Buffalo at Northern Illinois odds, picks and predictions

The Buffalo Bulls (2-1) travel to meet the Northern Illinois Huskies (2-0) Saturday at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb, Ill., for the MAC opener for both sides. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Buffalo vs. Northern Illinois odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Bulls picked up a 34-3 win over UMass at home last Saturday as a 3-point favorite as the Under (46) cashed. Buffalo rebounded from a 38-0 shellacking from No. 8 Missouri Sept. 7 in its only previous road contest. The Bulls are 2-1 against the spread (ATS), and the Under has cashed in all 3 outings to date.

The Huskies pulled off one of the biggest shockers of the early season, if not the biggest upset. Last time out Sept. 7, NIU went to South Bend and defeated then-No. 5 Notre Dame by a 16-14 score as a 28-point underdog as the Under (47.5) cashed.

NIU has covered both games so far, including a 54-15 win over FCS Western Illinois in its only previous home game as a 35.5-point favorite. The Over (55.5) also cashed in NIU’s only previous home contest.

These MAC combatants haven’t met since Nov. 17, 2021 in Buffalo, a 33-27 OT win for Northern Illinois. The road team has won the past 3 meetings in the series, including Buffalo’s 49-30 win at NIU Nov. 4, 2020 as a 14.5-point favorite. The Over has cashed in the previous 3 meetings, too.

Buffalo at Northern Illinois picks and predictions

Prediction

Northern Illinois 31, Buffalo 17

Moneyline

Northern Illinois (-600) will cost you 5 1/2 times your potential return, which is way too much risk for not enough reward. It isn’t a recommended betting strategy to bet such a heavy favorite straight up, or even as part of a multi-leg parlay. Over the long term, it’s a poor betting strategy.

AVOID.

Against the spread

Back NORTHERN ILLINOIS -13 (-110) as long as this one stays below a flat 14 or higher. The Huskies are coming off that giant win at Notre Dame, and they’ve had 2 weeks to prepare for this conference opener. Look for the Huskies to be prepared well.

QB Ethan Hampton has replaced the departed Rocky Lombardi nicely, completing 71.8% of his passes for 526 yards, 6 TD and 0 INT. RB Antario Brown and WRs Gavin Barnes and Trayvon Rudolph give Hampton a handful of solid pass-catching options in the offense, too.

Buffalo +13 (-110) isn’t as gifted offensively, as QB C.J. Ogbonna has been erratic. He can pull it down and run, though, and the Bulls have a handful of backfield options to pile up the yards in more of a ground-based attack.

Over/Under

OVER 42.5 (-110) is a solid play in this conference opener. When these teams get together, we generally see a lot of points. The Over has hit in 3 straight meetings since Nov. 30, 2018.

Be careful, as the Under has cashed in 3 straight for UB, but one of those results is because it was shutout at Mizzou, and the Bulls defense shut down Lafayette and UMass in a couple of mismatches at home.

NIU has split the Over and Under through 2 outings, going high in its only previous home game.

Buffalo at Missouri odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Buffalo at Missouri odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Buffalo Bulls (1-0) and No. 10 Missouri Tigers (1-0) clash Saturday at Memorial Stadium/Faurot Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (SEC Network+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Buffalo vs. Missouri odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Bulls gored the Lafayette Leopards 30-13 in their season opener Aug. 29. QB C.J. Ogbonna went 14-for-24 for 195 yards, 2 scores and 0 picks. RB Jacqez Barksdale rushed 14 times for 99 yards and 1 score as well. Buffalo got out to a 16-point lead at halftime and were really never challenged.

Mizzou was like Mike Tyson’s tiger in the bathroom with a 51-0 thrashing of Murray State Aug. 29. Heisman-hopeful WR Luther Burden III caught 4 passes for 49 yards and a TD as the Tigers went up 28-0 in the 1st quarter and kind of took the foot off the gas. Seven players ran the ball, and 4 players reached the end zone on the ground. One minor detail to monitor is TE Brett Norfleet (shoulder) is out for this game.

