College Sports Wire has Iowa beating UCLA as ‘Best Bet of the Week’

Iowa picked here again.

The UCLA Bruins and Iowa Hawkeyes are facing off in a tough Big Ten Conference showdown on Friday night.

Iowa has six wins on the year and UCLA has back-to-back wins as DeShaun Foster’s program is heading in the right direction following a rough start.

Ahead of the game, a lot of people are picking Iowa, and rightfully so, even with UCLA’s recent surge as of late.

Patrick Conn of College Sports Wire picked Iowa to cover the spread and even had Iowa beating UCLA as his “Best Bet of the Week.”

“I am looking at the Iowa Hawkeyes (-6) matchup against the UCLA Bruins. While UCLA has played better in recent weeks, there has been an offensive explosion by Iowa. Not sure the Hawkeyes get to 40 points for the fourth time in five games but they handle UCLA this weekend.”

Sure, UCLA has played better, but Iowa is a tough team, even with Cade McNamara not playing.

UCLA lands three-star offensive lineman Garrison Blank

DeShaun Foster keeps bringing them in.

UCLA continued to fill out the 2025 recruiting class this week, adding to their future offensive line in a big way. The Bruins picked up a commitment from Rocklin, California, offensive tackle Garrison Blank.

Blank, who stands at 6′ 7″ and just over 300 lbs, is a massive presence on the offensive line. With great run-blocking ability and study pass-protection on the left side of the offensive line, Blank offers left or swing tackle capability.

Already nearly NFL-sized, Blank’s build gives him immediate upside at the next level. With the Bruins moving to the BIG 10, where run-first, power football thrives, having an offensive tackle with Blank’s size is an asset for the Bruins.

The Bruins thrived on their running game in 2024 while leaning on their defense. Under new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, while changes to the offense will be made, it is unlikely they go away from what worked so well. Adding Blank to their commitments helps to shape the offense going forward and provide a potential starter at the position.

2024 4-Star PF Jarin Stevenson commits to Alabama over North Carolina

2024 power forward Jarin Stevenson announced his commitment to Alabama on Wednesday. Stevenson chose the Crimson Tide over Virginia and North Carolina.

Four-star 2024 power forward Jarin Stevenson announced his commitment to Alabama on Wednesday evening. Stevenson also announced that he will be re-classifying and enrolling at Alabama in the fall. Meaning he will forgo his senior year of high school and be eligible to play for Alabama in 2023-2024.

Stevenson chose the Crimson Tide over North Carolina and Virginia. He took official visits to all three programs. In the end, it was Nate Oats and the Alabama coaching staff that was able to land Stevenson’s commitment.

Stevenson plays for Seaforth High School in Pittsboro, North Carolina. As a junior, he averaged 22.8 points per game, 11.7 rebounds per game, and 3.7 blocks per game.

With Stevenson on board, Alabama will now have 11 scholarship players for next season. That is not account for North Dakota State transfer Grant Nelson who has not officially announced that he is committed to Alabama.

In all likelihood, Stevenson will play either power forward or center next season. With Noah Clowney and Charles Bediako declaring for the NBA Draft, Stevenson has the opportunity to see a lot of playing time next season. His ability to stretch the floor, rebound, and protect the rim stands out the most. At 6-foot-10, 200 pounds, Stevenson will be a perfect fit in Nate Oats’ system.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama basketball program.
