Seahawks backup RB Rashaad Penny could miss time with calf strain

Seattle Seahawks backup running back Rashaad Penny could miss time with a calf strain, giving Alex Collins an opportunity to face the Titans.

The Seattle Seahawks might be without the services of one of their backup running backs for the near future. Rashaad Penny is still battling a calf injury, which caused him to leave the season opener in Indianapolis early.

“He’s got a calf strain, so it’ll take us a bit to figure out what the return would be on that,” coach Pete Carroll told reporters on Monday afternoon. “He ran really well when he ran the other night, so we’re going to miss him, it looks like this week, we won’t know. We’ll let you know how that goes.”

With Penny possibly out for the upcoming contest against the Titans, Alex Collins could get his shot on game day. Collins was a healthy scratch Week 1 against the Colts.

“But Alex is ready to go, and both Homer and DeeJay, they’re ready to go too, so we’re in good shape,” Carroll continued. “We had four running backs up this week, so we’re in pretty good shape at the position.

“Unfortunately, if it takes him a couple weeks, then we’ll figure out how to handle that.”

The Seahawks have an off day before resuming practice on Wednesday. Carroll should have updates on all the player injuries by then.