Missouri is No. 10 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, conducted by the American Football Coaches Association and USA TODAY Sports.

  • Against the spread (ATS): Buffalo +34.5 (-110) | Missouri -34.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 51.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Buffalo vs. Missouri picks and predictions

Prediction

Missouri 42, Buffalo 14

Moneyline

There was no ML available at press time, and honestly, we wouldn’t touch it with a 10-foot pole anyway.

I would go with OVER 28.5 FIRST HALF POINTS (-105). Mizzou put up 28 in the 1st quarter, and Buffalo had 16 in their 1st half. They know they’re going to have to go for it in order to contend with the Tigers’ offense.

Against the spread

Buffalo is a more formidable foe than the Murray State squad was against Mizzou. I don’t think they stand a chance, but if you’re forced to take a side here, take BUFFALO +34.5 (-110).

Over/Under

This total seems low to me, and it’s insinuating that they don’t think Buffalo can score more than 10 points. As mentioned, the Bulls will have to air it out early in order to contend. That lends to a sweat-free OVER 51.5 (-110).

Buffalo at Toledo odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Buffalo at Toledo odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Buffalo Bulls (3-5, 3-1 MAC) and Toledo Rockets (7-1, 4-0) meet Tuesday at the Glass Bowl in Toledo, Ohio. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Buffalo vs. Toledo odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Bulls opened by losing the first 4 games of the season, but Buffalo has won 3 of the past 4 games overall to keep hope alive for bowl eligibility. UB has covered 4 of the past 5 games, too, while hitting the Under in each of the past 4 games.

The Buffalo defense allowed 38 or more points in the first 4 games, hitting the Over in each outing. However, the Bulls have allowed just 13.3 PPG in the past 4 outings, all Unders.

The Rockets have won 7 in a row since a 30-28 loss at Illinois in the opener  on Sept. 2. Toledo covered at Miami (Ohio) on Oct. 21, winning 21-17 as a 2.5-point favorite as the Under (46.5) cashed. The cover snapped an 0-5 ATS skid.

  • Over/Under (O/U): 51.5 (O: -104 | U: -118)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Buffalo at Toledo picks and predictions

Prediction

Toledo 31, Buffalo 19

Moneyline

Toledo (-710) will cost you more than 7 times your potential return, and that’s quite a bit of risk against a Buffalo (+490) team playing very well right now.

The Bulls likely aren’t going to the Glass Bowl and snapping the 7-game winning streak of the Rockets, but it isn’t going to be a blowout, either.

PASS.

Against the spread

BUFFALO +15.5 (-110) is a strong play, as the Bulls look to improve on a 4-1 ATS mark in the past 5 outings.

Conversely, Toledo -15.5 (-110) has won 7 in a row, but it is just 1-5 ATS in the past 6 outings. The Rockets have posting an 0-3 ATS mark in 3 tries at home against FBS opponents this season, too, with its only cover against Texas Southern of the FCS back on Sept. 9.

Over/Under

UNDER 51.5 (-118) is the lean in this Tuesday MAC battle.

The total has gone low in the past 2 games for Toledo, averaging 17.0 PPG on offense, while allowing just 11.5 PPG.

For Buffalo, the Bulls are on a 4-game Under run, averaging 22.0 PPG, while allowing 13.3 PPG. This will be an interesting game, and points should be at a premium.

Buffalo at Wisconsin odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Buffalo at Wisconsin odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Buffalo Bulls head to Camp Randall Stadium to take on the No. 21 Wisconsin Badgers Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. (FS1). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Buffalo vs. Wisconsin odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Wisconsin cut its final tie to the Barry Alvarez era at the school after firing Justin Leonard midway through the 2022 season. New coach Luke Fickell and offensive coordinator Phil Longo will bring an entirely new philosophy where the passing game is a part of the game plan.

While many are calling this the Dairy Raid offense, there will be quite a few run plays mixed in. This is still Wisconsin, and the offensive line is still massive.

