Another week of college football is in the books, and that means we are one week closer to bowl season.

As we do every week, I’ve taken a look at the updated bowl projections from Brett McMuprhy of Action Network and pulled out where Michigan State and the rest of the Big Ten teams landed. In this week’s projection, McMurphy has 12 Big Ten teams listed — including Michigan State that made a big jump.

The first complete week of college football is in the books, with the Big Ten getting off to a great start in 2022.

Every Big Ten except for Purdue — who lost to Penn State — has picked up a win so far this season, and that means numerous teams are closer to reaching bowl eligibility. Brett McMurphy of the Action Network released an updated batch of bowl projections following the week one results, with Michigan State finding itself playing in a warm destination this bowl season.

Michigan State football returns next week with the Spartans opening the season against Western Michigan from Spartan Stadium.

The season may not have kicked off yet, but that doesn’t mean we can’t already look ahead to the bowl season. Brett McMurphy of the Action Network released his preseason bowl projections on Monday, with all but three Big Ten teams heading bowling. That includes the Michigan State Spartans heading to another big-time bowl this year.

MSU slated for Duke’s Mayo Bowl in 2022 bowl projections from Brett McMurphy

It appears Brett McMurphy of The Action Network is not particularly high on Michigan State entering the 2022 season

It appears Brett McMurphy of The Action Network is not particularly high on Michigan State entering the 2022 season.

While 247Sports had Michigan State returning to a New Year’s Six bowl game in their recent bowl projections, McMurphy has the Spartans going to a lower-tier bowl game. The Duke’s Mayo Bowl to be exact.

McMurphy has Michigan State playing Louisville in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in his never-too-early 2022 bowl projections that were released on Monday. The Duke’s Mayo Bowl isn’t a bad bowl by any means, but it’s nowhere near as prestigious as one of the New Year’s Six bowl games.

Michigan State is no longer destined for the Rose Bowl in Brett McMurphy’s latest bowl projections.

McMurphy — who writes for The Action Network — has moved the Spartans out of the Rose Bowl and into the Peach Bowl in his latest projections update. The Spartans were essentially passed by rival Michigan for the Big Ten’s bid in the granddaddy of them all.

Things aren’t so bad though for the Spartans. McMurphy still has Michigan State playing in a New Year’s Six game, with the Spartans slated to play Wake Forest in the Peach Bowl.

Nashville or Las Vegas — which would you prefer as a fan?

Those two destinations appear to be the common picks for where Michigan State will be bowling this holiday season. That is the case in college football analyst Brett McMurphy’s updated bowl projections.

The latest bowl projections update from McMurphy now has the Spartans playing Missouri in the Music City Bowl in Nashville. For the past two weeks, McMurphy had the Spartans in the Las Vegas Bowl against a Pac-12 foe.

It only took one week for Michigan State to play their way into the bowl conversation.

Last week’s victory over Northwestern has boosted the Spartans into college football analyst Brett McMurphy’s latest batch of bowl projections. McMurphy — who writes for The Action Network — had the Spartans not listed in his initial bowl projections that came out early last week but that is no longer the case in his updated projections that were released on Tuesday.

McMurphy now has the Spartans slated for the Las Vegas Bowl against the Utah Utes of the Pac-12. McMurphy also lists the betting odds for this projected match-up, which has the Spartans as a sizeable underdog at 11 points.

Any bowl game would be great for the Spartans this season, but the Las Vegas Bowl would be a real slamdunk for Michigan State. It would be a fun trip for fans and also pit the Spartans against a solid opponent from the Pac-12.
