Jaguars request interview with Vikings DC Brian Flores for HC vacancy

The Jacksonville Jaguars are the third team to request an interview with Brian Flores to become their new head coach.

Brian Flores told reporters on Tuesday that he plans to take every head coaching interview that comes his way. At the time, it was reported that the New York Jets and Chicago Bears had requested interviews with him. He now has another interview awaiting.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they have requested an interview with the Vikings’ defensive coordinator. Doug Pederson was fired on Monday after spending three years as the Jaguars’ head coach.

Flores is one of the most intriguing candidates in the head coaching cycle. He has transformed the Vikings’ defense into one of the league’s best in two years and complements Kevin O’Connell’s aggressiveness on offense.

But he’s currently in the middle of a discrimination lawsuit against the NFL that stemmed from his time as the Miami Dolphins head coach from 2019-2021, as well as interviews in 2022 with the Denver Broncos and New York Giants.

He must also show he has grown since his time as Miami’s head coach. Tua Tagovailoa called Flores a “terrible human being” in August, raising questions about Flores’ ability to work with the sport’s most important position. Has his time around O’Connell helped him evolve in culture- and relationship-building?

Still, this is progress for Flores. He didn’t receive a single interview in the 2024 off-season after improving the Vikings’ defense from the 31st-ranked unit in 2022 to the 16th-ranked unit in his first year as defensive coordinator. He has many hurdles to clear, but his success can’t be ignored.

Jaguars request head coaching interview for Vikings DC Brian Flores

The Jaguars announced that they have requested an interview from Vikings’ DC Brian Flores for their head coaching role.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they’ve requested to interview Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores for their head coaching opening.

Flores has been the Minnesota defensive coordinator for the last two seasons. During the 2024 season, the Vikings’ defense has been one of the stingiest in the NFL, ranking fifth in points per game and 10th in yards per play allowed.

The calling card of the Flores’ defense is his aggressiveness, with the Vikings’ blitzing at the highest rate in football and from all parts of the field. Opposing coaches have also praised Flores for his ability to disguise those pressures as well.

Flores was a head coach for the Miami Dolphins from 2019-2021–a tenure that came to a rocky ending. He has a record of 24-25 over those three seasons, with a 10 win season in 2020 and a nine win season in 2021.

Flores is now one of nine coaches that the Jaguars have requested for interviews. As of now, it has been reported that Robert Saleh and Aaron Glenn have accepted their requests.

According to ESPN, Flores said recently that he would take every interview request.

Brian Flores’ four-word answer on interviewing for Patriots job

Brian Flores would be open to coming back to New England

Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores commented on the New England Patriots head coach opening.

Flores got his coaching start with the Patriots organization as a special teams assistant. He worked his way up the ladder, becoming the linebackers coach and defensive play-caller. After winning Super Bowl LIII with New England, Flores then went on to serve as the head coach for the Miami Dolphins from 2019-2021.

Like Mike Vrabel, he has deep ties with the Patriots organization. There’s also a clear link to the community as well considering he went to Boston College.

“I would say yes,” Flores said, when asked if he was interested in interviewing for the Patriots head coaching job, via ESPN’s Kevin Seifert. “…It’s not up to me.”

Flores would undoubtedly bring a strong defensive mind to a Patriots team that greatly regressed in that area last season. More than anything, he’d bring experience to a coaching staff that lacked enough of it in 2024.

NFL analyst sees Vikings-Rams Wild Card matchup as a toss-up

Tyler Brooke of The 33rd Team talked about Minnesota’s playoff matchup and discussed the possibility of an upset occurring for the Vikings.

The NFL Wild Card round is upon us and while Vikings fans hoped they wouldn’t be watching their team, the Lions had other plans. Coming off a disappointing season finale performance in Detroit, the Vikings have a lot to prove against the Rams.

Tyler Brooke of The 33rd Team talked about Minnesota’s playoff matchup and discussed the possibility of an upset occurring for the Vikings. This is a rematch of a matchup we have already seen this season and he discusses what makes this game so close despite the previous viewing of it.

Brooke gives the Vikings credit for their coaching staff building such a complete team writing, “Kevin O’Connell and Brian Flores have built up one of the best complimentary football teams in the league.” All season long Vikings teams have enjoyed watching this team build momentum for each side of the ball and allowing for them to remain fresh as a result.

