Chiefs GM Brett Veach on new Titans GM Mike Borgonzi

Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach talks about new Tennessee Titans GM Mike Borgonzi at opening night of Super Bowl week.

One of the biggest changes the Tennessee Titans made this offseason was hiring Mike Borgonzi as their new general manager. Borgonzi was arguably the best candidate available, and he is already bringing some changes to the front office.

Borgonzi got his NFL start in 2009 with the Kansas City Chiefs and has spent the last 16 years working his way up the ladder within the organization. During that time, he took on a vital role in the construction of their Super Bowl-winning roster, something the Titans need now more than ever.

His former employer with the Chiefs, Brett Veach, continues to be a huge fan of the move for the Titans. During the opening festivities at the Super Bowl, Titans reporter Jim Wyatt caught up with him and asked him about Borgonzi.

“He’s a guy that I think should have been a GM a long time ago,” Veach said. “We were fortunate, we got to keep him inside the organization. But, you’re gonna be thrilled to death with the way he conducts himself and the way he puts that roster together.”

Borgonzi is known as an experienced personnel man and talent evaluator at both the college and pro level. His connections throughout the league should also help open doors with both players and organizations across the NFL.

“We’re still gonna be talking, almost every week, I’m sure.” He said as he finished up.

The question is whether Borgonzi can come in and help transform the Titans in the same way the Chiefs have been transformed from No. 1 pick to the Super Bowl champions. Even though the process has just started, Titans fans should be optimistic for the future of the organization, as it sounds like it is in good hands.

Could Chiefs swap Chris Jones for Myles Garrett after Super Bowl LIX?

Could the #Chiefs look to trade fan-favorite DL Chris Jones for reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett after Super Bowl LIX?

The Kansas City Chiefs have a chance to complete the NFL’s first-ever championship three-peat with a win over the Philadelphia Eagles on February 9, but the future of the team’s dynasty will need to be reevaluated in the offseason.

To maintain the unfathomable level of success that Kansas City has achieved over the last seven seasons, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach will have to think outside of the box and make shrewd maneuvers to ensure his team can continue competing for Super Bowl titles.

One option Veach may have would be to explore a trade for Cleveland Browns pass-rusher Myles Garrett, who formally requested a trade on Monday ahead of Super Bowl LIX:

According to Browns Wire editor Cory Kinnan, any potential pick-for-player trade for Garrett would have to involve at least two first-round selections, and would likely look a lot like the deal that sent Khalil Mack from the then-Oakland Raiders to the Chicago Bears in 2018.

However, one option Kansas City might consider is sending star defensive tackle Chris Jones to Cleveland in exchange for a less valuable package of picks to land Garrett.

In such a scenario, the Chiefs could be expected to give up Jones, a first-round pick, and a second or third-round pick swap to land Garrett.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach comments on Mike Borgonzi joining the Titans front office

The Kansas City Chiefs established a culture of success during their Super Bowl run, with much of the praise going to their front office, led by general manager Brett Veach. The Super Bowl titles have led to other teams hiring away staff members, including Mike Borgonzi, who recently joined the Tennessee Titans as their new general manager.

Fox Sports’ Peter Schrager spoke to Veach during Super Bowl LIX Opening Night to get his thoughts on Borgonzi and other front-office members taking lead roles on different teams.

“I think it’s not just a tribute to our staff, but to those individuals, and obviously Brian Tillis too. I mean, throw him in there. I’m so extremely happy for all of them,” said Veach. “Ryan’s (Poles) gonna do great things, and I’m happy they got the new coach there. Super excited about Mike (Borgonzi). He’s been waiting a long time, but a really good friend of mine. But I think it just speaks to the work that we do. It’s identified around the league. I think other teams want to kind of get into our formula and the reason for our success.”

The Chiefs are viewed as the blueprint for success, and Veach’s tree is quickly forming around the league.

Chiefs President Mark Donovan opens up about the team culture: ‘Being in the moment’

Kansas City #Chiefs President Mark Donovan opens up about the team culture: ‘Being in the moment’ | @EdEastonJr

At Super Bowl LIX Opening Night, Donovan spoke with NFL Network’s Judy Battista and Tom Pelissero in New Orleans about the team’s mindset under head coach Andy Reid.

“As somebody that grew up loving the game of football, loving the NFL and everything it stood for, to be a part of that is kind of overwhelming,” said Donovan. “Andy’s (Reid) done a really good job this week of talking about being in the moment, enjoying the moment, but being in the moment every single day. We’ll deal with that later; right now, we’re just getting the job done.”

