The Browns tried out 8 players on Friday

The Browns tried out 8 players on Friday in including 3 running backs and 3 offensive guards

Berea was buzzing with new bodies on Friday. The Cleveland Browns held tryouts for eight NFL free agents, including LB Reuben Foster.

Several of the names will likely ring a bell for college football fans. The emphasis was on running backs and offensive linemen, with three tryout players from each position.

The tryout players, in alphabetical order:

Ryquell Armstead, RB
Reuben Foster, LB
Brian Hill, RB
Tristen Hoge, G
Sam Jones, G
Artavis Pierce, RB
Josh Shaw, S
Chad Slade, G

None of the players were immediately signed. The Browns did place LB Anthony Walker on injured reserve in their only official transaction on Friday.

Browns try out several free agents at training camp

The Cleveland Browns had 5 free agents in for a tryout on Thursday

Browns general manager Andrew Berry continues to deliver on his promise of aggressively searching for talent. Berry and the Browns gave official tryouts to five free agents, per the NFL’s transaction wire.

The players who were in Berea for a tryout:

  • Thomas Leggett, S
  • Corey Taylor, RB
  • Ryan Willis, QB
  • Marlon Williams, WR
  • Ben Putnam, WR

None of the players have ever taken an NFL snap, and all but Willis are undrafted rookies. The Browns did not immediately sign any from the quintet.

Browns try out 2 OL and a CB during the bye week

CB Stephen Denmark fits the bill of athletic freakshow

The Browns held a tryout for three NFL free agents over the bye week. None of the players have been signed as of yet, though COVID-19 protocols effectively prevent instant signings.

The trio includes a player we here at Browns Wire liked in the 2019 pre-draft process. That would be Stephen Denmark, a cornerback from Valdosta State. The team worked out Denmark before that draft, in which he was selected in the seventh round by the Chicago Bears. He’s a physical traits wonder; at 6-foot-2 and 217 pounds, Denmark clocked a 4.4-second 40-yard dash at his pro day and posted a 43.5-inch vertical leap.

The other two who tried out are offensive linemen:

  • Cordel Iwuagwu OG TCU
  • Javon Patterson OC Mississippi

Browns hold tryouts for 6 players, visits for 2 others

All of the tryouts were with defensive players

Browns GM Andrew Berry continues to explore every opportunity to try and add talent to the roster he’s assembling in Cleveland. Fulfilling his oft-repeated promise from his press conference at the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine, Berry and the Browns held auditions for eight more players.

Six of the players were designated as tryouts per the NFL’s transaction wire, while two others were labeled visits.

The six tryouts were all on defense:

Jeremiah Dinson, S

Austin Hall, LB

Jalen Jelks, DE

Vosean Joseph, LB

Chris Miller, S

E.J. Scott, DT

The most notable is Joseph, a 2019 fifth-round pick by the Buffalo Bills out of Florida. None of the tryouts have any experience on an NFL regular-season active roster.

The visits included a kicker, Matthew McCrane, as well as LB Garrett Cale.

None of the players have been signed as of Tuesday morning.

Former Ohio State DE Noah Spence among Browns workouts

From the “what ever happened to that guy” files…

Monday was tryout day around the NFL, and the Cleveland Browns brought in several free agents. One of those names is a familiar one for college football fans around the midwest.

Former Ohio State pass rusher Noah Spence is the most prominent name among the tryouts. Spence was a second-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2016 after transferring from Ohio State to Eastern Kentucky after a series of failed drug tests. His NFL career has not gone well since bagging 5.5 sacks as a rookie. He was dumped by Washington earlier this month and has just two sacks in 25 games since 2016.

Other Browns tryouts included former CFL standout Terence Fede and former Lions starting DT Caraun Reid.
