UNC basketball watching Class of 2026’s top shooting guard at Holiday Tournament

Can UNC lock in its first Class of 2026 basketball commitment this weekend?

While the North Carolina Tar Heels try and break out of their rut this college basketball season, they’re also trying to recruit for the future.

It’s nearly Christmas, making it the perfect time to watch prospects, as cities across the nation hold Holiday Tournament.

Some of the UNC coaching staff is getting a piece of the recruiting pie this December, currently spending time at the City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.

There’s one particular star North Carolina has its eye on: Caleb Holt, the Class of 2026’s third-ranked player, Georgia’s top-ranked player and the nation’s top-ranked shooting guard.

The Tar Heels are in hot pursuit to land a commitment from Holt, whom they offered back in July. Holt is one of six players with a 2026 offer from UNC, which also extended offers to 5-star power forwards Tyran Stokes and Miikka Muurinin, 5-star small forwards Cameron Holmes and Cole Cloer, plus a fellow 5-star shooting guard in Jordan Smith.

If North Carolina wants to land a commitment from Holt, it’ll have to beat out 19 other schools looking at him, including two elite SEC programs in Auburn and Kentucky.

Holt, who now plays his high school basketball for Grayson High in Loganville, Ga. originally hails from Alabama. Holt’s first season at his new school is off to a solid start, as he has the Rams off to a 9-0 start.

Being able to land Holt would re-assure every UNC fan of Hubert Davis’ recruiting abilities. Despite landing 5-stars Drake Powell and Ian Jackson in the 2024 class, North Carolina is falling behind in the Class of 2025, with just two commitments from Isaiah Denis and Derek Dixon.

Auburn set to host 2026 point guard Kota Suttle on Saturday

Suttle joins a long list of recruits that will be visiting the Plains for Auburn’s showdown with Kentucky.

Many will attend Saturday’s tilt between No. 12 Auburn and No. 20 Kentucky at Neville Arena, including several big-time recruits.

A long list of targets will be in town Saturday, including a 2026 point guard from Georgia. Jeffrey Lee of Auburn Live reports that [autotag]Kota Suttle[/autotag], a point guard from Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia, will visit Saturday to watch the Tigers face the Wildcats.

Suttle is new to the recruiting game, which means that he does not have a rating by any major recruiting service yet. However, he has received several offers from programs such as Georgia, Cincinnati, and George Mason. He tells Jamie Shaw of On3 that he wants to play for a program that will give him an early opportunity to make a name for himself.

“I want to go somewhere that has a rich winning history. Somewhere I can go and make an early impact, and win games, and develop me to get to the next, next level,” Suttle said. “I’m comfortable playing on the ball and off the ball, and at this point, coaches will be moving around, so I’ll look at style of play later.”

Suttle is one of six recruits that will be in town this weekend to check out the Auburn-Kentucky showdown. Several prospects joining Suttle this weekend are five-star guards [autotag]Caleb Holt[/autotag] and [autotag]Jasper Johnson[/autotag].

5-star shooting guard Caleb Holt to be in Auburn on Saturday

As Saturday’s game against Kentucky, Auburn basketball target and five-star shooting guard Caleb Holt is set to make a visit to the Plains.

[autotag]Caleb Holt[/autotag] has become one of the most prolific guards in the 2026 recruiting class, and as of late, he has been receiving some attention from a few high-power programs. Now, the five-star out of Buckhorn High School (Ala.) is making yet another trip to the Plains on Saturday.

Holt makes the trip back to Auburn to see the Tigers take on the Kentucky Wildcats in a game that will feature ESPN’s College Gameday as well. This is Holt’s first trip back to the campus since he last visited in September.

The race to land the dynamic shooting guard has been, and will continue to be very competitive. Amongst the big schools who have offered Holt are the likes of Alabama, Ole Miss and Houston, plus many others.

The Alabama native is currently topping the charts as the top-ranked recruit in the state according to the On3 industry ranking, is the No. 2 shooting guard and the No. 4 overall player in his class.

Should the Tigers land him soon, Holt would be the program’s first commit in the 2026 class.

Bruce Pearl is looking to impress some of the top players in the country.

Two of the top basketball recruits in the country are set to visit Auburn this weekend according to a report from Auburn Undercover’s Jason Caldwell.

Five-star power forward [autotag]Bryson Tiller[/autotag] is the No. 6 player in the 2025 recruiting cycle and has been a major Auburn target for years. [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] and Auburn offered the Atlanta native a scholarship back in September 2021.
