Breanna Stewart shared the coldest Liberty championship trophy photo mid-parade

Thanks for playing, everybody. Breanna Stewart wins COLDEST photo of the day.

Breanna Stewart had the time of her life at the Liberty’s championship parade, and one photo showed her journey, which, despite a tough WNBA Finals, was all worth it.

No one had a better time celebrating New York’s first championship than Stewie. Her wife kicked things off early with a hysterical custom parade shirt of Stewie smiling while holding an enormous wine glass. Then, Stewie tweeted that someone should bring her a bottle of wine for the parade, and guess what? SOMEONE BROUGHT STEWIE THE WINE.

As excellent as that sequence of events is, nothing tops a mid-celebration photo that Stewie shared on her social media. In an unbelievably spectacular image from the parade, Stewie is on a float, smoking a victory cigar and holding a glass of red wine while sitting beside the Liberty’s championship trophy. COLDDDDD. 10/10 content. No notes.

A Liberty fan at the parade gave Breanna Stewart a bottle of wine she requested on Twitter

The NY Liberty parade featured Breanna Stewart asking for a bottle of wine on Twitter and a fan delivered.

Breanna Stewart made her intentions clear on X (formerly Twitter) during the New York Liberty parade in the Canyon of Heroes in downtown Manhattan: “Who can hand a bottle of red wine to me when my float passes by??”

Clearly someone listened. Because as cameras caught all the fun of the WNBA champions enjoying themselves on Thursday, they found Stewie walking along with the crowd and suddenly coming upon a fan who handed her something in a paper bag. Stewart looked very happy and appreciative, and we think that was the red wine she asked for.

Watch this and see if you agree:

Breanna Stewart’s wife, Marta Xargay, wore a perfect custom Stewie shirt to Liberty title parade

The smile. The GINORMOUS glass. 10/10 shirt.

Breanna Stewart‘s wife, Marta Xargay, wore an epic shirt with Stewie’s face on it to the Liberty’s championship parade, and we could not stop laughing.

First, let us say that when you win a championship, there are no rules at the parade. YOU DO WHAT YOU WANT. That includes drinking at wildly early times of the day. For Breanna Stewart, that meant wine before noon, and her wife, Marta — another basketball champ —was totally here for her shenanigans.

Ahead of Thursday’s Liberty championship parade, Stewie shared a photo of the whole family patiently waiting for the festivities to start. It seemed harmless until we realized Marta was wearing a shirt with a picture of Stewie smiling while holding a GIANT wine glass.

But wait. It gets better. Shortly after Stewie posted the image, she tweeted, asking someone to bring her a bottle of wine at the parade.

While she didn’t get the red wine she requested, her Instagram story shows someone brought her some white wine.

Lip-readers think Breanna Stewart predicted Liberty’s Game 3 comeback win during NSFW speech

Breanna Stewart wanted NO PARTS of a Game 3 loss.

Breanna Stewart wasn’t about to let the New York Liberty lose Game 3 of the WNBA Finals, and they didn’t.

Let me be clear. This is a Stewie appreciation post. Everyone will be talking about Sabrina Ionsecu’s game-winning shot, and rightfully so. But we need to have a conversation about how Breanna Stewart started imposing her will  during Wednesday night’s thriller with the Lynx.

In the third quarter alone, Stewie scored 14 points and was all over the floor. Soon, she dropped a 30-burger and casually added 11 rebounds, four blocked shots and a steal. EXCUSE ME, BREANNA STEWART?! But I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised. Lip-readers caught Stewie mid-game, seemingly telling her team, “We are not [expletive] losing this game.”

Lip-readers think Breanna Stewart hilariously asked refs for a Napheesa Collier tech after she threw a basketball

Breanna Stewart was READY for that technical foul.

This story was updated to include Breanna Stewart’s response.

Breanna Stewart‘s WNBA Finals matchup with Napheesa Collier is must-see television.

The 2023 MVP and the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year have been trading buckets, blocks and steals all over the court as their teams battle for a WNBA trophy. I’m totally here for it, and it’s probably a good preview for what we’ll see in January when Unrivaled, the league they co-own together, starts.

I’m also here for good old-fashioned court shenanigans. Some wonderful basketball fans and lovely lip-readers believe they caught Stewie hilariously saying, “Tech! Tech! Tech her!” to nearby refs after she and Phee got tangled up late during Game 2. Phee seemingly threw the basketball in frustration after a foul call, and Stewie immediately started chirping.

UPDATE: Postgame, Uconn Coach Geno Auriemma, one of the many stars in attendance for Game 2, said to Stewie, “You know you tried to get a ‘t’ on Phee” as he hugged her.

She smiled and jokingly said, “I was like, ‘Tech! Tech,'” before embracing one of her children and showing them off to Geno.

Breanna Stewart’s devastated reaction to missed FT summed up Liberty loss

Oh no, Liberty.

The New York Liberty got so, so close to winning Game 1 of the 2024 WNBA Finals.

After superstar Liberty forward Breanna Stewart got fouled with under a second to go in regulation with her team down by a point, it sure looked like Stewie was headed to the line to ice the game with two free throws.