Buffalo has not been the same since coach Lance Liepold left for Kansas following the 2020 season. He took a lot of talent with him and improved Kansas immediately while Buffalo has floundered in the MAC.

With both teams going in differing directions, this will not be an ultra-competitive game. Instead, Wisconsin fans and football fans alike will watch to see what coach Fickell can do in Madison as he rings in a new era of football.

Wisconsin is No. 21 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

  • Against the spread (ATS): Buffalo +27.5 (-104) | Wisconsin -27.5 (-118)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 53.5 (O: -108 | U: -112)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Buffalo at Wisconsin picks and predictions

Prediction

Wisconsin 45, Buffalo 13

Moneyline

PASS.

With this game being so lopsided, neither Buffalo (+1600) nor Wisconsin (-4500) is worth the action it would take to justify a play. The Bulls are highly unlikely to even keep this one close.

Against the spread

BET WISCONSIN -27.5 (-118).

Wisconsin will look to get out to a fast start under coach Fickell and offensive coordinator Longo. RB Braelon Allen will be able to gain big yards in the run game behind the monster offensive line and new QB Tanner Mordecai will bring a pass game to the Badgers after transferring from SMU. Both parts of the offense will be successful against an overmatched Bulls team.

Wisconsin has some more challenging games ahead in the coming weeks. While this is a substantial number, the Badgers will look to come out strong on Saturday after being embarrassed for much of 2022.

Over/Under

BET OVER 53.5 (-108).

While the Wisconsin defense will hold down Buffalo, the same can not be said for the Bulls holding down the Badgers.

With Allen and Mordecai leading the charge, Wisconsin will score more than 40 points, meaning the Over should cash if Buffalo gets to 13. Garbage time is real and despite the stout defense Wisconsin will bring there could be a lot of it. This means a few opportunities for the Bulls to gather up some points. It will be close, but this game should cash the Over 53.5 in the closing minutes of a blowout win by Wisconsin.

MAC Tournament: Buffalo vs. Akron odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Buffalo vs. Akron odds, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Buffalo Bulls (15-16, 9-9) and Akron Zips (21-10, 13-5) meet Thursday in a Mid-American Tournament first-round matchup. Tip from Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland is at approximately 6:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Buffalo vs. Akron odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Buffalo heads into the tournament with 3 wins in the last 4 games, while going 2-2 ATS during the span. It likely wanted to draw anybody else but Akron, as the Bulls lost 81-64 at home on Jan. 31, while suffering an 86-66 setback in Akron on Feb. 18.

Akron is looking to become the first back-to-back MAC Tournment champ since Buffalo in 2018-19. The Zips have won 4 of the last 6 games overall, while going 3-2-1 ATS. The Over has cashed in 3 in a row, and 6 of the last 8 outings overall.

Buffalo vs. Akron picks and predictions

Prediction

Akron 79, Buffalo 69

Moneyline

Akron is way too expensive for a standalone bet. AVOID and focus on the spread instead.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

Consider AKRON -7.5 (-110) in the tournament opener for both sides.

Buffalo +7.5 (-110) is 2-6 ATS in the last 8 games overall, while also failing to cash in its last 5 games against winning teams. Akron has cashed in 4 straight games against teams with a losing overall record.

Over/Under

OVER 146.5 (-110) is the lean, but go lightly, with a half-unit at best.

The Over-Under split in the 2 regular-season meetings between these teams. The Over is 6-2 in the last 8 games overall for the Zips, however, while cashing in 2 of the final 3 regular-season games for the Bulls.

Miami (Ohio) at Buffalo odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Miami (Ohio) at Buffalo odds and lines, with expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (12-18, 6-11 Mid-American) look to end a disappointing season on a bright note against the Buffalo Bulls (14-16, 8-9) in Alumni Arena Friday at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Miami vs. Buffalo odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

This will be a shootout in Buffalo. The 1st meeting between these teams on Jan. 10 finished with the RedHawks winning 91-80 after Buffalo came in favored by 3 points.

