Report: Rockets hiring Cam Hodges from Clippers as assistant coach

Clippers coaching associate Cam Hodges is joining the #Rockets as an assistant, @MikeCWright reports. He previously worked alongside Ime Udoka with the 76ers and Spurs.

New Rockets head coach Ime Udoka continued his revamp of Houston’s coaching staff by hiring Cam Hodges from the Los Angeles Clippers, per Michael C. Wright of NBA.com.

Hodges worked with Udoka when both were assistants with the San Antonio Spurs (2017-19) and Philadelphia 76ers (2019-20). When Udoka left the 76ers for Brooklyn in the 2020 offseason, Hodges accepted a coaching associate role with the Clippers.

With the Spurs, Hodges worked for renowned shooting guru Chip Engelland. At the time, Engelland led San Antonio’s player-development program along with Will Hardy, who is now Utah’s head coach after working as one of Udoka’s top assistants in Boston.

Hodges played college basketball with Minnesota State. Following his collegiate career, Hodges played professionally in Romania, Hungary, Luxembourg, and Slovenia before making his transition into coaching, starting with the 2015-16 season.

Now 36 years old, Hodges is joining a staff of young and energetic assistants in Houston. Between Hodges, former Brooklyn assistant Royal Ivey, and the four assistants rumored to be on the way from Boston (Ben Sullivan, Mike Moser, Garrett Jackson and Aaron Miles), Ivey is the elder statesman at 41 years old.
