.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa targeting Week 8 return vs. Cardinals

The Cardinals are slated to face the Dolphins in Week 8 and it could be the first game back for QB Tua Tagovailoa from IR.

The Arizona Cardinals face the Los Angeles Chargers Monday night in Week 7 but their next opponents are the Miami Dolphins, whom they will face in the road in Week 8.

The Dolphins are expecting a return for starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Dolphins plan on opening his practice window next week and, barring any setbacks, Tagovailoa will start for the first time since Week 2 against the Cardinals.

Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in Week 2, his third in his time in the NFL, and is on injured reserve.

Tagovailoa led the NFL with 4,624 passing yards in 2023 and threw 29 touchdown passes with 14 interceptions, leading the Dolphins to an 11-6 record and playoff appearance.

In two games this season, he has completed 64.5% of his passes for 483 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

The Cardinals and Dolphins kick off next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Cardinals inactives: Matt Prater out; Chad Ryland, Xavier Weaver in vs. Packers

Who is in and who is out for the Cardinals in Week 6 against the Packers?

The Arizona Cardinals are going with a backup kicker for the second straight week. They released their inactive list 90 minutes before their game on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

Kicker Matt Prater, questionable for the game with a left knee injury, was deactivated. That meant Chad Ryland, who made 3-of-4 field goals last week against the 49ers, including the game-winning 35-yard kick, would go again in Green Bay.

Here are the players that were inactive for the game for the Cardinals.

  • K Matt Prater
  • CB Darren Hall
  • LB Victor Dimukeje
  • LB Xavier Thomas
  • TE Travis Vokolek

Cornerback Garrett Williams returns to the lineup after a week off with a groin injury. For the second straight week, Thomas is inactive. Linebacker Jesse Luketa, who forced a key fumble last week, will get to play.

Rookie receiver Xavier Weaver is active for the first time this season and will make his NFL debut. He was the practice player of the week and wore the Pat Tillman No. 40 jersey all week in practice.

All their offensive linemen are active for this game, including Jon Gaines II, who is active for the second straight week. He made his 2024 debut last week after being the team’s practice player of the week and wearing the Tillman jersey all week leading up to the game.

Arizona Cardinals Wednesday practice report and observations

Some odds and ends as the Cardinals had their first practice of Week 6.

The Arizona Cardinals were back on the practice field Wednesday to begin preparations for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers and wide receiver Chris Moore was not on the field in the portion of work open to the media.

It was reported by Wednesday morning that he would be released, which we said was likely on Monday because of the return of wide receiver Zay Jones from his five-game suspension under the league’s personal conduct policy.

Jones was practicing and officially still has a roster exemption that expires next Monday (Oct. 14). But it can be lifted by Saturday to be able to play in Green Bay. The absence of Moore makes it a formality that the exemption will likely be lifted.

Defensive lineman Darius Robinson was officially designated for return from injured reserve and was on the field, but during individual drills, he only watched his fellow D-linemen. Today opens a 21-day period in which Robinson can practice before being activated, which can happen at any time before the 21 days ends.

Thursday marks seven weeks since Robinson was injured Aug. 22, so he hasn’t done anything football-related during the time. That would make it seem unrealistic that he could match the 30 percent of the snaps played Sunday against the 49ers by defensive linemen Khyiris Jones and Naquan Jones.

Tackle Kelvin Beachum participated in stretching, but was then on the side and not with the other offensive linemen doing individual work. He did not practice last Wednesday and was limited Thursday and Friday because of a hamstring issue, but played all 58 snaps at right tackle against the 49ers.

Both kicker Matt Prater (knee) and CB Garrett Williams (groin) were on the practice field, as was offensive lineman Austen Pleasants, who was re-signed to the practice squad following the signing of Charlie Heck to the active roster. Kicker Chad Ryland remains on the practice squad.

Rookie guard Isaiah Adams, who was inactive on Sunday with a thumb injury, was practicing in the open part.

Cardinals re-sign familiar face on defensive line

The Cardinals announced the signing of defensive lineman Ben Stille to the practice squad after three games with Tampa Bay.

The Arizona Cardinals, dealing with injuries on the defensive line, have added a player to the practice squad many will recognize. They announced the signing of Ben Stille to the practice squad on Thursday.

Stille spent last season between the practice squad and active roster and was with the team throughout the offseason and preseason.

He signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and appeared in three games before being released.

The Cardinals lost defensive lineman Justin Jones for the remainder of the season with a triceps tear and Khyiris Tonga missed last week’s game with a knee injury. Angelo Blackson was signed to the practice squad and elevated to play in Sunday’s game, but he got hurt and landed on the practice squad injured reserve.

He had eight tackles and a sack in five games for the Cardinals last year.

Officials hose the Cardinals with two-minute call on defensive touchdown

The Cardinals should have had a 14-13 lead but a would-be defensive touchdown was nullified.

The Arizona Cardinals trailed the Detroit Lions 20-10 at halftime, but the end of the half should have gone so much differently. The officials robbed the Cardinals of what should have been a defensive touchdown, giving them a 14-13 lead.

Safety Jalen Thompson blitzed off the edge, hit Jared Goff, forcing either a fumble or an errant throw. The ball landed in linebacker Mack Wilson’s arms and he was en route to the end zone for a touchdown.

However, the play was ruled dead. The officials said the ball was not snapped before the two-minute warning.

To everyone watching, that was not the case. Here is what was seen on TV:

https://twitter.com/Alex__Monaco/status/1837968704317149289

The ball was snapped at 2:01.

No play, no turnover, no touchdown.

Four plays later, Goff had a 21-yard touchdown pass, a nifty one-yard pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown, who then lateraled the ball to Jahmyr Gibbs, who then ran the rest of the 20 yards for the score.

As a result, the Lions took a 20-7 lead instead of the Cardinals having a 14-13 lead.
