The Flames have won two of the first three games in this set with Monday’s game being decided 4-3 in overtime. The two teams played a two-game set Jan. 16 and 18 in Calgary and the Flames won each of those by a combined 8-2 count.

Canucks at Flames: Projected starting goalies

Thatcher Demko (4-6-1, .895 SV%, 3.52 GAA) vs. Jacob Markstrom (8-4-1, .924 SV%, 2.38 GAA)

Demko played each of the first three games of this set and stopped 64 of 72 shots on goal. He took a loss against the Flames Jan. 18 by allowing 4 goals on 31 shots.

Markstrom has picked up right where he left off while backstopping the Canucks last season. He has two shutouts through 13 games and made 106 saves on 112 shots over the first three games of this series. He has been slightly worse at the Saddledome this season with a .912 SV% compared to a .932 mark on the road.

Canucks at Flames: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Canucks 3, Flames 1

Money line (ML)

The Flames lead the 2021 season series 4-1-0 over the Canucks. They’ve outscored their western Canadian rivals 16-9 through the five games; however, the Canucks have registered 58.37% of the 5-on-5 shot attempts and 55.20% of the scoring chances through the first three games of this four-game series.

Markstrom is clearly the better goaltender in this clash and is making the Canucks pay for allowing him to leave via free agency, but he hasn’t been quite his usual self in his new home arena.

Back the CANUCKS (+130) to get some revenge to close this set.

Against the spread (ATS)

The CANUCKS +1.5 (-200) can also be backed with one goal of insurance in the event of a loss.

Three of Calgary’s four wins in this head-to-head season series were decided by multi-goal margins in regulation, but the Canucks are 1-0-1 in the last two games and rushed out to a 2-0 first-period lead last time out.

Over/Under (O/U)

Bet the UNDER 6 (+100) with growing familiarity between one another and tired legs on both sides as they meet for the fourth time in seven days.

Three of the five meetings thus far this season played to the Under.

Vancouver Canucks at Calgary Flames odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Vancouver Canucks at Calgary Flames NHL betting odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Vancouver Canucks (1-2-0) and Calgary Flames (1-0-1) square off Monday for a 9 p.m. ET puck drop at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. Below, we analyze the Canucks-Flames NHL betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

  • Money line: Canucks +125 (bet $100 to win $125) | Flames -150 (bet $150 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Canucks +1.5 (-225) | Flames -1.5 (+180)
  • Over/Under: 6 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Canucks at Flames: Projected starting goalies

Thatcher Demko (0-1-0, .891 SV%, 5.01 GAA) vs. Jacob Markstrom (1-0-1, .939 SV%, 1.98 GAA)

Demko is expected to get the start against his former teammate Markstrom. He was dinged for five goals on 46 shots in a 5-2 road loss to the Edmonton Oilers Thursday.

Markstrom was allowed to walk in free agency, as the Canucks didn’t make a huge effort to bring him back with Demko waiting in the wings. He got his first crack against his former employer Saturday and he stopped all 32 shots he faced for his first shutout in a Flames sweater.

Canucks at Flames: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Flames 4, Canucks 2

Money line (ML)

The FLAMES (-150) are a good play with Markstrom playing with a chip on his shoulder. The Canucks are also a bit shorthanded, as D Quinn Hughes missed practice Sunday for an undisclosed reason, D Alexander Edler (leg) is a question mark after leaving after Matthew Tkachuk‘s skate accidentally cut his leg Saturday, and D Jordie Benn remains on the COVID-19 list.

F J.T. Miller returned from the COVID list and practiced, so that’s a positive for Vancouver, but the Canucks have a long way to go to get back to full health.

Against the spread (ATS)

Playing the FLAMES -1.5 (+180) is worth a roll of the dice, as you can nearly double up your investment. They blanked the Canucks in the first game of the two-game set. I expect Vancouver to be able to solve Markstrom, but he’ll still come out on top in the end.

Over/Under (O/U)

The projected total of 6 is too close to call. The Under hit in the first meeting, but I expect the total to be right on the number in the second battle.

That Under was a rarity, as the Over is 9-4 in the previous 13 in the series, and 19-8-4 in the past 31 meetings in Calgary.

AVOID.
