Bayern is the best team in the league whether or not it has necessarily got the results.

However, on the road, at this value, I would pass on the moneyline of -150. It  just isn’t good enough as Bayern clearly is still trying to figure out how to close out matches. It is just 2-1-1 on the road this season.

Dortmund, on the other hand, has lost just once at home and won 3 times. If there is a play on the moneyline it is for Dortmund to win outright, but I’d rather look to the total for value.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 3.5 (-110).

Both games between these 2 clubs finished 3-1 in favor of Bayern last year, but both teams also lost their leading scorer. The turnover has weighed heavily on Dortmund.

They’ve averaging just 1.38 goals per game and are taking on one of the best defenses in the league.

However, Bayern has also struggled offensively. In 2 games, they scored 13 goals, but Bayern has had 2 or fewer in 5 of 8 league games.

Also, throughout all competitions, Bayern has 7 clean sheets in 13 appearances. They held even Barcelona to 0 in a Champions League battle.

Given Bayern’s defense and both teams’ offensive struggles, I’d play the UNDER 3.5 (-110).

I like Dortmund to win at home, and Schalke has had some difficult games against mid-tier sides this season.

However, at -240, there isn’t much value, and you could go ahead and back Dortmund by assuming they’ll heavily limit Schalke as they’ve had 3 clean sheets in 6 games this season.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET UNDER 3.5 (-150).

Dortmund’s defense has taken their play to the next level as of late.

As noted, they have had multiple clean sheets this season and have also managed to win several gritty matches, beating Hertha BSC 1-0 and Hoffenheim by the same score. At this total, they’ve be 2-4 O/U.

While Schalke’s defense leaves much to be desired so has its attack. It has multiple goals in just 2 league matches.

While its defense has been the problem, Schalke has also only allowed more than 2 expected goals just one time this season, so it could start to get some luck on its side defensively.

Dortmund has gone Under this total in 4 of 5 matches at home through all competitions while Schalke has gone Under it in its last 2 straight road matches.

It has been steamed up from -125, but I’ll take the UNDER 3.5 (-150) here.

My favorite play in this match is to back the road side.

After all, Leipzig has been playing horrible soccer as of late, allowing 4 goals in their last 2 matches. They also kicked off the season with a 5-3 loss to Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup.

Similarly, while it has one hiccup, Dortmund has been dominant, winning 3 straight and allowing under 1 expected goal in each of those. Their defense, led by veteran D Mats Hummels, has been impressive, having yet to allow over 1.5 expected goals in any competition.

Dortmund is undefeated on the road as well, so they are familiar with being able to succeed in tough environments. Combine it all, and the value on Dortmund is too great not to play.

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN OVER 3.5 (+133).

Dortmund has gone over this in just 2 of 5 matches in Bundesliga play, but it’s less about their ability to score and more about Leipzig’s recent bout of incompetence.

Leipzig has allowed 8 goals in their last 2 games. They have had 8 matches throughout all competitions and in 3 of them at least 4 goals have been scored by their opponent. In 5 of 8, their opponent has tallied at least 2.

Against a Dortmund side with a terrific midfield and speed up top, they should be able to break through with ease, much like Shakhtar did in the Champions League.

Also, while Dortmund’s defense has been great, Leipzig has scored at least once in 7 of their 8 matches, so they should be able to get on the board.

Couple that with Dortmund having played lacking offensive sides, and we should see a high-scoring match on Saturday.

While I’d love to find some value to back Bayern, there just isn’t any. At -600, it’s not worth playing them to straight-up win.

I do like Bayern Munich to win with a clean sheet which we’ll talk about more below. The value on that is +120 and might be the best value bet in this match.

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN ALTERNATE UNDER 3.5 (+140).

Bayern is coming off a midweek match, so it should be sluggish. At home, Bayern is 1-0-1 but has yet to top this total and has actually yet to even have more than 2 combined goals.

Their scoring hasn’t quite been the same this season outside of a 7-0 and 5-0 victory in league play.

They’ve only gone over this total in 2 of their last 6 matches. Also, in 5 of the 6 games in which expected goals have been recorded, Bayern has held their opponent to 1 or fewer.

Vfb doesn’t have a premier forward, so it should easily be held scoreless. They’ve been held without a goal in 2 of their last 3 as well. Vfb has had just 1 multi-goal game as well, so goals have not been plentiful for the road side.

They’ve scored in just 1 of 3 away matches which is where I see the value in the Bayern clean sheet.

I like Bayern Munich at -280, but there’s no value in it.

Bayern is a dominant side, but they drew an inferior opponent last weekend. It’s easily able to happen against with Union Berlin sitting in 2nd in Bundesliga action.

FC Union Berlin or Tie at +185 actually feels like it has some value, but similar to Real Madrid in La Liga or Manchester City in the EPL, betting against Bayern also doesn’t make much sense.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET OVER 3.5 (+110).

Bayern has an elite attacking side, and although it scored just 1 last weekend, it had over 3.5 expected goals. Munich added Mane during the offseason, and it has paid immediate dividends. He’s fit in perfectly.

Union Berlin, which has given up a goal in 2 straight matches, also has a solid attack, having scored 11 goals in 4 matches. Both teams have topped this total in 2 of their 4 matches.

Bayern has allowed at least .7 expected goals in each of their 4 games, and with a competent attack, Union Berlin should be expected to get on the board.

Put it all together, and I’ll take the Over 3.5 (+110).

I wouldn’t play this at -540. There’s really nothing more to be said given Bayern’s dominance, but a vote for the total seems a better-priced way to cheer on the home side.

Bayern Munich’s offense has almost been embarrassingly (to its opponents) good. They’ve scored under 5 goals in just 1 of their 4 matches so far this season, evening putting 5 on RB Leipzig in the DFL-Supercup.

They’ve averaged 5 per game in league play. To make things even more interesting, Monchengladbach comes in averaging 2 per game as well, so it could be a dynamic offensive display.

Monchengladbach played Bayern well last season, winning and drawing in 2 league matches. This is a different type of Bayern attack though, 1 more laced with speed than finesse.

Even in the lone match that went under this total for Bayern, they had 24 shots, 8 on target. If they continue their dominant trend, especially likely at home, goals should abundant.

Until they cool down, I would keep riding the Bayern wave, and this is the best way to do just that.

Borussia Dortmund 2, Bayer Leverkusen 1

Dortmund was unstoppable at home last season, posting 13 wins and 4 losses. They beat Bayer 4-3 on the road last season, but had that win virtually evened out by a 5-2 home loss.

Their crushing home defeat was without Haaland, the team’s main attacking force. F Thorgan Hazard and 17-year-old F Jamie Bynoe-Gittens may have to carry the load, but they’re more than capable to step up into that striker role.

Bayer lost just 3 road games last season, so it is a formidable side, but considering how they kicked off the Pokal tournament, it seems they could be destined for a more challenging season.

LEAN UNDER 3.5 (-115).

Dortmund is going to have to figure things out up top and do it against one of the better German sides. While I expect them to win, there’s no denying that type of change is going to have a feeling-out process.

As for Bayer, they are returning their captain, GK Lukáš Hrádecký, and had the sixth-best defense in the league last season. They should be able to give Dortmund some early issues.
