Former Grace Christian star returns home to play Vols

Former Knoxville area high school star C.J. Gettelfinger has two points in game against Vols.

When Tennessee Tech’s men’s basketball team made a visit to Rocky Top and Thompson-Boling Arena Friday night, it marked a homecoming for a former Knoxville area high school star.

Golden Eagles’ sophomore guard C.J. Gettelfinger scored two points and had one rebound in Tennessee Tech’s 103-49 loss to Tennessee.

Gettlefinger, who transferred to Tennessee Tech after spending his freshman season at Oakland University in Michigan, was a high school star at Grace Christian Academy in Knoxville.

In his inaugural campaign at Tennessee Tech (0-8), Gettelfinger entered Friday night’s contest averaging 3.3 points, 1.3 assists and one rebound per game.

In high school, he was a four-year starter for the Rams. He had his senior season at Grace Christian cut short after suffering a broken wrist.

As a junior for the Rams, he averaged 24 points and six assists per game while leading the team to a Division II-A state championship in 2018. The Rams outlasted district rival Webb School of Knoxville to win the title in Nashville.

As a college freshman with the Golden Grizzlies, he played in 20 games.
