The Atlanta Braves (21-14) and Boston Red Sox (12-24) cap off a three-game series at Fenway Park on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. ET. We analyze the Braves-Red Sox betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Braves at Red Sox: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Robbie Erlin vs. LHP Mike Kickham

Erlin has recorded a 6.00 ERA through three starts and three relief appearances. The 29-year-old swingman has faced no more than 18 batters in any single start. He owns a 5.59 career ERA.

Kickham is a 31-year-old journeyman southpaw that logged 14 outings with the San Francisco Giants over 2013-14. He posted a 4.27 ERA in 86.1 IP at Triple-A New Orleans in 2019.

Moneyline (ML)

Boston bats have been better with a high-contact .804 OPS over the last two weeks. The Red Sox bullpen isn’t top 10, but it has deserved a better fate than the 5.28 ERA it has posted. Red Sox relievers do have all kinds of problems against right-handed bats, and that’s a particular concern against Atlanta, a righty-bashing (.845 OPS) offense with 5.2 runs per game this season.

As a general team-vs.-team proposition, a better price is baked in on the Boston side. There is a slight lean toward a RED SOX +130 play, but with the pitching question marks in this contest, there isn’t much to go on.

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Red Sox returns a profit of $13.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Here we get the same line of reasoning as above but with a more palatable price. In what figures as a lofty-total tilt at humid-breeze-out-to-left Fenway, RED SOX +1.5 (-121) is a decent way to go.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 11 (-110)/UNDER 11 (-110) is a toss up. It’s a big tag but a fairly constructed one.

Atlanta Braves at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s Atlanta Braves at Boston Red Sox sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Atlanta Braves (20-14) and Boston Red Sox (12-23) continue a three-game series at Fenway Park Tuesday night. First pitch is at 7:30 p.m. ET. We analyze the Braves-Red Sox betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Braves at Red Sox: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Ian Anderson vs. RHP Ryan Weber

Anderson is a rookie right-hander making his second career start. In his Aug. 26 debut, the 22-year-old went six frames against the New York Yankees, allowing just a solo home run.

  • Anderson has a bread-and-butter change-up, a pitch he threw 39% of the time in his game against the Yankees. New York couldn’t muster any offense and ranks third in MLB in production against change-ups.

Weber is the opener in what figures to be a bullpen effort for the Red Sox. The right-hander has registered a 6.00 ERA through 24 IP spanning three starts and five relief appearances.

Moneyline (ML)

Boston has coughed up a league-high 6.1 runs per game and no other team is even close to that. The Crimson Hose endured an awful stretch in mid-August, but since Aug. 19 has gone a respectable 6-5. The Boston bats have been better with high-contact .804 OPS over the last two weeks.

The relief corps isn’t top-10, but it has deserved a better fate than the 5.28 ERA it’s currently posting. Red Sox relievers do have all kinds of problems against right-handed bats, and that’s a particular concern against Atlanta, a righty-bashing (.845 OPS) offense which has cranked out 5.2 RPG this season.

Still, in the risk/reward equation, the price is right on Boston getting past Anderson his second time out in what figures as a high-scoring affair. The lean is on the RED SOX (+145), but consider a line watch in a hunt for something around +150.

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Red Sox returns a profit of $14.50.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

There isn’t much wiggle room here, but a five-cent swing lower on Boston would bring the run line back into play. The run-and-a-half is tagged at RED SOX +1.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 10 (-110) is worth backing in what figures as a 2020 COVID-roster-rule bullpen night in a hitters’ yard.

Atlanta Braves at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Atlanta Braves at Boston Red Sox sports betting odds and lines, with MLB betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Atlanta Braves (19-14) and Boston Red Sox (12-22) open a three-game series at Fenway Park Monday with the first pitch slated for 7:30 p.m. ET. We analyze the Braves-Red Sox betting odds and lines, with MLB picks and best bets.

Braves at Red Sox: Projected starting pitchers

LHP Max Fried vs. RHP Colten Brewer

Fried has been a stud for the Braves this season, going 5-0 with a stellar 1.35 ERA.

  • Fried’s strikeout rate (8.6 K/9) is actually down from the past two seasons, but he has yet to allow a home run.
  • Fried leads the NL in ERA, looking like a legitimate Cy Young candidate.

Brewer has struggled like much of the Red Sox’s pitching staff, starting 0-2 with a 4.57 ERA.

  • Brewer has started three games this season but has only been used as an opener in those games, pitching no more than 4.0 innings in any appearance.
  • His worst outing of the season came last Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays, allowing four runs in 3 2/3 innings.

Prediction

Braves 5, Red Sox 2

Moneyline (ML)

With their ace on the mound, the BRAVES (-189) are big favorites over the Red Sox (+170) in this series opener. Atlanta is just 6-4 in its last 10 games, but has not lost a start by Fried all season.

The Braves should win this game fairly easily, especially with Benintendi out and Martinez questionable for the BoSox. Assuming Acuna is able to play, the Braves offense shouldn’t have much trouble putting runs across the plate. Take the BRAVES to win outright.

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Braves ML returns a profit of $5.29. A $10 bet on the Red Sox ML profits $17 if they prevail.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

As much as I like the Braves to win straight-up, the run line is an even better bet. The recommended line of -1.5 comes in at a respectable -125, which still leaves plenty of upside with that wager.

Atlanta will cover the spread and win by at least a couple of runs, which is why I’m going with the BRAVES on the RL.

Over/Under (O/U)

Bet UNDER 9.5 (-110). Fried will keep the Red Sox in check. The total has gone Under in four of Atlanta’s last six games, a trend that should continue in Boston Monday. Even with Boston’s offense performing relatively well, it hasn’t faced an ace like Fried often this season.