Defense is optional when these teams play. Buffalo ranks 348th in the nation, allowing 77.4 points per game, while Miami is 295th at 74.2 PPG.

Despite the RedHawks scoring 91 against Buffalo last time, they only average 74.0 PPG. Buffalo’s offense ranks 43rd at 77.9 points.

With this game in Buffalo, the home-court Bulls will be able to score in spurts while Miami will have some trouble keeping up.

Miami (Ohio) at Buffalo picks and predictions

Prediction

Buffalo 88, Miami Ohio 82

Moneyline

PASS.

With both offenses being able to score, I am giving the edge to Buffalo playing at home. With the line being so high at -400, I am not willing to make a play and I would rather take a chance on the total of 152.5.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

MIAMI (Ohio) +8.5 (-110).

Miami is coming off a rare win this season. In its last 6 games after a win, the RedHawks are 5-1 ATS. They are also 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.

On the converse, Buffalo is 1-5 ATS after covering in its prior game. It is also 1-5 ATS in its last 6 following an outright win.

Both teams go in different directions following a win this season. I will take my chances, but only slightly, with the underdog RedHawks to cover the large +8.5 number being offered.

Over/Under

OVER 152.5 (-110).

After getting to 171 in the prior meeting, this will be another game in which neither defense can stop the opposing offense.

Buffalo will also be able to score on a leaky RedHawks defense as both teams let it all hang out as the season comes to a close. Expect points and a lot of them. 152.5 is not high enough to avoid taking the Over.

Kent State at Buffalo odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Kent State at Buffalo odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

Kent State has the best record in the MAC and is 15-7 ATS. It is coming off an 87-64 win over Bowling Green State University, covering as a 13.5-point favorite. The Golden Flashes are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 and 5-5 ATS in the last 10.

Kent State at Buffalo picks and predictions

Prediction

Kent State 79, Buffalo 76

Moneyline

Not available, but Kent State as a road favorite isn’t worth the expected steep price.

Against the spread

LEAN BUFFALO +4.5 (-110).

Kent State has failed to cover in 2 straight road games. While 15-7 ATS on the season, it is just 5-6 ATS in conference games. Buffalo is 6-5 ATS in Mid-American Conference games. The Bulls are 3-2 ATS in their last 5 games as well.

They have an efficient attack, ranking 71st in the nation in field goal percentage (46.5%). Considering Buffalo is 9-3 straight up at home while Kent State is 6-5 straight up on the road, Buffalo is an enticing play.

Back BUFFALO +4.5 (-110).

Over/Under

BET OVER 150.5 (-105).

Buffalo has gone Over in 2 straight games and in 3 of its last 5. It has scored at least 85 points in 2 straight games.

Kent State has scored at least 80 in 2 of its last 3 games as well, and it has topped its projected total in 4 of its last 6. The Bulls are 12-10 O/U on the season and 6-5 O/U in conference games.

Ultimately, back the OVER 150.5 (-105).

Akron at Buffalo odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Akron at Buffalo odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Akron Zips (15-6, 7-1 MAC) and Buffalo Bulls (10-11, 4-4) clash in a Mid-American Conference tussle Tuesday. The contest at Alumni Arena will tip off at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Akron vs. Buffalo odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Akron has won 6 straight games — all within the MAC — and is tied with Kent State for 1st place in the conference. The Zips had a 5-game losing skid when playing away from home between Nov. 22 and Jan. 6, but have won their last 3 road games since.

The Bulls are coming off a 74-68 loss to Kent State Friday. Buffalo was a 10.5-point underdog in that game and is 3-1 against the spread (ATS) since Jan. 17. Buffalo is just 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games against Akron.

Akron at Buffalo picks and predictions

Prediction

Akron 77, Buffalo 68

Moneyline

Too much juice getting in the way of what should be a solid Akron -140 play. PASS, unless that price becomes available.

