Cameron Jordan won’t go looking for a trade: ‘I’m black and gold forever’

Cameron Jordan won’t request a trade to chase a Super Bowl ring — and doesn’t feel he needs to. He wants to remain a New Orleans Saints lifer:

Myles Garrett has requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns, but don’t expect Cameron Jordan to follow suit. Garrett and Jordan are at two different points of their careers, but Kay Adams told the New Orleans Saints defensive end he was the first person Adams thought about when she heard the news.

Jordan questioned why, but didn’t let her answer before affirming: “I’m not asking for a trade from anywhere. I’m black and gold forever.”

This is a common sentiment from Jordan, so it may not seem out of the ordinary. However, he did consider forcing his way out during the regular season, so it was refreshing to hear him express this.

So why did Adams think about Jordan in relation to Garrett’s trade request. Adams said the reasons for wanting out would be the same, and she has a point. Garret is in his prime, while Jordan has more time behind him than in front of him.

Players in both categories would want to be in best position to win a ring now, due to an understanding their window could close soon in different ways.

If you ask Jordan, he is in the best place to win a ring. Injuries were costly in 2024. New Orleans lost their entire interior offensive line. By the time Spencer Rattler was leading the team, he was dealing with makeshift weapons and a pieced-together offensive line.

Without these injuries, Jordan still sees the Saints as a championship team. With a healthy roster, they’re better than 5-12, but it’s hard to say championships are on the horizons when they’ve missed the playoffs four years in a row.

Jordan has always been an optimist. That optimism was on full display with Adams, and if he has his way he’ll continue to be the optimist in the New Orleans locker room as his career draws to a close.

Could Chiefs swap Chris Jones for Myles Garrett after Super Bowl LIX?

Could the #Chiefs look to trade fan-favorite DL Chris Jones for reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett after Super Bowl LIX?

The Kansas City Chiefs have a chance to complete the NFL’s first-ever championship three-peat with a win over the Philadelphia Eagles on February 9, but the future of the team’s dynasty will need to be reevaluated in the offseason.

To maintain the unfathomable level of success that Kansas City has achieved over the last seven seasons, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach will have to think outside of the box and make shrewd maneuvers to ensure his team can continue competing for Super Bowl titles.

One option Veach may have would be to explore a trade for Cleveland Browns pass-rusher Myles Garrett, who formally requested a trade on Monday ahead of Super Bowl LIX:

According to Browns Wire editor Cory Kinnan, any potential pick-for-player trade for Garrett would have to involve at least two first-round selections, and would likely look a lot like the deal that sent Khalil Mack from the then-Oakland Raiders to the Chicago Bears in 2018.

However, one option Kansas City might consider is sending star defensive tackle Chris Jones to Cleveland in exchange for a less valuable package of picks to land Garrett.

In such a scenario, the Chiefs could be expected to give up Jones, a first-round pick, and a second or third-round pick swap to land Garrett.

Seahawks flying Saints OC into town for a second, in-person interview

The Seahawks Seahawks are flying Saints OC Klint Kubiak into town for a second, in-person interview. It’s looking more and more likely he won’t be returning next season:

Stay frosty: New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is flying out to meet in person with Seattle Seahawks brass on Friday, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. This will be Kubiak’s second interview with Seattle after he previously met with them virtually.

He’s also spoken with the Cleveland Browns, who opted to promote from within, so Kubiak’s services are clearly in demand. Because this would be a lateral move the Saints could have chosen to block an interview with the Seahawks and any other team interested in having Kubiak calling plays in 2025. But they’ve given him the green light to pursue other opportunities and likely won’t stand in his way.

That suggests other offensive play callers like Joe Brady and Kliff Kingsbury could be real candidates for the Saints’ head coaching job. We’ll see how things develop on both fronts in New Orleans and Seattle, but it’s looking more and more likely that Kubiak won’t be returning to the Saints next season. The Saints are scheduled to play an away game with the Seahawks at Lumen Field in 2025.