Stewart made the first free throw to tie up the game but missed the second attempt, which gave the Minnesota Lynx new life as the game went to overtime. Minnesota won in extra time, 95-93, going up in the series by a game.

While you can’t blame a loss on a missed bucket, Stewart hitting that free throw more than likely wins the game for the Liberty in regulation.

Her reaction after missing the second free throw was really sad to watch, as she looked devastated to see such a typically automatic basket slip through her grasp.

Stewart’s missed free throw summed up New York’s Game 1 loss in a way, a game of “almosts” for the Liberty.

Former Notre Dame star Brianna Turner asked if she plays for UConn

Come on now.

Former Notre Dame standout [autotag]Brianna Turner[/autotag] has established herself during her six seasons in the WNBA. While she’s played fewer minutes this year with the Chicago Sky than she did during her five years with the Phoenix Mercury, it’s not like she doesn’t have accomplishments like two All-Defensive First Team selections.

Meanwhile, UConn is the biggest brand in women’s basketball across all levels, and the proof is there in all of its national championships. So it stands to reason for casual or ill-informed fans that any elite women’s basketball player to emerge over the past quarter-century went there or still goes there.

Turner, of course, did not go to UConn. The accolades she earned while with the Irish are too many to list, making her one of the most accomplished players ever to come through South Bend.

Apparently, some people don’t recognize this though because Turner took to social media to reveal this anecdote:

We don’t know for sure, but is it possible this person confused her with  Breanna Stewart, who’s been away from the Huskies longer than Turner’s been away from the Irish? It would be a logical explanation.

Stewart and Turner met only once during their collegiate careers, and that was when the Huskies beat the Irish for the 2015 national championship. Turner actually outscored Stewart in that game, racking up 14 points while Stewart had only eight.

The point of all this? The Huskies don’t have a monopoly on elite women’s basketball talent, hard as that might be to believe.

Breanna Stewart and WNBA players rip Cathy Engelbert for not denouncing Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese fan toxicity

Cathy Engelbert did little to address the unhinged words and actions from fans, and WNBA players ripped her for it.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert missed a massive opportunity to address the issues permeating the league’s circles head-on — by a mile.

Earlier this week, Engelbert was asked to speak about how race and sexuality have been introduced into conversations surrounding two of the league’s prominent players — Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese — and how she would stay ahead of it and keep a lid on the unhinged and dark rhetoric from fans.

Engelbert didn’t answer the question as most assumed she would have — denouncing any hate, racism, sexism, etc. — and instead leaned into the Caitlin-Angel “rivalry” and mentioned how it was good for fans and business. Here’s a clip of that conversation:

Engelbert’s gaffe was immediately evident, and when New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart was asked about it, she didn’t hold back.

Per Lucas Kaplan of SB Nation, here’s a portion of what she told the media Tuesday:

“There’s no place for that in our sport, and I think that’s really it…we want our sport to be inclusive for race, gender and really a place where people can be themselves.”

“We wished, obviously, Cathy would use her platform in a different way and have made that a little bit better…telling the fans…enough is enough.”

“Become a fan of our sport, and for the new ones, lock in on everybody. But don’t be disrespectful because as a league, like, we stick together, and there’s no place for that.”

But Stewart wasn’t the only prominent figure or entity to react to the commissioner’s statement and the backlash.

The Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) and several players across the league, including Angel Reese, did.

Engelbert later released a statement about her viral segment to clarify her comments.

However, Engelbert’s update didn’t sit well with fans, and they immediately ripped her for it, too.

Nets’ Ben Simmons has shorter wingspan than Liberty’s Breanna Stewart

Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons has great positional size, but he also has a shorter wingspan than New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart.

Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons has been unlucky with injuries over the past few seasons, but when he was with the Philadelphia 76ers, he was known as one of the better two-way players in the NBA. One of the main reasons for Simmons all-around ability is his great size for a point guard, but his wingspan is shorter that someone else who also plays in Brooklyn.

In a video posted on X, Overtime Maddy (social media manager for the Overtime League) plays a game with New York Liberty forward and reigning WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart. The game is that Maddy gives her a list of NBA players and Stewart has to guess which one she has a longer or shorter wingspan than.

As some context for this challenge, keep in mind that Stewart is listed at 6-foot-4, but has a wingspan of 7-foot-1, meaning that she has some long arms, especially for her frame. When Simmons’ name came up, Stewart understandably hesitated given that he is listed at 6-foot-10 and already appears to have long arms when watching him play.

To Stewart’s surprise, Maddy told her that she was the one with the longer wingspan and for those familiar with Simmons from the NBA Draft process, the numbers bear out. Per Jonathan Givony and Mike Schmitz of Draftexpress.com all the way back in 2016, the duo wrote the following for Simmons’ scouting report:

“In terms of talent, there is quite a bit to like in Simmons’ profile. He has ample size at 6’10, and a sturdy frame at around 240 pounds. While he does not possess great length, with a wingspan measured between 6’11 and 7’0, he is one of the most fluid and coordinated athletes you’ll find.”
