Milwaukee Brewers at Cleveland Indians odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Sunday’s Milwaukee Brewers at Cleveland Indians sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Milwaukee Brewers (18-20) and Cleveland Indians (24-15) meet Sunday afternoon at 1:10 p.m. ET to put a lid on a three-game series at Progressive Field. Below, we analyze the Brewers-Indians MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Brewers at Indians: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Brett Anderson vs. RHP Shane Bieber

Anderson owns a 4.18 and 1.36 WHIP through a half-dozen starts. The 32-year-old southpaw has been a more efficient strike-thrower in 2020 and has gone six innings in two of his last three starts.

  • Has logged first-pitch strikes in a career-high 68% of plate appearances (59% last season).
  • Owns an abbreviated-but-effective line against current Indians bats (.660 OPS against, .065 ISO against).

Bieber has been sensational for the Tribe, clocking in with a 1.20 ERA and 0.82 WHIP over 8 starts. The Cleveland right-hander is in a dominant groove in his third MLB season. He’s missing bats at an 18.5% clip; that’s a rate that puts him in the top-2% of MLB pitchers.

  • Has given the Indians at least six innings in every start this season. Enters Sunday’s turn having allowed just 14 hits and 2 earned runs over his last 25 IP.

Moneyline (ML)

Sunday’s tilt is the rubber game of this series. The Brewers took Friday’s opener; the Indians countered with a walk-off win Saturday. Milwaukee’s lineup is bottom-5 in several categories, and the Brewers struggle against righties. Overall, Milwaukee owns a minus-30 run differential; that figure pegs the Brewers as more of a .420 team, not the near-.500 percentage the team has posted to date (an 8-3 mark in one-run games is a primary culprit).

Dig deeper on the Tribe’s woes against port-siders (.624 OPS), and you’ll find a .265 BABIP and a low home run rate on fly balls.

Bieber has been priced as a -225-or-better starter 11 times over 2019-20. Cleveland is 8-3 over those contests. The INDIANS (-250) come at a hefty tag, but it’s a fair one.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

INDIANS -1.5 (-110) is a solid play. Cleveland is 23-16 against the run line; Milwaukee is 14-24. Since last year’s all-star game, the Brewers have logged six get-away-day defeats of six runs or more. Three of those have been this season.

Over/Under (O/U)

There should be pressure on the upside of this number-and-price combination. Grab the profit margin beforehand: take the OVER 7 (-110).

Woodruff: 2-3 with a 3.67 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 10.4 K/9 and 2.6 BB/9 in 41 2/3 IP over 8 starts.

Prediction

Indians 5, Brewers 2

Moneyline (ML)

We are getting a nice price for the Indians (-118) because they lost 7-1 to the Brewers (+105) Friday. Milwaukee’s lineup is bottom-5 in several categories and Cleveland’s pitching staff is one of baseball’s best.

Left-handed batters have a 45-point higher batting average and a 51-point higher on-base percentage against Woodruff and Cleveland’s first four batters are switch-hitters. The Indians have better numbers against righties and the Brewers hit worse against right-handed pitchers.

I “LIKE” INDIANS (-118). New to sports betting? A $118 bet on the Indians (-118) earns a $100 profit if Cleveland can beat Milwaukee.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The run line splits are inspiring enough to look at the alternate line of INDIANS -1.5 (+170). Cleveland has the fifth-best run line record (23-15 RL) and Milwaukee is tied with the Texas Rangers with the worst RL record (13-24 RL). The hope is that the top of Cleveland’s order gets to Woodruff early before he settles in and the Indians coast to a victory.

Let’s make a lighter wager, mostly to maximize the profit of betting Cleveland in this spot. A $50 bet on Indians -1.5 (+170) earns an $85 profit if Cleveland wins by two or more runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

While Milwaukee’s lineup has struggled this season, Cleveland is right down there in the bottom-5 of several hitting categories. The Under is 3-0-2 in the last five meetings and Cleveland has the 2nd-highest Under percentage in MLB (31%).

Since we are on the Indians pretty heavily, we are hoping for them to rake against Milwaukee’s pitching staff and I’ll PASS ON THE TOTAL OF 7.5 RUNS.

Milwaukee Brewers at Cleveland Indians odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s Milwaukee Brewers at Cleveland Indians sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Milwaukee Brewers (17-19) and Cleveland Indians (23-14) open a three-game weekend series with a 7:10 p.m. ET contest Friday night at Progressive Field. Below, we analyze the Brewers-Indians MLB betting odds and lines, with picks and best bets.

Brewers at Indians: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Corbin Burnes vs. RHP Carlos Carrasco

Burnes owns a 2.78 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP over four starts and a trio of relief appearances. The 25-year-old fire-baller has averaged a little over 20 batters faced per start over his last three.

Carrasco has registered a 3.75 ERA on a 1.31 WHIP in 7 starts. The veteran right-hander has been shaky over his last couple home starts, but he’s coming off a solid Aug. 29 outing at the St. Louis Cardinals (6 IP, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO).

  • Statcast data is down on Carrasco, who has yielded a lot of hard contact and many a barreled-up baseball in 2020.

Moneyline (ML)

Indians DH Franmil Reyes (.394 BA, 8 HR, 23 RBI over his last 26 games) and SS Francisco Lindor (.395 BA, 2 HR in a 9-game hit streak) have led a rally for a Cleveland offense which had been scuffling through the first few weeks of the season. Since Aug. 14, the Tribe has scored 5.3 runs per game on a .791 OPS.

Peg Milwaukee as being a couple or three games too far over its skis with a .472 win percentage. The Brewers are just 6-13 against teams .500-or-better. CLEVELAND (-143) is the lean.

New to sports betting? A winning $100 bet on the Indians returns a profit of $69.93.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The prices have this play bracketed. Leave the Brewers +1.5 (-176)/Indians -1.5 (+145) run line alone. PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

Milwaukee has played six road series in 2020. The Brewers have produced just 14 runs over the opening games of those six sets. Both clubs struggle against right-handed pitching.

Solid pitching, below-average offensive clubs, and a cool-ish, low-humidity evening on Lake Erie make for a lower score in this one. BACK THE UNDER 8 (-110).
