Bryan Caraway facing multiple felony charges after alleged theft of Miesha Tate’s ATV

Former UFC bantamweight Bryan Caraway faces theft and insurance fraud charges following an alleged theft of ex-girlfriend Miesha Tate’s ATV.

Former UFC bantamweight [autotag]Bryan Caraway[/autotag] has been charged with multiple felonies following an alleged theft of a vehicle belonging to former girlfriend and ex-UFC champion [autotag]Miesha Tate.[/autotag]

It is alleged Caraway, 36, stole Tate’s ATV and purchased an insurance policy for the vehicle. Then, three days later, he allegedly filed an insurance claim, stating the vehicle had been stolen.

Caraway has been charged with forgery, first-degree attempted theft, filing a false insurance claim, and making a false statement on a vehicle application certificate of title. The charges were brought in Benton County, Wash., on Jan. 12. After Caraway failed to appear for a hearing in Benton County Superior Court, a warrant for his arrest was issued Feb. 4. Caraway was subsequently placed on Benton County’s insurance fraud most-wanted list until he eventually made contact with prosecutors.

A statement from the office of the insurance commissioner in Washington revealed the details of Caraway’s charges.

“According to the investigation, Caraway reported the theft of a 2015 Polaris RZR all-terrain vehicle from his property in Richland in December 2018,” the statement reads. “He bought a policy for it from GEICO on Dec. 21 and filed the claim on Dec. 24. He told GEICO that he bought the vehicle and contents, including helmets, a battery charger and spare tire, for $18,500 and provided a title showing his ex-girlfriend gifted it to him in January 2018.

“The investigation showed evidence that Caraway forged the title and that the vehicle was not in fact stolen but was owned by and in possession of the ex-girlfriend. Caraway withdrew the claim and GEICO referred the case to Kreidler’s CIU as required by state law.”

An arraignment hearing has been scheduled for March 11 in Benton County Superior Court.

Previously a contender in the UFC’s bantamweight division, 10-fight UFC veteran Caraway departed the promotion in May 2019 and competed once for Battlefield FC. He told MMA Junkie Radio in 2020 that he hoped to sign for a big promotion, saying, “I still feel like I’m a legitimate threat in the world in MMA, and I’m just waiting for a company out there to sign me.”

Caraway, a 10-fight UFC veteran, has opened a GoFundMe page to raise funds for his mother’s funeral. According to Caraway, he’s being putting in a very strenuous financial position as the impact from the coronavirus pandemic has filled up funeral homes and seemingly driven up prices.

He is attempting to reach a goal of $12,000, with more than $4,000 already being raised.

Caraway put his message out on social media, and detailed the challenges of his situation and how going to the public was his only option, despite a reluctance to o so (via Instagram):

:go fund me link on my page in Bio: or venmo @bryancaraway My mother passed away and the funeral homes are brutal. I had no idea how expensive they are and how much the gouge hurting people. My momma means the world to me and was the strongest/toughest person I know. She has a heart of gold and only saw the good in people. She was a mom to so many people and would give or do anything to help you. I'm completely devestated and can barely handle this. She did so much for every1 else I just want her to have the best memorial and celebrate her life. I absolutely hate posting this in every way and hate asking for help but if you can donate or share it would mean so so much to me. Thank you everyone I love you all. P.S. Also I'm selling pretty much everything or anything to pay but the funeral home wants and needs the money now. I'm also left in charge of taking care of my disabled dad and handicapped nephew.

Caraway, 35, has competed just once since his final UFC appearance in November 2018. He picked up a decision win at Battlefield FC 2 in July 2019, and has been on the sidelines since.

Fighting is obviously not the top priority for Caraway at the moment, though. He said in the statement that he must also tend to his “disabled dad and handicapped nephew” while trying to sort out the ordeal of giving his mother an appropriate send-off.

Off Guard: Bryan Caraway hopes to sign with big MMA promotion, still feels like ‘legitimate threat’

“I still feel like I’m a legitimate threat in the world in MMA, and I’m just waiting for a company out there to sign me.”

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Bryan Caraway[/autotag] is looking for a new home but in a major promotion.

Currently a free agent, Caraway (22-9) departed the UFC in 2018 after losing two in a row to Cody Stamann and Pedro Munhoz. Caraway then competed for South Korean-based promotion, Battlefield Fighting Championship last July, defeating Raja Shippen via unanimous decision.

However, Caraway said he never was paid his purse, joining UFC veterans Will Brooks and Gleison Tibau, who also competed on the card and never received any pay. He was then scheduled to face Marcos Breno at new Afro-French promotion ARES FC last December but was forced out due to injury.

Now healthy, WEC and UFC veteran Caraway, hopes to get the opportunity to sign with a major promotion, as he still views himself as an elite fighter.

He just needs the right stage to prove it.

“We’re looking to sign with a good promotion,” Caraway told MMA Junkie. “When I left the UFC, I was still top 15 in the world under their banner and just previously before that, I was like top 10 in the world for a long time, like almost four years. I still feel like I’m one of the top fighters in the world. I feel at 135 or 145, so I’m just looking for somebody out there to sign me.

“Any of the big companies, I’d love to fight for Bellator, ONE FC, Rizin, ACA, any of the promotions, PFL at 145, any of those promotions. I fight at 145, 135, wherever, man, I just want to fight top-level guys and get treated like a professional where I know I’m going to get paid.”

Caraway spent almost seven years with the UFC, starting his tenure on “The Ultimate Fighter.” He compiled a record of 6-4, with notable wins over Aljamain Sterling, Eddie Wineland and Mitch Gagnon.

“I still feel like I’m a legitimate threat in the world in MMA, and I’m just waiting for a company out there to sign me,” Caraway said. “I have almost 50 MMA fights, I’ve been around for a long time, and I can mix it up with the best. Grappling, striking, whatever. Just give me a chance.”
