Oviedo: 0-1, 3.60 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 5 K, 4 BB, 4 ER, 10 IP, 2 starts

  • The 22-year-old has allowed two earned runs over five innings in each of his first two MLB starts. He took a no-decision against the Chicago Cubs Aug. 19 and was charged with last Thursday’s loss against the Pittsburgh Pirates as the Cards fell 2-0.

Prediction

Cardinals 6, Reds 3

Moneyline (ML)

The CARDINALS (+135) took it to the Reds (-150) in a 16-2 victory Tuesday following a much-tighter 7-5 in Game 1 of the series.

Don’t expect it to be nearly as much of a landslide, but the Cardinals have a slight edge in the pitching matchup and clearly the hotter offense. They’re now 5-1 in the season series with their last four wins all coming by multiple runs.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Get the CARDINALS -1.5 (+190) on the alternate line after they won by 14 runs Tuesday. St. Louis tore through six Cincy relievers, including position player Matt Davidson, Tuesday while using only four of its own. The more rested bullpen will be key with neither starter likely to go 7-8 innings.

Over/Under (O/U)

Lean to the UNDER 10 (-110) following the Cardinals offensive display Tuesday. They’re still 13-12-2 against the Over/Under for the season and the Reds are 18-18. The O/U in the hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park is 12-6 this season, but expect a tighter, lower-scoring game than we saw Tuesday.

The St. Louis Cardinals (13-13) and Cincinnati Reds (15-20) play the second game of a three-game set at Great American Ballpark Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Cardinals-Reds MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Cardinals at Reds: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Kwang-Hyun Kim vs. RHP Sonny Gray

Kim: 1-0, 1.08 ERA, 0.900 WHIP, 7 K, 4 BB, 2 ER, 16 2/3 IP, 3 starts, one relief appearance

  • Completed six innings in each of his last two starts without an earned run allowed. He has given up just one homer on the year.
  • Recorded a save in his first outing of the year but has since moved to the rotation and will make a fourth consecutive start.

Gray: 5-1, 1.94 ERA, 1.008 WHIP, 55 K, 15 BB, 9 ER, 41 2/3 IP, 7 starts

  • Has a career-best 11.9 K/9 and a low 0.6 HR/9.
  • Pitched five scoreless frames against the Milwaukee Brewers last time out in a 6-1 win for the Reds.

Prediction

Reds 4, Cardinals 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Cardinals (+145) won 7-5 Monday and lead the season series 4-1 after taking three of four at Busch Stadium a couple of weeks ago. The REDS (-162) will bounce back Tuesday, however, with Gray making his eighth start of the season.

Cincinnati has lost three of its last four games but had previously won three straight. Gray held the Cards to two earned runs over six innings in a 5-4 Reds road loss Aug. 20. Look for the tides to turn in Cincinnati’s home park.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Double down on the REDS with the -1.5 (+125) run line. Should they win by 2 or more runs, a $10 bet will return a profit of $12.50.

They’re just 13-22 against the spread for the season but they’re in the strong half of their split against a left-handed starter. The Reds own a team OPS of .740 against lefties; the Cards have just a .719 mark against righties.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 8.5 (-110) in a strong starting pitching matchup with both hurlers likely to pitch deep into the game against uninspiring offenses.

Reds RHP Anthony DeSclafani gave up all seven runs the Cards scored Monday in a forgettable outing of just 3 2/3 innings. Gray is the right choice to get them back on track.
