Just like that, Michigan football got its highest-rated commitment of the 2021 class on the defensive side of the ball.

With Florida State struggling on the field even under new head coach Mike Norvell, the maize and blue have continued to target multiple players who were planning to be Seminoles. Cornerback Omarion Cooper has been the one gathering headlines in recent months, but there’s another who decided to make the flip before him.

2021 Jacksonville (FL) Sandalwood four-star linebacker Branden Jennings committed to FSU back in February, but decommitted on Oct. 12. It took all of four days for him to decide that he’ll be joining the Wolverines, as he announced on Twitter that he’s committing to Michigan.

Jennings is rated No. 52 nationally by Rivals.com, regardless of position.

With Jennings in the fold, Michigan is back up to 21 commits, and rises in the 247Sports Team Rankings from No. 12 to No. 7, bypassing Miami (FL), Notre Dame, Tennessee and Georgia.

He has offers from the likes of Clemson, LSUOhio StateNotre Dame, Penn State, Texas and USC. Don Brown and Brian Jean-Mary were the recruiters vying for Jennings’ services.

Michigan making a run for Top 100 2021 LB

Michigan football appears poised to add the four-star linebacker days after decommitting from the Seminoles.

Michigan lost one linebacker commit in the 2021 class when Casey Phinney opted to stay East, flipping from the Wolverines to Boston College. But it might upgrade from a three-star to a high-level four-star, it appears.

2021 Jacksonville (FL) inside linebacker Branden Jennings committed to Florida State back in February, but as the Seminoles continue to struggle, even under a new coach in Mike Norvell, the more difficult it will be for them to retain top-flight commits. Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown and linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary have remained vigilant in wooing Jennings, so when he decommitted from FSU on Oct. 12, the prospects of the maize and blue landing him appeared to be quite high.

According to the recruiting experts at 247Sports, Michigan is the team to beat.

On Thursday, a run of 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions came in for the Wolverines, with a high confidence-level that Jennings will end up in a winged helmet. There are now eight predictions favoring the maize and blue (out of 10) with the holdouts still being the previous Florida State prognostications.

Every one of the predictions favoring Michigan has come in on Thursday morning.

Jennings is expected to make his pledge on Oct. 16.

With 42 reported offers, Jennings is widely coveted, with the likes of Clemson, LSU, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Texas and USC having offered. He’s rated as the No. 81 player overall, regardless of position, according to the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 13 player in the state of Florida.

Michigan currently has 20 commitments in the 2021 class, but if Jennings joins the class, he’ll instantly be the Wolverines highest-rated defensive pledge in the class.

Tennessee target, Florida State commit reopens recruitment

This outside linebacker prospect will be looking at other schools after his latest announcement.

Blue-chip 2021 outside linebacker prospect is open to hearing from other schools, the Florida State commit announced on his Twitter page.

Branden Jennings from Jacksonville, Florida has garnered plenty of Power 5 interest, with the Vols being one of the schools to make an offer.

“After a lot of thought and consideration I will be reopening my recruiting process,” Jennings said. “When I committed back in February I was still planning on taking a few unofficial visits over the summer. The pandemic hit and prevented me from taking those opportunities.

“I have to get this right. I want to make sure that I make the right decision on where I continue my football and educational career.”

Jennings is a 4-star on the 247Sports Composite, and rated as the No. 6 outside linebacker in his class and No. 13 player in Florida.

The 6-foot-3.5, 225-pound senior is from Sandalwood High School and holds offers from Auburn, Clemson, LSU, Michigan, Tennessee and several others.