For the Rams, Brook also gives their offense credit but worries about the defense. He writes, “For as talented as their defense is, the Rams are so young on that side of the ball that the lack of playoff experience could lead to some mental lapses.”

While he ranks the game as a 5 out of 10 on the upset charts, he does believe the Vikings offense to be the difference maker in the end.

“. . .the Vikings’ offensive attack is simply too balanced to be on full-on upset watch.”

NFC North division rival requests interview with Brian Flores

The Chicago Bears have requested an interview with Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores regarding their vacant head coach position.

According to Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears have requested an interview with Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores regarding their vacant head coach position. Flores was expected to be interviewed for head coaching opportunities this offseason, but one coming from a division rival is always a surprise.

The Bears are recognizing coaching talent within their division. Adam Schefter reports that the Bears want to interview Flores and have also requested interviews with the Lions’ Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn.

As for Brian Flores, this marks the second interview he has been requested for on Monday. Earlier in the day, the New York Jets submitted a request for him to interview with them for their open head coaching spot. The Jets would create quite the storyline as it would put him back in the division with the team he coached prior, the Miami Dolphins.

The storyline would also be entertaining if he were to land the Bears job, considering the same joke would apply.

Jets request interviews with two Vikings assistants for HC job

Less than 24 hours after their final game of the regular season, two Vikings assistants have already been about the Jets hC vacancy.

Whenever a team like the Minnesota Vikings has a season where they go 14-3, you can expect some of their coaches to be interviewed for head coaching vacancies. Less than 24 hours after their final game of the regular season, two Vikings assistants have already been contacted.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that both defensive coordinator Brian Flores and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown have been requested to interview for the Jets head coaching vacancy.

Brian Flores led a Vikings defense that saw them become one of the best defenses in the NFL. Their high-pressure rate and turnover rate went up in 2024 and were a major part of their success.

Josh McCown helped coach both rookie J.J. McCarthy during the preseason and veteran Sam Darnold all year long. McCarthy looked good in his lone preseason appearance, while Sam Darnold emerged as an MVP candidate.

No timetable has been set for their interviews as the Vikings visit the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs.

Vikings land defensive piece for Brian Flores in latest 2025 NFL mock draft

A recent 2025 NFL Mock Draft has the Minnesota Vikings landing a defensive player that would fit great in Brian Flores’ defense.

Although the NFL playoffs are quickly approaching us, that doesn’t mean that it’s too early to look ahead at the 2025 NFL draft. This week, Travis May of AtoZSports released a three-round mock draft.

Due to the trades that helped land Dallas Turner last year, the Minnesota Vikings are only slated for one pick through the first three rounds. But May believes the Vikings could land a valuable defensive piece at the end of the first round.

He has them drafting East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. at pick 30. May believes that Revel has the talent to go high in the first round, but the ACL tear he sustained earlier this season will slide him down the board. Here is May’s full write-up of the selection.

Shavon Revel Jr. is a long lean cover cornerback with tons of athletic upside, but the early-mid first projections are probably a bit too optimistic for a Group of Five Conference defender who will miss all of NFL Draft season due to a torn ACL. However, he’s too good a value to let drop out of round one completely as the Vikings hope to bolster their leaky secondary that’s surrendered the fourth most passing yards in the NFL so far this season.

The Vikings will certainly look to get younger at cornerback this offseason. Stephon Gilmore (34) and Shaq Griffin (29) were signed to one-year deals this season. Although they have played well, their age and physical limitations have sometimes held Brian Flores back in terms of how much man coverage he can run.

Revel has the size (6’3″, 193 pounds) and cover ability (PFF gave him coverage grades of 84.7 and 85.2 over the past two seasons) that would fit perfectly in Flores’ scheme. He’s a name to keep an eye on as the draft approaches.

5 takeaways from the Vikings win over the Bears on Monday Night

The Minnesota Vikings had a lot to play for, and they put their foot to the floor and never let up after a strong first half. Brian Flores had Caleb Williams in pieces mentally from the pressure and coverage they were giving him. On offense, Kevin O’Connell and Wes Phillips used a trial-and-error approach before finding some footing.

Either way, you look, the tone was set in the first quarter, and the Vikings never looked back as the Bears had no chance.