Like Reid, Donovan has roots from his time as the Philadelphia Eagles’ Senior Vice President of Operations. He became the Chiefs team president in 2011.

“First and foremost, it’s culture. I was in a great culture when I was in Philadelphia, and this culture is really special as well.” Said Donovan. “It starts with leadership; it starts with the empowerment of Clark (Hunt) and the family. Andy (Reid) and I have worked together for almost 18 years. Brett (Veach) and I have formed a fantastic relationship.”

If the Chiefs defeat Philadelphia on Sunday, they can become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

Should the Chiefs explore a trade for Browns DE Myles Garrett?

Should the #Chiefs explore a trade for #Browns DE Myles Garrett after their Super Bowl LIX matchup against the #Eagles?

The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the best defensive lines in the NFL and may have an opportunity to improve the unit even more in the offseason after they take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

On Monday, news broke that Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett had formally requested a trade, which may open the door for Chiefs general manager to explore a move to acquire the league’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year.

Garrett is widely considered to be among the best pass-rushers in the NFL and has earned First-team All-Pro honors four times since he entered the league in 2017.

His presence could make Kansas City’s front four a nearly indomitable force, given that Garrett would potentially be lined up alongside the likes of Chris Jones, George Karlaftis, Charles Omenihu, and Mike Danna, who are all dynamic linemen in their own right.

Though it is far too early to tell if the Veach and the Chiefs will be in the market for a defensive lineman in the offseason, Garrett’s availability adds a layer of intrigue to the speculation about Kansas City’s future ahead of its showdown against the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

Chiefs GM Brett Veach reflects on moves made during the regular season: ‘I’m super aggressive’

Kansas City #Chiefs general manager Brett Veach reflects on moves made during the regular season: ‘I’m super aggressive’ | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs are seeking NFL history in Super Bowl LIX with the opportunity to become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles. The matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans may not have happened if it hadn’t been for efforts made in the front office led by general manager Brett Veach.

“I don’t necessarily know if we feel vindicated; I think we’re always aggressive, and it goes back to the leadership of Clark (Hunt). Clark does a great job of keeping… I’m super aggressive, and that can be dangerous. Having Clark’s leadership and guidance has been a blessing.” said Veach during the AFC Championship postgame press conference. “It’s a great balance where he gives me the green light when he feels like it’s appropriate, but at the same time, we try to be smart and very decisive in what we do. At the same time, we have a good group here; we plan to be successful for a long time. We just have to be smart. It’s a delicate balance of being disciplined and aggressive. There is a fine balance, and it’s a complete group effort between my staff, Clark, and the coaching staff.”

Veach added players like DeAndre Hopkins, D.J. Humphries, and running back Kareem Hunt due to numerous injuries. Veach gushed over Hunt’s contributions since signing early in the regular season.

“I am so excited. There is a kid that, obviously there, was a tough situation years ago. The kid has grown and learned, and he is so grateful to be here, and we are so grateful to have him. It is really a blessing for this to come full circle. For him to be out of this organization, and he did some great things with Cleveland, but it is always special to come full circle. To see him and the way he has grown and developed as a person, both on and off the field, is great. I am so happy for him; he has been so critical to our success. He is a phenomenal football player, and I’m blessed that it worked out, and he is back here, and hopefully, we will have continued success with him.”

Hunt punched in a 12-yard touchdown rush for the game’s first touchdown on the Chiefs’ opening drive last Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. The touchdown was his second of the 2024 postseason, his third postseason rushing touchdown with the Chiefs, and the seventh rushing score of his playoff career. He finished the game with 64 yards on 17 carries, one touchdown, and one reception for six yards.

Chiefs’ Brett Veach lauds Titans’ decision to hire Mike Borgonzi as GM

Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach has released a statement on the Tennessee Titans hiring Mike Borgonzi as their next general manager.

The Tennessee Titans surprised many with the hiring of former Kansas City Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi as their new GM. Borgonzi was arguably the best candidate available and he should bring a different attitude to the front office.

Borgonzi is an experienced personnel man with many connections throughout the league that should open doors with both players and organizations. The move could also have ramifications within his former organization, as he played a major role in all personnel matters.

One person who went out of the way to applaud this hire was his former employer, Brett Veach, who took to X and announced it as a “home run” for the Titans.

