Social Media reactions after Demani Richardson, Brian George targeting expulsions

Texas A&M has kicked off its primetime all-important matchup with the 13th-ranked Miami Hurricanes, and the Aggies lead the Hurricanes 10-3 at halftime after what has been a defensive battle so far, with running back LJ Johnson busting through the goal line to score the only touchdown of the game  as it stands.

Sadly, controversy has already reared its ugly head for the Aggies after two targeting calls have expelled starting strong safety Demani Richardson and starting cornerback Brian George.

Both calls, from my perspective at least, were questionable after review, although Brian George lowered the crown of his helmet in a much clearer view, while Demani’s hit heard around the world was more of a question mark from a targeting sense.

As this close game unfolds, here are the top reactions to Demani Richardson and Brian George’s suspensions due to targeting:

Texas A&M Player Profile: Defensive Back, Brian George

Going into the 2022 football season, Aggies Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas A&M roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Jimbo Fisher this season.

Brian George was one of the premier JUCO signings for Jimbo Fisher in the 2020 class, bringing experience and needed depth to a position that at the time needed an infusion of talent. George grew up in South Bay, Florida, and played football at Glades Central High School, but was under-recruited at the time and opted to attend Highland Community College in Highland, Kansas for two seasons. As he continued to develop at the corner position and produce on the field, the offers started to roll in after his 2019 sophomore season from programs such as Auburn, Alabama, and of course, Texas A&M.   George committed to the Aggies on Dec. 17, 2019, and began his junior 2020 season with the team the following fall. During that season, George made 2 starts in 10 total appearances, making his first start against Tennesee in Knoxville where he made 4 total tackles, and his second start in the Orange Bowl against North Carolina, in which he made three total tackles and 1 pass break up. During his first senior season during the 2021 season, George earned one of the starting cornerback spots with the Aggies, yet George only appeared in 5 games while starting the first 4 and producing 10 total tackles before sustaining an injury that would shut him down for the rest of the season.

Depth Chart Overview

Brian George is currently listed as a reserve cornerback in the defensive back rotation in Texas A&M’s 4-2-5 defensive scheme, led by the first-year defensive coordinator, D.J. Durkin. George is slated as the backup to starting cornerback Tyreek Chappell (Sophomore) and will most likely share snaps with veteran cornerback Myles Jones (Grad Student). Before his injury during the 2021 season, Brian George was one of the more reliable corners for Texas A&M due to his size and vertical speed in coverage and was beginning to show his worth as a consistent tackler in the first five games of the season. As I’ve stated before, the experience and overall talent of this defensive back group are otherworldly at this point, and it’s going to be very interesting to see how it plays out when the final depth chart is announced.
