Watch: The Curious Case of Baker’s Shoulder

Watch: The Curious Case of Baker’s Shoulder with Brad Ward and Brian Scott

Cleveland Browns Baker Mayfield is reportedly going to practice in some capacity on Wednesday, according to Josina Anderson of NFL Network. Before the Browns 17-14 win over the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports came out with news on the condition of Mayfield’s shoulder. The report stated he had a fully torn labrum and a fractured humerus(shoulder) bone. Still there were reports that Mayfield was attempting to play this Sunday against the Steelers.

This raises a number of questions and we set out to answer them in an interview with Brian Scott, Host of ‘The Injured List’ podcast. The former athletic trainer and sports medicine expert joined me to break down Baker’s injury situation. We take a look at how he could possibly play with a fracture. What kind of fracture he likely has if he is trying to play with it? Can he do long-term damage? Will he need surgery? and much more… Enjoy!

Odell Beckham Jr. leaves Browns Week 6 game with a shoulder injury

Beckham injured his right shoulder in the 2nd quarter against the Cardinals

The Cleveland Browns are already without several key players due to injuries in Week 6, but they might have lost another. Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. left the field in the second quarter of Sunday’s matchup with the Arizona Cardinals with an apparent shoulder injury.

Beckham was tackled hard on his right shoulder after making a reception. He was in obvious pain on the bench area before entering the blue medical tent. After exiting the tent, Beckham was briskly escorted to the Cleveland locker room for further evaluation.

FOX Sports sideline reporter Laura Okmin noted that Beckham, “was screaming in pain” on the sideline. The Browns quickly listed Beckham as questionable to return to the game.

Browns LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah rushed to hospital with throat injury after loss to Chargers

A very physical game between the Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Chargers in Week 5 ended with one Browns player rushed to the hospital with a throat injury.

Browns rookie linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah was taken to a Los Angeles-area hospital via ambulance for further testing and observation of a throat contusion he suffered during the game. It is unclear when Owusu-Koramoah suffered the injury during the Browns’ 47-42 loss to the Chargers.

There is no word on if the team’s second-round pick will return to Cleveland with the team. Owusu-Koramoah had four tackles and a forced fumble in the game.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was also taken to the hospital following that team’s loss to the Green Bay Packers with the same injury.

Browns place WR Jarvis Landry on injured reserve

Landry will miss a few weeks with his sprained MCL

The Cleveland Browns will be without the services of wide receiver Jarvis Landry for a few weeks. The Browns placed Landry on injured reserve on Tuesday due to his sprained knee suffered early in Sunday’s win over the Houston Texans.

Landry will miss at least three games with his sprained MCL. He injured the knee on the second play of the game in Week 2 and did not return.

The Browns have a ready-made replacement already on the roster in Odell Beckham Jr., who has not yet played this season. Beckham is still returning from a knee injury suffered last October.

To take Landry’s place on the active 53-man roster, the Browns promoted Ifeadi Odenigbo from the practice squad.

Browns officially rule out WR Odell Beckham Jr. for Week 2

Beckham will sit out another week after Browns coach Kevin Stefanski rules him out for Week 2 vs. the Texans

The Odell Beckham Jr. return to action with the Cleveland Browns will have to wait another week. Head coach Kevin Stefanski declared the erstwhile starting wide receiver officially out for the Browns in their Week 2 matchup with the Houston Texans.

Beckham was inactive in Week 1 after being deemed questionable on the injury reports. He tore his ACL last October.

He has practiced at full speed but the Browns are still not quite comfortable enough with getting Beckham back into the lineup. This week, Stefanski preemptively ended the drama about if No. 13 will play or not by declaring him out in his press conference on Wednesday.

Donovan Peoples-Jones started in Beckham’s spot in Week 1, and the Browns also used speedy rookie Anthony Schwartz prominently in the outside receiver role too.

Browns elevate PK Chris Naggar, LB Elijah Lee from practice squad for Week 1

Kicker Chase McLaughlin is questionable so Naggar provides a backup plan

The Browns haven’t even played a single regular season game yet, but Cleveland is already on its third kicker due to injuries.

