Former Oklahoma State offensive tackle commits to BYU

BYU adds former Oklahoma State left tackle to the 2023 roster.

The BYU Cougars got a boost to their offensive line for the 2023 college football season. Former Oklahoma State left tackle Caleb Etienne announced on his Twitter account that he is heading west but staying in the conference.

Etienne and the Cougars are set to play Oklahoma State in Stillwater to close out their inaugural Big 12 season. Etienne started all 13 games for the Pokes at left tackle but could be in line to start on the right side for the Cougars. BYU returns Kingsley Suamataia from last year’s team.

Etienne will still have to earn the starting nod but given the level he played at Oklahoma State, his chances are pretty good to be a starter on the offensive line. The junior out of New Orleans, Louisiana, has two years of eligibility remaining. His biggest competition for BYU is Brayden Keim and Lisala Tai.

The Cougars start the 2023 season against Sam Houston State and Southern Utah before heading to Arkansas for their final nonconference game of the year. BYU will travel to Lawrence to take on the Kansas Jayhawks in their conference opener before their Big 12 home opener against fellow newcomers, the Cincinnati Bearcats on Sept. 29.

Veteran offensive lineman could emerge for USC in the transfer portal

One portal entrant is a proven O-lineman from Oklahoma State. #USC’s Mason Cobb transferred from OSU. Very interesting.

USC needs defensive linemen more than any other position players in the transfer portal, but with Courtland Ford leaving, the Trojans can still use more quality and depth on their offensive line.

Enter Caleb Etienne.

The 6-7, 330-pound senior was a junior college transfer in 2021, starting three games while preserving a redshirt. He will now transfer before this upcoming season.

Etienne started in all 13 games last season for Oklahoma State, one of only six total players to do so. He earned Second Team Academic All-Big 12 in 2022. Etienne saw action in three games while taking a redshirt in 2021.

Etienne was a three-star standout recruit out of powerhouse Warren Easton High School in New Orleans.

He ranked as the No. 32 overall junior college recruit nationally. He was the No. 2 junior college offensive tackle, according to 247Sports.

He signed with Oklahoma State over additional offers from Arkansas, Houston, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas Tech, UCF and others.

Look for USC to be in the mix as a potential landing spot for the left tackle. His former Pokes teammate Mason Cobb is already a Trojan, something to keep an eye out for.

Oklahoma State starting left tackle Caleb Etienne set to enter transfer portal

Oklahoma State’s offensive line lost a 13-game starter from last season on Friday.

The [autotag]Oklahoma State Cowboys[/autotag] took a big hit to their offensive line on Friday when starting left tackle Caleb Etienne announced that he is entering the transfer portal.

“Dear Cowboy Nation, I have decided to enter my name into transfer portal tomorrow,” Etienne said in his statement on Twitter. “I want to say thank you for all of the support and love that you have shown me during my time here in Stillwater. I am excited for this next journey in my life and I hope you understand. Thank you.”

The 6-foot-7-inch redshirt senior out of New Orleans, Louisiana, has one year of eligibility remaining in his collegiate career. Last season, Etienne played and started all 13 games for the Cowboys at left tackle. He also played in three games while redshirting in 2021.

Etienne originally came to Oklahoma State as part of the 2021 recruiting class after spending time at a pair of JUCOs in Fort Scott and Butler County Community College.

This offseason, Oklahoma State brought in another tackle to their offensive line in Dalton Cooper. Cooper was a multiple All-Sun Belt selection during his three seasons with the Bobcats while playing in 36 games over three seasons. Cooper and Etienne were part of a competition at the left tackle position this spring for the Cowboys. Now with Etienne in the transfer portal, Dalton is likely slated to be the program’s starting left tackle come next fall.

The Cowboys are set to play their spring game later this month on April 22 and will start their 2023 season on September 2, hosting the Central Arkansas Bears.
