Notre Dame fans are familiar with the name Brandon Hoyte as the former Irish linebacker and captain helped guide Charlie Weis’s first squad to a surprise BCS appearance.
Hoyte, now 37, is in need of help as he’s in jail in need of bond money and funds to pay for assessment and treatment of his mental health, which has degraded because he “suffered brain trauma as a result of playing football,” according to the organizers of a gofundme campaign
If you’re not able to give monetarily then an email may help in a small way, something the fine folks at One Foot Down have shown how to properly send, as they’ve been big Hoyte fans for quite some time.
Chris Korman of FTW also wrote about the situation and how it is another example of why college athletes deserve to be paid for their athletic efforts.
Here’s to hoping Hoyte can get the help he needs and can fulfill some of his big dreams of accomplishing things that went far beyond a football field.
