NFL franchise tag deadline extended to Monday

The Steelers have a little extra time to decide about the franchise tag.

According to ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter, the deadline to allow teams to apply the franchise tag has been extended to Monday. This all centers around the vote on the new collective bargaining agreement. If the new CBA is ratified it would change the rules on the franchise tag as well as the transition tag and likely give each team something of a bump in salary cap space.

For the Pittsburgh Steelers, this could be very important if the team plans to place the franchise tag on outside linebacker Bud Dupree. Right now the Steelers are in tough shape as far as the salary cap so every dollar they can get the better.

It’s hard to imagine even with a bump to the cap that Pittsburgh can find a way to sign Dupree but the front office insists they want to do everything they can to keep Dupree a Steeler.
