Call of Duty fans are split on Modern Warfare 2’s reveal

The gameplay trailer isn’t quite stirring up tons of hype.

After what feels like seemingly-endless teasing, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gameplay is out there. The trailer came out on Wednesday, and fan reactions are all over.

Not because Modern Warfare 2 looks terrible per se, but nothing sandwiches are never all that exciting. The footage is undoubtedly in-engine, but we didn’t see much actual gameplay. Constant quick cuts make that sort of thing hard, I guess. Probably the most interesting bit is some underwater sections. Swimming in Call of Duty, what a mad world we live in!

Before we go any further, watch the trailer for yourself. Context is key, after all.

Since there’s not a whole lot to go off of with this teaser, the fan consensus may as well not exist. Some are excited, others take shots, and memes are abundant. Take a look below.

Modern Warfare 2 looks wild in this gameplay reveal trailer

An open beta will arrive shortly before launch.

Following weeks of slow build-up, our first proper look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is finally here. No more hammy live-action stuff.

On Wednesday, Infinity Ward released a brand-new gameplay trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. We’ve known this was coming for several weeks now, but Activision thought official logos would tide us over somehow. There are loads of intense firefights, over-the-top set pieces, and plenty of night vision camera pans. Not that you would expect anything else from the Modern Warfare series.

Check out the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gameplay reveal for yourself below.

There’s certainly no denying that the graphics are impressive. It’s unclear which version this teaser pulls from, but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be available on Oct. 28, 2022, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Battle.net and Steam. Yes, Call of Duty is back on Valve’s storefront again.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 also has an open beta for anyone who pre-orders the game. It’s unclear when that will start, though.

Modern Warfare 2 reveal is happening June 8, probably coming to Steam

Fans will see the highly-anticipated FPS in action.

Following weeks of speculation, we finally have concrete details regarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2‘s gameplay unveiling. Indeed, something more significant than a logo.

On Thursday, Infinity Ward announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is getting a gameplay premiere on June 8, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. PDT // 1:00 P.M. EDT // 5:00 P.M. GMT. Right before Summer Games Fest begins, it seems those rumors were spot-on.

What’s particularly interesting about this announcement is that it looks as though Modern Warfare 2 will release on Steam. It’s not quite official, but Steam’s Twitter account quoted-tweeted the Modern Warfare 2 news with googly eyes. Really, what’s more formal than an emoji? Nothing at all, friends.

There’s also a new live-action trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which you can watch below. Have to say, “The Ultimate Weapon is Team” is way funnier than it should be. Sounds like some sort of awkward typo.

Rumors have been floating around regarding Modern Warfare 2 potentially landing on Steam for weeks now. So this all adds up. The series has been exclusive to Battle.net on PC since 2018.

Modern Warfare 2 artwork briefly appears on Steam

Call of Duty hasn’t been on the storefront in years.

A promotional image from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 briefly appeared on Steam before unceremoniously vanishing.

Over on Reddit, user Kalinine noticed that Modern Warfare 2 artwork of Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley popped up on the DLC Steam page for Call of Duty on Sunday. It’s already gone, though. So either someone managing the listing made a massive mistake, or Call of Duty might be returning to Steam. I wouldn’t expect the latter unless Activision explicitly states it.

The franchise hasn’t been on Steam since Call of Duty: WW2, which came out in 2017. Since then, Activision has made Battle.net the exclusive PC launcher for annual Call of Duty releases.

Details on Modern Warfare 2 are still pretty sparse outside of logos. We have a firm release date of Oct. 28, 2022, but there’s no platform information in general. Though you can surely expect it’ll land on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Whether consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One will get it is another matter, as many bigger titles like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor are ditching last-generation machines entirely.

Either way, we’ll surely get more information during Modern Warfare 2‘s gameplay reveal event on June 9, 2022.

Infinity Ward reveals Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s logo

It’s mean and slightly green.

Call of Duty’s next era is coming this fall, and it has an official title and logo now.

On Wednesday, Infinity Ward announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The studio already confirmed its current project would be a follow-up to 2019’s Modern Warfare, but the details were light back then. Despite what the name implies, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 probably won’t have anything in common with the 2009 game with the same title. Yeah, it’s a bit confusing, but what can you do.

Infinity Ward also revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2‘s logo. It’s nothing fancy, but most series diehards are probably frothing at the mouth right about now. Check it out below.