Klint Kubiak could have a new home in 2025, but it won’t be this AFC team

The Cleveland Browns have decided to go with a different coach at offensive coordinator leaving Klint Kubiak looking towards the Seahawks

Klint Kubiak has interviewed with two teams so far this offseason, the Seattle Seahawks and the Cleveland Browns. He sat down with the Browns on Monday, and reports say Cleveland announced their going in a different direction Tuesday afternoon.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports Cleveland has promoted Tommy Rees to a new post as their offensive coordinator, which leaves just Seattle on the table. Kubiak’s meeting with the Seahawks was Tuesday.

Kubiak led the New Orleans Saints offense to a hot start, and Alvin Kamara had his best rushing season of his career. The offense showed more creativity with rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler in games. That may have been a product of his mobility or trying to compensate for Rattler’s inexperience. Either way, it’s on tape.

With the Saints bringing in a new head coach, it is a smart move for Kubiak to keep his options open.

New Orleans could hire an offensive minded head coach, which would immediately displace him. Even if New Orleans doesn’t hire an offensive-minded coach, they could move on from Kubiak.

Kubiak is smartly operating proactively. However, with one job down, his faith is being laced in the Seahawks. If he doesn’t get that job, he may have to work his way back up to the coordinator ranks.

Saints play caller Klint Kubiak schedules another OC interview

The Saints have made it clear Klint Kubiak is free to pursue other opportunities. He’s scheduled OC interviews with two teams this week:

Though he is still under contract with the New Orleans Saints, offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is starting to pick up steam with other teams.

After interviewing with Cleveland Browns on Monday, Kubiak will meet with the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday. Going to either team would be a lateral move, as both interviews are for offensive coordinator positions.

The 37-year-old has been learning from top football minds for a long time. His father, Gary Kubiak, needs no introduction. He also stems from the Shanahan tree.

He was a popular name before taking the Saints job this past season. There were even head coach murmurs after the red-hot start to the year. The rest of New Orleans’ season was nowhere nearly as exciting on offense. It doesn’t look as though it is being held too harshly against him.

With a new incoming head coach, the offensive system could be changing anyway. The Saints have signaled they won’t push back if someone tries to sign him away.

Browns interviewing Saints offensive coordinator for a lateral move

The Cleveland Browns are interviewing New Orleans Saints OC Klint Kubiak for what would be a lateral move. The Saints just might be preparing to clean house:

New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is interviewing with the Cleveland Browns on Monday, per Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, for what would be a lateral move. The Saints would have given Kubiak permission to speak with the Browns and other teams interested in hiring him as their offensive play caller (like the Seattle Seahawks), which signals that they’ll let a new head coach build his own staff. It could mean a full housecleaning is coming for New Orleans.

Kubiak’s offense made some strides last season even while dealing with critical injuries at every position group, but it wasn’t the complete reversal some fans had hoped for. The Saints scored just 338 points in the 17-game 2024 season, which ranked 24th among the NFL’s 32 teams and made for their third-worst scoring output since league expansion back in 2002. The regular season schedule only had 16 games until 2021.

We’ll see how this interview goes for Kubiak. He has a lot of experience working with Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, having been on staff together with the Minnesota Vikings for many years. But they won’t be his only option to keep coaching in 2025, either.

2 49ers opponents to play international games in 2025

Could the 49ers be headed to England?

The San Francisco 49ers could be headed across the Atlantic to play a game in the 2025 season.

According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, the NFL on Friday announced the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars will all play international games next season. The Jets and Browns will play at Tottenham Stadium, while the Jaguars will be at Wembley. Dates and times will be announced with the NFL schedule sometime in May.

Pelissero also noted the NFL can schedule up to eight international games, and that Madrid and Berlin will both host games in 2025. That leaves the door open for other opportunities for the 49ers to go overseas, although teams for those games haven’t been announced.

San Francisco is slated to play against the Jaguars and Browns next year, putting them in the mix to play in one of those London games.

However, it’s likely the teams announced Friday will be the home team in those matchups, which takes the Jaguars off the table. The 49ers are scheduled to host Jacksonville at Levi’s Stadium.

Their matchup against Cleveland remains in play though since that’s a road game for the 49ers. The Browns got onto San Francisco’s schedule by way of both teams finishing last in their respective divisions.

