Final Browns injury report for Week 12: Denzel Ward, Sheldrick Redwine ruled out

Final Browns injury report for Week 12: Denzel Ward, Sheldrick Redwine ruled out and 3 others questionable for game vs. Jaguars

The Cleveland Browns secondary will be depleted when the team heads to Jacksonville to face the Jaguars in Week 12. Starting cornerback Denzel Ward and safety Sheldrick Redwine have been ruled out with injury.

They are the only two Browns who were ruled out on the team’s final injury report of the week. Three other Browns are officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. Right guard Wyatt Teller (calf), backup center Nick Harris (ankle) and starting safety Andrew Sendejo (groin) are all questionable.

Teller was also questionable with the same injury in Week 11 but played through it. Sendejo only practiced on Friday as a limited participant after missing the rest of the week. Harris was a fresh addition to the injury report on Friday.

The Browns held out several players as precautionary measures this week due to the COVID-19 threat. None of those players carries any injury designation, and no players tested positive on Friday.

Browns have 20 players on the initial Week 12 injury report

20 players were given injury/illness designations at Wednesday’s practice

It’s almost easier to list the Cleveland Browns players who were able to practice on Wednesday than the ones who sat out for various reasons. A full 20 Browns made an appearance on the team’s initial injury report for Week 12.

The number is larger than the reality of the injury situation. Several players sat out for reasons not deemed to be injury-related. Those who missed for “not injury related reasons”:

  • CB Robert Jackson
  • RB Dontrell Hilliard
  • LB Elijah Lee
  • LB Jacob Phillips
  • WR Taywan Taylor
  • LB Malcolm Smith
  • CB Tavierre Thomas
  • LB Mack Wilson

Two other players, starting LT Jedrick Wills and reserve safety Jovante Moffatt, were held out with an undisclosed illness.

DT Larry Ogunjobi (ankle), S Sheldrick Redwine (knee) and S Andrew Sendejo (groin) were all out with injuries.

Several starters were limited with injuries, a list that includes CB Denzel Ward with his calf issue. Ward has already been ruled out for at least Week 12 and likely longer, though the team has yet to place Ward on injured reserve.

  • Center JC Tretter
  • LG Wyatt Teller
  • RT Jack Conklin
  • S Ronnie Harrison

Two other players were given an injury designation despite being full participants in Wednesday’s practice, which was held indoors due to rain. That group includes WR Jarvis Landry (hip) and CB Kevin Johnson (finger).

The injury list does not include the five Browns still on the reserve/COVID-19 list, which added LB Sione Takitaki on Wednesday. He will miss at least the Week 12 trip to Jacksonville.

Report: Denzel Ward to miss ‘a few weeks’ with calf strain

Ward is coming off a fantastic game vs. the Eagles

A report from Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network brings bad news for the Cleveland Browns. Per Garafolo, standout cornerback Denzel Ward is expected to miss “a few weeks” with a calf injury suffered in the Week 11 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ward had an MRI on Monday on the wounded calf. The team has yet to confirm the outcome of the MRI.

Ward played fantastic in the win, showing no ill effects of any calf issue. He broke up four passes, including a red zone interception that helped seal the victory. Ward also logged a QB pressure on Carson Wentz that forced a pick-six throw to LB Sione Takitaki.

The Browns have had bad luck with calf strains this season. Right guard Wyatt Teller missed four weeks with the same injury.

Browns safety Ronnie Harrison ruled out for the game

The Cleveland defense will be shorthanded when they take the field in the second half against the Philadelphia Eagles. Starting safety Ronnie Harrison has been ruled out of the rest of the game with a knee injury.

Harrison left the game in the first quarter after getting caught up in a tackle near the sideline. He immediately reached for his right knee but did amble off to the medical tent with minimal assistance.

After initially being ruled as questionable for a return, the Browns decided at halftime that Harrison was done for the day. Karl Joseph took over in his place.

Mack Wilson added to Browns injury report with a hip issue

Long snapper Charley Hughlett was back, as was center JC Tretter

There was a new name on the Cleveland Browns injury report following Thursday’s practice session. Linebacker Mack Wilson went from a full participant on Wednesday to missing all of Thursday.

Wilson was designed DNP with a hip injury. He did work with trainers on the side fields.

On the positive front, center JC Tretter did return to practice after getting a veteran rest day on Wednesday. In addition, long snapper Charley Hughlett was back in action. Hughlett was originally lumped in with the group of players placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, but he wound up not going on the list. After missing Wednesday’s session with the snafu, Hughlett was back and at full action.

Myles Garrett remained home with his illness. Coach Kevin Stefanski again indicated he expects the Pro Bowl DE back on Friday.

