On Wednesday, the Scarlet Knights added a high-level catcher when 2025 recruit Caden Christman committed to Rutgers baseball. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound catcher is a solid addition to the Scarlet Knights and will be a contributor behind the plate.

Christman has played his high school ball at Apex Friendship High School in Apex, North Carolina, for the past three seasons. The future Scarlet Knight has recorded 21 hits, 17 RBIs, and four doubles while holding a batting average of .212 in 99 at-bats with the Patriots.

In his high school career, he has struck out 48 times and has logged 23 walks, recording a .376 on-base percentage. While catching, Christman has registered 239 putouts behind the plate while logging seven errors in 45 games. He holds a .978 fielding percentage in three seasons with the Patriots.

As a catcher, Christman throws with accuracy and has a strong arm. He has a large frame with good present physicality, running a 7.37-second 60-yard dash, according to Perfect Game. As a right-handed hitter, he doesn’t offer power at the plate but makes consistent contact.

Rutgers baseball officially signs Caden Christman

Rutgers baseball added another key piece last week to their 2024 recruiting class.

Rutgers baseball continued to build for the future with the addition of another player last week. On Friday, the Scarlet Knights announced the official signing of Caden Christman.

With the New Hill, North Carolina catcher in the mix, Rutgers has added a potent bat to their lineup. Christman is a member of the 2024 recruiting class.

During his high school career, Christman has appeared in 45 games and shown a little power with four extra-base hits. While he has only posted a .212 batting average, he hit .400 during six games as a freshman on varsity.

Although his college debut is still months away, Rutgers did not hide its excitement for having Christman on board on social media.

While he is still developing, Christman has shown that he can make an impact with the bat. He” works slightly uphill and uses strength well to impact the ball hard on a line when squared,” according to Perfect Game. If he can improve his consistency, Rutgers offense will be in good hands.

Regardless of how the Scarlet Knights continue to add to their 2024 class, they have a promising catcher in Christman they can rely on.