The 49ers haven’t played an international game since 2012 when they faced the Jaguars at Wembley. That year they rolled the Jags 42-10.

With what projects as a weak schedule, the 49ers may be subjected by the NFL to an international trip, particularly since San Francisco has a strong following in England.

Report: Saints coach ‘a name to keep an eye on’ in Browns OC search

A new report links New Orleans Saints coach Klint Kubiak to the Browns offensive coordinator search. We can’t rule out a lateral move with a new head coach coming in:

A new report linked New Orleans Saints coach Klint Kubiak to the Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator search, with The MMQB’s Albert Breer suggesting Kubiak is a candidate “to keep an eye on” with Cleveland gearing up to find Ken Dorsey’s replacement.

We can’t rule out a lateral move with a new head coach coming in. The Saints would probably like to keep Kubiak on staff after he modernized the offense Pete Carmichael carried over from Sean Payton, but whoever they hire to replace Dennis Allen may not feel the same way. If their new head coach — whoever they may be — has a new vision for the offense, Kubiak may not be part of it. At the same time, Kubiak himself could be a candidate; he has an endorsement from Drew Brees for the job.

So it’s something to watch in the days and weeks ahead. Injuries hammered the Saints at every position group this season, but Kubiak’s unit finished the regular season ranked near the middle of the pack in yards per play (5.3), a marginal improvement over their 2023 pace (5.1). They were a bottom-10 offense in points scored (338, after finishing top-10 the season before at 402) and while the run game greatly improved to 4.4 yards per carry over last year’s second-worst rate of 3.6, it was hardly the dominant force we expected. We can’t overlook their bottom-5 showing on third downs, either (35.2%). Kubiak could very well return to the Saints in 2025, but this report at least suggests he has other options.

Saints expected to meet with former Titans coach Mike Vrabel next week

The Athletic reports the New Orleans Saints are expected to meet with Mike Vrabel next week. The former Titans coach has a strong resume:

The New Orleans Saints are looking to expand on their head coaching search next week as they’re expected to meet with former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, per The Athletic’s Diana Russini.

Vrabel has already sat down with the New York Jets thus far and is also expected to speak with the Chicago Bears in the near future as well. Vrabel is one of the most highly regarded coaches in this year’s hiring cycle, as he comes with experience and previous success as a head coach.

This past year, Vrabel spent time with the Cleveland Browns as a consultant after being dismissed by Tennessee at the end of last season. In Vrabel’s six years with the Titans, he posted a record of 54-45 reaching the playoffs three straight times from 2019 to 2021. During his tenure, Vrabel was also awarded AP Coach of the Year in 2021 as he led his team to a 12-5 regular season record, securing the number one seed in the AFC.

As a defensive minded coach, Vrabel’s 3-4 scheme would be a transition for the Saints who ran a traditional 4-3 front under Dennis Allen. In Vrabel’s head coaching career, his defense ranked top-15 in points per game in four out of his six seasons on the job.

With an impressive resume as a culture builder and proven success on his side of the ball, Vrabel would likely be one of the better hires that the Saints could make this offseason. Let’s see if he and the Saints can schedule an interview and formally get this process started.

Former AFC coach is now available to interview for Saints HC job

Mike Vrabel’s contract with the Cleveland Browns has expired, and if they’re smart, he should be one of the first names the Saints bring in to interview:

The New Orleans Saints are in need of a head coach. New Orleans replaced Dennis Allen with Darren Rizzi, but it’s clear the team must search outside the building for their next head coach.

One of the candidates the Saints have been linked to is Mike Vrabel, and they now have the green light to interview him. After being the head coach of the Tennessee Titans (with whom he achieved a 54-45 record), Vrabel joined the Cleveland Browns as a consultant. His contract with the Browns was a one-year deal that expired on Monday. He can now interview with teams.

The New York Jets are another team to have reported interest in the former Titans head coach, so the Saints won’t be running unopposed. Vrabel is expected to be a hot commodity, so the field will grow beyond just New York and New Orleans.

As the Saints conduct an hopefully thorough search, Vrabel should be high on the list and one of the first names the Saints bring in.