Nick Chubb still not activated but ‘hit all the benchmarks’ to play Sunday

Chubb can still be activated on Saturday

Nearly everyone around the Cleveland Browns expects Nick Chubb to play against the Houston Texans on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium, but the Pro Bowl running back’s status remains up in the air. The Browns have yet to activate Chubb from the injured reserve list even after Friday’s practice.

The club has designated Chubb for return, but he remains on the injured list entering the Week 10 weekend. That status could change on Saturday, after the team and Chubb see how he feels after practicing throughout the week.

“We wanted to use each one of these days to see how he responded each day,” coach Kevin Stefanski said after Friday’s final practice session. “He hit all the benchmarks, so it’s just a matter of making sure we’re all on the same page in making sure that he’s ready to go. If he’s ready, he’ll be out there. And if we feel like he’s not ready this week, then we’ll make that decision.”

The Browns have an opening on the active roster after offensive lineman Chris Hubbard was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Friday. They have not signed anyone else to take Hubbard’s spot as of press time, presumably keeping a spot open for Chubb.

Browns injury report: Wyatt Teller will play vs. Texans, Jacob Phillips questionable

Browns injury report: Wyatt Teller will play vs. Texans, Jacob Phillips questionable

The bye week did wonders for the health status of the Cleveland Browns. Heading into the Week 10 matchup with the Houston Texans, only one Browns player carries any injury designation and no players are ruled out in Friday’s final injury report.

Linebacker Jacob Phillips is listed as questionable with his lingering knee injury. The rest of the players who were limited in practices at various points in the week, including four of the five starting offensive linemen, will all play vs. the Texans without any injury designation.Notably, right guard Wyatt Teller will play after missing the last four games with a calf strain.

The list does not include RB Nick Chubb, who has yet to be officially activated from injured reserve. Coach Kevin Stefanski will make that determination after meeting with the team’s trainers following the conclusion of Friday’s work.

Wyatt Teller still limited in practice but ‘pray that I can be back’ in Week 10

Teller has been limited in practice both Wednesday and Thursday

The Cleveland Browns are anxious to get the run game back to full strength. Running back Nick Chubb has been designated for return from injured reserve, but he’s not the only missing piece.

Right guard Wyatt Teller has not played since Week 4 and he’s been missed too. Teller and his injured calf are progressing towards a return to the lineup. He’s been a limited participant in practices both Wednesday and Thursday in advance of Sunday’s matchup with the Houston Texans in Week 10.

His status for the game will not be determined before Friday’s practice. Teller is raring to play but understands it’s not his decision.

“I don’t want to give 100% [commitment] either way. It’s a process, right?” Teller said via Zoom this week. “But I pray that I can get back (playing Sunday).”

Teller suffered a Grade 2 calf strain in the Browns’ Week 4 win over the Indianapolis Colts. The way Teller described it sounds worse than it really is. As the right guard said, “the ligament came off the bone a little bit, but not fully.”

Browns injury report: 4 starting OL limited but all players active at practice

Browns injury report: 4 starting OL limited but all players active at practice

The Browns returned to the practice field on Wednesday to begin prep in earnest for Sunday’s matchup with the Houston Texans. In a pleasant development, every player on the active 53-man roster participated in at least some capacity.

Five players were limited with various ailments, however. Four of them are regular starters on the offensive line:

  • Left guard Joel Bitonio (elbow)
  • Right tackle Jack Conklin (knee)
  • Right guard Wyatt Teller (calf)
  • Center JC Tretter (knee)

Also limited was linebacker Jacob Phillips (knee), who has been battling the malady for weeks.

Defensive end Myles Garrett, who was banged up and negatively impacted in the Week 8 loss to the Raiders, is not listed on the injury report with the knee contusion he suffered in the game. Baker Mayfield was back at practice and also without any injury designation. He had been battling bruised ribs prior to the bye week.

Odell Beckham Jr. has successful ACL surgery, eying 2021 comeback in Cleveland

Beckham expects to be back on the field in Cleveland in 2021

Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left knee on Tuesday. The surgery, performed by Dr. James Andrews, was successful.

Beckham will now rehabilitate the knee with an eye towards getting back on the field in Cleveland without missing any time in 2021. He suffered the injury on the first passing play of the Browns’ Week 7 win over the Bengals while attempting to make a tackle on an interception return by Cincinnati’s Darius Phillips.

Beckham’s mom, Heather Van Norman, posted several times on her Instagram account from the surgical facility in Florida. “Surgery was a success. Thank you Dr. Andrews and Andrews Institute for treating my family like your own,” Van Norman wrote in one post.