Due to the injury to placekicker Chase McLaughlin, the Browns have elevated PK Chris Naggar from the practice squad for the Week 1 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Browns also elevated LB Elijah Lee from the practice squad.

McLaughlin remains questionable with his hamstring injury, so elevating Naggar makes sense as an emergency backup option. Lee figures to get any of his action on special teams. The Browns, like all NFL teams, are permitted to call up two extra players from the practice squad without penalty.

Naggar is next in line after McLaughlin, who is already the injury replacement for Cody Parkey. The Browns placed Parkey on I.R. before the season.

8 Browns sit out preseason finale vs. Falcons due to injuries

The Browns ruled 8 players out due to injuries for Sunday night’s game in Atlanta

The Cleveland Browns took the unusual step of offering up a pre-game injury scratch list for Sunday night’s final preseason game in Atlanta. The Browns announced before the game that eight players are expected to sit out due to injury.

Teams are not required to file injury updates and reports like this for exhibition games, but there’s nothing wrong about transparency on why certain players sit out.

The eight players who will sit against the Falcons, none of which are surprises whatsoever:

  • S Grant Delpit (hamstring)
  • OL Michael Dunn (back)
  • LB Tony Fields (foot)
  • LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (forehead)
  • LB Jacob Phillips (biceps)
  • CB M.J. Stewart (hamstring)
  • LB Sione Takitaki (hamstring)
  • CB Greedy Williams (groin)

Odell Beckham Jr. takes his 1st full-speed team reps of training camp

It’s the first time since his ACL injury that Beckham has been a full-speed participant in team drills

The reality of Odell Beckham Jr.’s return to action took a big step forward on Thursday. The Browns wide receiver took his first full-speed team reps in practice, per several on-scene reports from Berea.

It’s the first time Beckham has been a full participant and worked with the first-team offense since tearing his ACL last October. Beckham has worked in individual drills and also played the role of a stand-in during team reps, but he had yet to work as an actual player in a full-speed team rep.

Beckham worked some in 7-on-7 passing drills on Wednesday and passed the test with his surgically repaired knee. He will not play in Cleveland’s preseason finale on Sunday night in Atlanta, but the progress puts him more on track to be on the field in Week 1.

Browns place kicker Cody Parkey on I.R.

Parkey heading to I.R. means that Chase McLaughin has won the kicking competition, at least for now

The kicking competition in Browns training camp has come to an unfortunate ending for Cody Parkey. Last year’s kicker in Cleveland has been placed on injured reserve with a quadriceps injury.

Because he’s heading to I.R. before the final 53-man roster is set, Parkey cannot return to the Browns active roster in 2021. He could accept an injury settlement and join another team later in the year, but his season in Cleveland is over.

Parkey nailed 19 of his 22 field goal attempts in 2020, with a long of 46 yards. He did miss four extra points, one of the worst figures in the league.

As a result of Parkey’s injury, Chase McLaughlin wins the placekicking job by default, at least for now. Coach Kevin Stefanski did not explicitly commit to McLaughlin, but he’s the only kicker on the roster. McLaughlin has made 22 of 28 career field goal attempts while playing for five different NFL teams in the last two seasons.

Grant Delpit, Jedrick Wills leave Browns practice early with injuries

The extent of the injuries is not yet known

Wednesday’s joint practice session with the New York Giants saw two prominent second-year Browns leave the field with injuries.

Left tackle Jedrick Wills and safety Grant Delpit, the Browns’ top two picks in the 2020 NFL draft, each left practice early on Wednesday. Wills limped off with an apparent leg injury, while Delpit aggravated the hamstring injury he’s been battling throughout training camp. Delpit left after the team drill portion of practice.

The extent of the injuries is unknown at this point, but it would be surprising to see either Wills or Delpit play in the preseason matchup with the Giants on Sunday afternoon. They each sat out the opener against Jacksonville, too.

On the positive side, rookie wide receiver Anthony Schwartz did participate in team drills. He had been idled with a hamstring injury.
