Arkansas needs overtime, but beats LSU in Baton Rouge for the first time six years

Arkansas beats LSU, 16-13, on overtime field goal by Cam Little.

A wild night in Death Valley ended the only way it could: overtime.

In a game filled with spectacular defense, spectacular individual offensive plays and a whole bunch of penalties, Arkansas beat LSU, 16-13.

It was the first Razorbacks win over LSU since 2015 and only the fourth in Baton Rouge since the Hogs joined the SEC in 1992.

Montaric Brown intercepted Garrett Nussmeier in the end zone to finish LSU’s overtime drive and Cam Little capped Arkansas’ with 37-yard field goal to provide the win.

Little made three field goals and KJ Jefferson found Dominique Johnson for a 44-yard touchdown pass to provide the Hogs scoring.

LSU outgained Arkansas, 308 yards to 281, but the biggest key was the turnovers. LSU had three. Arkansas didn’t have a single one.

The Razorbacks have reached seven regular-season wins for the first time since 2016.

Arkansas kicker Cam Little named SEC Freshman of the Week

Arkansas freshman kicker did something no one had done with Razorbacks since 1997.

For all the talk about kicking in Arkansas’ game against Mississippi State, most of it dealt with the Bulldogs.

Mississippi State coach Mike Leach said after Arkansas’ 31-28 victory on Saturday, a victory in which Bulldogs kickers went 0 for 3 on field goals, he would have an open tryout for kickers. Arkansas, on the other hand, had no such problem.

Freshman kicker Cam Little made three of his four attempts in the win, including one that tied the school record in distance for a freshman. Little’s makes from 46, 48 and 51 yards were enough to earn him SEC Freshman of the Week honors. He was the first Arkansas freshman since 1997 to have three good kicks from 40 yards or more.

Little has now won SEC Freshman of the Week twice this year. He also earned the honor in Week 4 when he made four attempts in Arkansas’ 20-10 win over Texas A&M.

On the season, the freshman from Oklahoma is 14 of 18 on attempts. The 14 makes are tied for second most in the SEC.

Heaven bless those Hogs: Arkansas gets miracle last-seconds win over Mississippi State

Dominique Johnson scored the go-ahead touchdown with 22 seconds left to lift Arkansas over Mississippi State.

A game that was always going to be close was, well, close.

Arkansas and Mississippi State, with identical 5-3 records this season and 8-10 records over the last two years, played expectedly tight on Saturday inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

But no one thought it would be like that.

The Razorbacks (6-3, 2-3 in SEC) became bowl-eligible and ensured themselves of a .500 or better record for the first time since 2016 with a 31-28 win over the Bulldogs on Saturday night.

Dominique Johnson’s four-yard score with 21 seconds left was the game-winner. Mississippi State had a chance to tie the game after getting to the Arkansas 25 with two seconds left, but the second-string kicker, Nolan McCord, missed the try wide and Arkansas players rushed the field in celebration.

McCord was only on because the starter, Brandon Ruiz, had missed two before that, including one from 22 yards.

Johnson’s touchdown came at the end of a 10-play, 75-yard drive that took just 2:01. Arkansas appeared to have lost the game two plays before when KJ Jefferson’s fourth-down pass to Treylon Burks fell to the turf, but Mississippi State was flagged for holding, giving the Razorbacks resuscitation.

The Bulldogs had taken the lead on the series before, with 2:22 left when Jo’quavious Marks hauled in a 15-yard score from quarterback Will Rogers. Rogers threw for 417 yards and four touchdowns in the game. Mississippi State entered the game averaging 371 yards through the air.

Arkansas’ win snapped a three-game losing streak and provides positive vibes heading into LSU next week. The Hogs have won in Baton Rouge just three times since joining the SEC.