The Bears were held scoreless in the first half, and in the second half, they could never find the endzone. The Vikings played for a lot on Monday Night, and they delivered for everyone from Randy Moss to their fans.

Here are five takeaways from the one-sided meeting between the Vikings and Bears on Monday night.

Brian Flores saw what the Bears and Caleb Williams gave him in their first matchup, and he must have said to himself, “That is not happening again.” He shut out the Bears offense in the first half and smothered them in pressures all game. He also dominated them on third down and was able to force turnovers to leave Caleb Williams and this offense feeling lost from the first whistle. Flores is in his bag right now, and the Vikings will be lucky to keep him on staff in 2025.

When Brian O’Neill left the game, we saw the pressure immediately come from the Bears’ front seven. The team cannot overcome an injured Brian O’Neill this late in the season, so it is paramount that if he does miss time, they figure something out. Whether it be they line up Johnny Mundt or Nick Muse on that edge to help David Quessenberry out or give Sam Darnold more safety valves. Either way, this offensive line has proven to be more important than the quarterback because without one you can’t have the other.

Both members of the turnover dance duo, Camryn Bynum and Josh Metellus, are set to be free agents in 2025. The Vikings can afford one high-price safety, but can they afford two? Metellus is playing at a Pro Bowl level in 2024, and his versatility only increases his value. It will be interesting to see how he performs down the stretch because he is getting paid, but by whom?

The Brian Flores defense came into Week 15, leading the NFL with a 39% blitz rate. That aggressive defense allows for the offense to be aggressive. The defense is forcing turnovers and stopping teams on third downs, and when you have that, the offense can take more chances. The Vikings went for it more on fourth down; they are pushing the ball down the field, and being able to do those things against the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles can make a difference in those expected playoff matchups.

The offense struggled in the first half and into the third, but everything settled down once they started leaning on Aaron Jones. They were using him at running back, receiver, and even tight end in certain alignments including one that saw him convert a third and 16 on a run after the catch. Sam Darnold is great, the wide receivers are elite, and they have a top five tight end but it is the veteran running back who makes all the difference in the world for this offense.

Dan Graziano hints Brian Flores may have a hard time getting a HC job

With just five weeks to go in the season, the heat is rising on a potential Brian Flores departure for a head coaching position—or is it?

Brian Flores’s work with the Vikings defense in 2024 is among the best of any coach in the NFL. That unit’s play played a big role in the team’s 10-2 record as they head into Week 14.

With just five weeks to go in the season, the heat is rising on a potential Brian Flores departure for a head coaching position—or is it?

Dan Graziano of ESPN discussed the potential of Flores leaving for a head coaching job this week. However, one obstacle that teams may have in giving him that role is his ongoing lawsuit with the NFL for discrimination.

“t’s tough to say with Flores, because of that lawsuit. I know the Giants liked him a lot when they hired Brian Daboll three years ago, but the extent to which the Giants’ process was implicated in the lawsuit rubbed that organization the wrong way. . .I think Flores is a good and interesting candidate on several levels, but you’re right. The questions surrounding him are very specific and could be tough obstacles for him to overcome in this cycle.”

While everyone wants to see people get the best opportunities, Flores’s return wouldn’t be the worst thing for the Vikings. The defense and their playmakers are under contract for at least another year, which would give him more time to strengthen his case for a head coaching job.

Brian Flores expecting the ‘best’ version of Kirk Cousins in Week 14

Despite their recent run, Brian Flores and the Vikings defense expect a good Falcons and Kirk Cousins on Sunday.

The Minnesota Vikings have to be excited to welcome a familiar face to U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Kirk Cousins and his new Atlanta Falcons come into town with a 6-6 record and coming off three straight losses.

Despite their recent run, Brian Flores and the Vikings defense expect a good Falcons and Kirk Cousins on Sunday.

When speaking to the media on Tuesday, the Vikings defensive coordinator was asked about their former quarterback. Flores shared, “He’s played some good football, I think the people in this building know what Kirk can do.”

Flores was asked a follow-up question about Cousins’s coming off his worst game of the year, in which he threw four interceptions, and he gave a simple response.

“He’s a bounce-back type of guy, I’m expecting his best.”

Prior to their recent run, Cousins has thrown 13 touchdowns to three interceptions over his last five games for the Falcons. The Vikings will have their work cut out for them, have no doubt about it.