Against the spread

Akron has gone 4-1 ATS in the last 5 series meetings.

Buffalo has played a tougher slate, but UA is playing the better ball of late. The Zips play a slow style of basketball that runs counter to what its MAC foes mostly see in what is a fast league. Akron should be able to counter a strong offensive-rebounding Bulls team, and the Zips figure to have advantages when points are added in free throws and 3s.

BACK THE ZIPS -2.5 (-110).

Over/Under

A sliver of a lean on the Under, but nothing worth a sportsbook account login. PASS.

The Buffalo Bulls (10-10, 4-3 MAC) will go up against the Kent State Golden Flashes (16-4, 6-1) on Friday at Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN+). The Bulls cruised to a 91-65 win over Ball State on Tuesday to cover as 6-point underdogs on the road. Buffalo’s last 3 wins have all been by 18 points or more.

Buffalo at Kent State picks and predictions

Prediction

Kent State 84, Buffalo 72

Moneyline

AVOID.

It isn’t worth taking Kent State straight up at these odds.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

KENT STATE -10.5 (-110) is the lean in this MAC showdown and I’d play this spread to -11.5. The Golden Flashes will likely come out firing at home on Friday following a disappointing loss to Ball State.

Kent State is 8-1-1 ATS in its last 10 home games against a team with a losing road record.

Over/Under

Even though it’s a high total, OVER 151.5 (-110) seems like the ideal choice between these 2 teams. Buffalo and Kent State have been involved in some high-scoring games recently, and MAC matchups have had plenty of points scored this season.

The Bulls have hit the Over in 4 straight road games against a team with a winning home record and 6 straight road games. Meanwhile, the Golden Flashes have gone 4-1-1 to the Over in their last 6 home games.

Toledo at Buffalo odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Toledo at Buffalo odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Toledo Rockets (12-6, 3-2 MAC) battle the Buffalo Bulls (9-9, 3-2) Friday. Tip from Alumni Arena is set for 8:30 p.m. ET (CBSSN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Toledo vs. Buffalo odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Toledo beat Ohio 90-75 Tuesday, covering as a 9-point home favorite. The Rockets are 9-7 against the spread (ATS) this season and 3-3 straight up on the road. They are 3-1 ATS in their last 4 games. The Rockets’ strength is offense, ranking 7th in the nation in points per game (84.8).

Buffalo beat Bowling Green 100-71 at home Tuesday, easily covering as a 6.5-point favorite. It is 8-1 straight up at home and 9-6-1 ATS on the season. The Buffs are 3-0 ATS over their last 3 home games. Their strength is also offense, ranking 30th in the nation in points per game (79.9).

Toledo at Buffalo picks and predictions

Prediction

Buffalo 86, Toledo 83

Moneyline

SPRINKLE BUFFALO (+170).

Buffalo has been surging at home lately, and it has been strong at Alumni Arena all season. It is 8-1 at home while Toledo is 3-3 on the road. For the riskier crowd, take a chance on BUFFALO (+170), but I would preferrable take the points on the spread.

Against the spread

BET BUFFALO +5.5 (-115).

Buffalo is a MAC-best 6-1 ATS as the home team. On a similar note, Toledo is 3-3 both ATS and straight up on the road.

In conference games, both teams are 3-2 ATS. That said, Buffalo has been a home underdog 4 times, and are 3-1 straight up and ATS in those games.

The Bulls scored 100 points in their last battle and have topped 78 in 4 straight games. Their offense is clicking, and at home, backing BUFFALO +5.5 (-115) is a strong play.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 167.5 (-115).

This is a high total, but the Buffs have gone Over the projected total in 3 straight games. They are 9-7 O/U this season while the Rockets are 13-3 O/U. Toledo has gone Over in 5 of their last 7 games.

Both teams are 3-2 O/U in conference play. Each has a high-tempo offense and a lacking defense, but at this lofty total, a partial-unit play is all that’s justified. Back the OVER 167.6 (-115) nonetheless.