“First and foremost, congratulations to Mike, his wife Jill, and their kids on the well-deserved opportunity,” Veach said. “Mike has an incredible football mind, he’s detailed in his work and he understands the ins and outs of the draft, free agency, building an NFL roster, and managing the salary cap. Beyond the job, Mike is an outstanding father, husband, and a close friend. I am excited to see Mike get his chance to lead an organization. The Titans made an outstanding hire.”

Borgonzi got his NFL start in 2009 with the Chiefs and has spent the last 16 years working his way up the ladder within the organization. During that time, he took on a vital role in the construction of their Super Bowl-winning roster, something the Titans need now more than ever.

Borgonzi will officially be introduced to Nashville in the coming days, where he will lay out his vision for the organization and attempt to outline what changes he may make in the coming months.

Titans fans should look forward to those changes and be optimistic for the future of the organization.

Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo reacts to the signing of Steven Nelson: ‘Take it day by day’

Kansas City #Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo reacts to the signing of Steven Nelson: ‘Take it day by day’ | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs added former draft pick Steven Nelson to the practice squad earlier this week to prepare him to play a significant role in the postseason run. During Thursday’s press conference, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo opened up about the signing.

“Just take it one day at a time and see what we got; it’s been a while. It’s gonna take, take a while to figure out for him.” Said Spagnuolo. “I sat down to talk with him; he hadn’t been doing a lot, so we had him out there for one day. Take it day by day.”

Nelson started his career in Kansas City, starting in 38 of his 52 games and tallying four interceptions and 182 tackles. Spagnuolo shared his thoughts on the decision to sign the veteran cornerback.

“I talked to him about it; I don’t know how it all transpired. I didn’t ask all those questions,” said Spagnuolo. “I’m assuming Brett (Veach) just kind of researched it, and it developed, and he made a decision to give it a shot. So we’ll see where it goes. It’s so ground-level right now that I don’t really have too much insight, to be honest with you.”

Nelson was believed to be retired after nine NFL seasons and playing last year with the Houston Texans. He is more depth for a secondary that has been hit with injuries this season.

Steven Nelson comes out of retirement, signs with Chiefs practice squad

The Kansas City #Chiefs signed veteran DB Steven Nelson on Monday after their win over the Los Angeles #Chargers on ‘Sunday Night Football’

The Kansas City Chiefs signed veteran defensive back Steven Nelson to a practice squad contract on Monday after their Week 14 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Nelson, who initially entered the league as a third-round pick of the Chiefs in the 2015 NFL draft, played in Kansas City for four seasons before signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019.

After his time in the City of Bridges, Nelson played for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021 and the Houston Texans in 2022 and 2023 before he announced his retirement on June 6, 2024.

Though it may take some time for Nelson to earn an activation from the Chiefs’ practice squad, his addition signals that general manager Brett Veach saw a need to add experience to Kansas City’s secondary.

Fans can expect Nelson to become a key contributor to the Chiefs’ defensive backfield if injuries continue to affect Kansas City’s cornerback depth in the final weeks of the regular season.

Chiefs Owner Clark Hunt comments on the latest AFC West division title: ‘Never take them for granted’

Kansas City #Chiefs Owner Clark Hunt comments on the latest AFC West division title: ‘Never take them for granted’ | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt spoke to reporters on Sunday night about the team’s thrilling victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, which clinched a ninth consecutive AFC West division title.

“You certainly never take them for granted; I do think in a lot of ways when you do something for the first time, it’s more special, and that was not the first time we’d ever won the division,” said Hunt. “But when we started this streak of nine, I think we were all really excited. We didn’t know what was ahead of us.”

The nine consecutive AFC West division titles are the second-longest such streak since 1970, trailing only the 2009-19 New England Patriots and their eleven AFC East division titles.

“It’s been a very special time period for the Kansas City Chiefs – an amazing era of Chiefs football. The credit for that goes to Andy (Reid), Brett (Veach), and their staff,” said Hunt. “They’ve just done a phenomenal job. I ought to mention the injuries this year. We certainly have had a lot of injuries, particularly at the receiver position, and Brett and his team have done a fantastic job every week (of) finding a solution, finding somebody who can come in and help us.”

Veach’s notable acquisitions include running back Samaje Perine, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and left tackle D.J. Humphries, each of whom played significant roles in Sunday night’s victory. The Chiefs are now turning their attention to winning the top spot in the AFC and earning a first-round bye.
