Where Oregon Ducks who entered the transfer portal ended up

There have been over 30 former Ducks that have entered the transfer portal since the 2022 season. Here’s where they ended up.

Whenever a coaching change occurs, players tend to hit the transfer portal as hard as a receiver crossing the middle.

Oregon isn’t any different, though the mass exodus was more of a slow burn across a year, rather than something more immediate like we’ve seen with Deion Sanders at Colorado.

Since the hiring of Dan Lanning, almost half of the roster entered the transfer portal, and most have found nice landing spots for themselves. Some have even stayed in the Pac-12.

But almost as soon as former Ducks transferred out, plenty of players in that same portal were looking to replace them. The line of potential Ducks is as long as those who left Eugene.

Here we look at recent players who were once Ducks and where they happened to find themselves for the 2023 season. Some are still looking for a destination for the next season. Some followed former offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham at Arizona State and some have even gone to UCLA and play for Chip Kelly.

Here are the Ducks to enter the transfer portal in the 2023 cycle, and where they are now:

Oregon WR Caleb Chapman announces transfer from Ducks

Oregon WR Caleb Chapman announces that he will enter the transfer portal after spending one season in Eugene.

The Oregon Ducks lost another player to the transfer portal on Tuesday, with veteran wide receiver Caleb Chapman announcing that he would be leaving Eugene.

Chapman only spent one season with the Ducks, where he logged one catch for 15 yards. Before coming to Eugene, Chapman spent three years with the Texas A&M Aggies, but dealt with a lot of injuries during his time at College Station.

While an early injury caused Chapman to miss some time in 2022, it was hard to the veteran transfer to get onto the field once he was fully healthy. We will see where he ends up for his final year of college eligibility.

Caleb Chapman is ready to put his injuries in the rear view mirror

Oregon wide receiver Caleb Chapman looks to put his injuries behind him and wants to make an impact for the Ducks.

Caleb Chapman wasn’t in Eugene for spring practices, but it looks like that won’t matter much.

The former Texas A&M wide receiver joined the Ducks via the transfer portal early this summer and it didn’t take long for Chapman to open a lot of eyes within the Oregon program.

At 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, the senior has been battling injuries throughout his career, including two ACL tears and a foot ailment, so his statistics don’t jump off the page. Now completely healthy, Chapman looks to jump up the depth chart and become a major threat to take a starting spot from someone in an already deep and talented receivers room.

Here’s everything of note Chapman had to say in his first media session as a Duck.

Jersey numbers unveiled for Oregon WR Caleb Chapman, 5-star OT Josh Conerly

We got a look at what jersey numbers WR Caleb Chapman and OT Josh Conerly will be wearing with the Ducks this season.

The spring football season brought several of the incoming Oregon Ducks to Eugene, but as the summer months get here, we’re seeing the rest of the incoming transfer and 2022 recruiting class start to get settled on campus.

With that comes the revelation of a few new jersey numbers.

For whatever reason, a lot of fans always love to see what number their new favorite players are going to be wearing. In the case of 5-star offensive tackle Josh Conerly, Oregon’s top recruit in the 2022 class and one of the highest-rated recruits in Oregon history, we got a glimpse of his locker over the weekend, revealing that he will wear jersey number 76 in his first year with the Ducks.

We also got a number unveiling from incoming wide receiver transfer Caleb Chapman, who is coming to the Ducks from the Texas A&M Aggies via the transfer portal. He announced over the weekend that he will be wearing No. 19 with Oregon.

As more incoming players start to get settled, we might see new numbers pop up here and there. But for the most part, we may have to wait until we get the first fall camp rosters to see who will be wearing what this season.

Two Oregon Duck transfers named among biggest losses for SEC schools

The Ducks did a good job getting some of the top transfers out of the SEC this season, leaving their former teams with holes to fill.

The transfer portal and the transfer portal taketh away.

For the Oregon Ducks, there have been some notable losses this year — Travis Dye, DJ James, Kingsley Suamataia and Trey Benson — but also a number of key additions coming to Eugene. Among them are Christian Gonzalez, Sam Taimani, Mar’Keise Irving, Noah Whittington and Chase Cota.

Recently On3s broke down some of the biggest players to leave the SEC this offseason through the transfer portal, and it so happens a pair of those players ended up joining the Ducks.

Those players were former Auburn quarterback Bo Nix and former Texas A&M wide receiver Caleb Chapman.

Here’s what On3 had to say about each player:

QB Bo Nix

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Nix never lived up to his five-star recruiting ranking, but he was a three-year starter for the Tigers who accounted for 57 touchdowns and 8,120 yards of total offense. For all of his inconsistency, he will be missed. Auburn doesn’t figure to name a starter until late in summer camp. Holdover T.J. Finley and transfers Zach Calzada (Texas A&M) and Robby Ashford (Oregon) are the contenders. While Ashford looked good in the spring, he hasn’t played in a real game. Finley is limited. And while Calzada helped A&M beat Alabama last season, he also was the quarterback when the Aggies lost four games, including to Mississippi State and LSU. In short, while Nix certainly left Auburn fans wanting more during his Tigers career, chances are Tigers fans will miss him this fall.

WR Caleb Chapman

Maria Lysaker-USA TODAY Sports

The Aggies weren’t that active in the transfer portal, bringing in just one player, and they’re also not really going to miss anyone who left. Chapman is an intriguing talent, but he can’t stay healthy. He played in 22 games in four seasons; 10 of those came in 2019, when he was a redshirt freshman and made just one reception. He finished his A&M career with 28 receptions. Still, receiver is a question for coach Jimbo Fisher. A&M has talent at receiver; that talent just needs to show itself this season.

Throughout the spring, we saw Nix take the reins in Eugene and arguably become a front-runner for the starting QB spot in the fall. As for Chapman, his transfer came after the spring game, so our first look at him will not come until fall camp.

Oregon picks up receiver Caleb Chapman out of the transfer portal

Dan Lanning picks up another transfer in Caleb Chapman, a former Texas A&M receiver and four-star recruit.

That NCAA transfer portal keeps on spitting out talent in Oregon’s direction.

Former Texas A&M wide receiver Caleb Chapman has announced that he intends on committing to the Ducks for the 2022 season, according to 247 Sports reporter Brian Perroni.

The 6-foot-5 receiver was a four-star recruit and he was recruited by the Ducks coming out of Friendswood, Texas, and Clear Brook High. In his four seasons with the Aggies, Chapman had 28 catches and three touchdowns.

When he comes to Oregon, the senior will still have two years of eligibility remaining. Chapman’s biggest game came against Kent State last season when he totaled 91 yards on just four catches, including a career-long 53-yard reception. He also managed to haul in three passes for 77 yards in a win over Auburn, which was ranked No. 12 at the time.
