Jeff Goodman continues to rank Auburn basketball too low

Jeff Goodman continues to be hard on Auburn basketball.

It’s way too early for polls to matter in the college basketball season but it’s still fun to look at.

National college basketball analyst Jeff Goodman ranks the top 25 teams in the country every single week. It took him a few weeks to even put Auburn in the top 25.

They have now cracked Goodman’s top 20.

He has Auburn at 19 after the Tigers big road win at St Louis on Saturday night. Goodman claimed that he is not high on the Tigers due to a lack of quality wins.

Auburn has been ranked in the low teens in the AP and coaches polls over the last two weeks.

Takeaways from Auburn basketball vs St Louis

This one was tough.

What a poorly officiated game.

Auburn defeats St. Louis 74-70 in St. Louis in a very oddly officiated game.

Give St. Louis credit, they fought hard and played well down the stretch. Yuri Collins is a legitimate point guard. But the Billikens were aided by the officiating crew in key moments. KD Johnson was mauled constantly and nobody batted an eye.

The Tigers defense needs work. As does the shot selection. There were issues exposed in this game that Auburn will be working on. Thank goodness Allen Flanigan is coming back.

Here are five takeaways from Auburn vs St. Louis.

Auburn basketball has now launched themselves into the top 15 of the AP poll following their win over Nebraska, and will now look to accomplish two more things over the next week.

Finish non-conference play strong, and get Allen Flanigan back on the court.

The Tigers (8-1) have three contests left in their non-con slate, with the first being today against North Alabama (6-3). Auburn is favored by quite a bit against the Lions and is expected to roll without head coach Bruce Pearl.

Allen Flanigan has returned to practice

THE RETURN OF THE KING

Auburn basketball‘s team leader is back.

Allen Flanigan has returned to practice after suffering a torn Achilles earlier this year, per Mark Murphy of 247 Sports. According to Murphy, Flanigan moved well in the non-contact practice held as Auburn prepares to take on Nebraska this Saturday.

Coach Bruce Pearl said he was hopeful that Flanigan would be ready to return by mid-December, and it looks like Flanigan will be able to do so.

He averaged 14.3 points per game in his sophomore season last year. He is the son of Auburn assistant coach Wes Flanigan.

Auburn takes on Nebraska on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. CST in Atlanta.

Maryland guy tries to get Bruce Pearl to leave Auburn

Shoot your shot, bro.

A ton of basketball programs want the type of success that Auburn has had over the past several years.

This includes a Maryland fan and former Terrapins 247 writer. His name is Jordan Gold.

Gold tweeted out on Friday that he was endorsing Bruce Pearl to be the next coach at Maryland. Good luck with that.

As expected, Auburn fans went after him in the replies and with quote tweets.

Pearl leaving for a better job could make sense but not Maryland. Also, not at this point of the season.

Keep Mr. Gold in your thoughts. His mentions on Twitter will be popping for a little bit.

Five takeaways from Auburn basketball’s win over UCF

Auburn earns a hard fought win over UCF. Here are the takeaways:

This was a much more physical, tough, and competitive game than the final score indicated.

No. 21 Auburn (6-1) defeated UCF (4-2) by a final score of 85-68 on a very chippy night in Auburn Arena.

These two teams clearly had some bad blood after the Tigers lost in Orlando to the Knights last season, a game where Auburn shot just 32.3% from the floor, 20.6% from three, and 36.4% from the free-throw line.

Tonight, it was Auburn’s turn to do the clamping. The Knights ended up shooting 35.6% from the floor and a poor 16.7% from three.

Here are five takeaways from the scrappy affair between Auburn and UCF.
