Packers RT Bryan Bulaga (knee) returns to practice on Thursday

Starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga returned to Packers practice on Thursday, making it possible he’ll play Sunday against the Giants.

On Thanksgiving Day, the Green Bay Packers can be thankful for the unrivaled toughness of starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Bulaga – who left last Sunday’s loss in San Francisco with a knee injury – was back in pads and participating during the portion of Thursday’s padded practice open to the media.

Coach Matt LaFleur said Wednesday he wasn’t ready to rule out Bulaga for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. Thursday’s return to practice – even in a limited capacity – suggests Bulaga will have a legitimate chance to play on Sunday.

At the very least, Bulaga could be a game-time decision against the Giants based on how the knee responds to work this week. If he can’t go, the Packers could start second-year offensive tackle Alex Light or slide starting right guard Billy Turner out to tackle.

Light replaced Bulaga against the 49ers but struggled. Turner has past experience playing tackle and is ready to play there if needed.

Bulaga has started all 11 games for the Packers at right tackle this season.

The Packers will release an updated injury report later Thursday.

Packers not yet ruling out RT Bryan Bulaga (knee) for Sunday vs. Giants

It’s still possible the Packers will have Bryan Bulaga at RT against the Giants.

The Green Bay Packers aren’t yet ready to rule out starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga for Sunday’s matchup with the New York Giants.

Although coach Matt LaFleur said the team would take the week to figure out the best combination of starters for the offensive line, it’s possible Bulaga – who left Sunday night’s loss in San Francisco with a knee injury – will still factor into the equation.

“The goal is to put our five best out there, and we’ll take the week to figure that out,” LaFleur said Tuesday. “We’re going to go through the week of practice and see what combination works the best. I also wouldn’t rule Bryan out at this point.”

Bulaga got rolled up on from behind in the first quarter against the 49ers and didn’t return. The Packers believe he avoided a significant injury, which seems to be confirmed by LaFleur’s hope that Bulaga could still play against the Giants.

Second-year offensive tackle Alex Light replaced Bulaga on the right side against the 49ers. LaFleur kept the door open for the Packers shuffling the starters if Bulaga can’t go, suggesting right guard Billy Turner could slide out to right tackle against the Giants.

The Packers will release their first injury report of the week on Wednesday. LaFleur could give Bulaga the entire week to see if the knee responds well enough to play Sunday.

Packers leaving door open for Billy Turner to replace Bryan Bulaga at RT

The Packers didn’t commit Alex Light as the starting right tackle with Bryan Bulaga out with a knee injury.

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur didn’t commit to Alex Light replacing Bryan Bulaga as the starting right tackle with Bulaga out with a knee injury.

Although he didn’t specifically say it, LaFleur left the door open for starting right guard Billy Turner to slide out to right tackle until Bulaga, who sprained his knee on Sunday night, is back.

“We’ve got some other thoughts, potentially, to make sure we put our best five out there,” LaFleur said Monday.

Light replaced Bulaga in the first quarter of the Packers’ loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Bulaga got rolled up during a run play, left the game and didn’t return.

Light struggled to handle the 49ers edge rushers, especially first-round pick Nick Bosa. Overall, the 49ers had five sacks and 10 quarterback hits.

“I think there was some good (with Light). Overall, that was probably our worst game up front all season,” LaFleur said.

Having Turner play right tackle might give the Packers their best opportunity to put their best five offensive linemen on the field. If he moved out to tackle, Lucas Patrick – who has played in 35 games with six starts in his career – would likely play right guard.

The Packers experimented with Turner at right guard during training camp, possibly in preparation for any potential injury to Bulaga during the 2019 season.

Turner, who has started games at four different positions in his NFL career, started four games at right tackle for the Denver Broncos in 2018. He played left and right tackle at the North Dakota State University.

Report: Packers hopeful RT Bryan Bulaga avoided significant injury

The Packers believe Bryan Bulaga dodged a major injury, per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.

The Green Bay Packers are hopeful they’ve dodged a season-changing injury to their offensive line.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, the Packers believe right tackle Bryan Bulaga avoided a major injury to his knee during Sunday night’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Bulaga was injured after being rolled up on by tight end Robert Tonyan during a run play in the first quarter. He left the game and didn’t return.

The Packers replaced Bulaga with second-year offensive tackle Alex Light, who struggled mightily against the 49ers’ talented defensive front.

Demovsky described the injury as “week-to-week,” suggesting there might even be a chance for Bulaga to play next Sunday against the New York Giants.

Coach Matt LaFleur didn’t have an update on Bulaga’s status in the immediate aftermath of the 37-8 defeat.

The Packers have practiced rest and recovery with Bulaga all season in an effort to keep him healthy over the long haul. He started the team’s first 11 games and has played at a Pro Bowl level for much of the season.

The Packers placed offensive lineman Cole Madison on injured reserve on Saturday, opening a roster spot. It’s likely the Packers will need to use that spot to add another offensive tackle.

The Green Bay Packers will be without starting right tackle Bryan Bulaga for the rest of Sunday night’s game in San Francisco.

The team ruled out Bulaga after he suffered a knee injury in the first quarter against the 49ers, leaving backup Alex Light to handle the work at right tackle for the final three quarters.

Bulaga’s injury happened when he got rolled up on from behind by tight end Robert Tonyan on a run play. He was examined in the blue medical tent before walking back to the locker room.

Bulaga, 30, started the team’s first 11 games. When healthy, he’s one of the game’s best right tackles, but he’s struggled with major injuries throughout his career.
