The United States rolls in the FIBA U17 World Cup.
AJ Dybantsa and Cameron Boozer led the way for the United States on Sunday in the final of the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup. The Americans cruised to a 129-88 win over Italy to win the championship.
Boozer was named the MVP of the tournament, a fitting honor following his 24 points and 13 rebound output to help the United States to the emphatic win.
The United States was an absolute buzzsaw in the tournament, defeating opponents in the six games leading up to Sunday’s championship by an average of 68.2 points per game
Their closest game came in their opener of the World Cup, a 104-81 win over France.
Also making the All-Star 5 from Sunday’s championship game was Maikcol Perez of Italy. The other two players included in the all-tournament team were Kaan Onat (Türkiye) and Oscar Goodman (New Zealand).
The nominees for Boys Basketball Player of the Year have been released, a top-tier roster of 25 standouts who need little introduction.
From familiar last names that carry flashes of NBA highlights to 5-star phenoms to dynamic talents who helped their teams hold firm in the USA TODAY HSS Super 25 all season, the collective group will make deciding on the best of the best in August a tall task.
Until then, the HSS staff would like to extend a massive standing-O to each of the players selected this year.

A top high school basketball tournament, The Throne, will be held March 27-30 in New Jersey.
The American Dream is not only alive and well, it is apparently also a Hoop Dream.
Horrific puns aside, the American Dream (East Rutherford, New Jersey) will host ‘The Thone,’ a high school basketball tournament. The tournament will run from March 27-30.
The top team on the boys side is Columbus (Miami, Florida), ranked second in the nation in this week’s USA TODAY HSS Super 25. No. 4 Plano East (Plano, Texas) and No. 13 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, New Jersey) are also featured among the 16 teams on the boys side.
One of the teams in the tournament, McEachern High School (Powder Springs, Georgia) features Ace Bailey. A five-star forward who is committed to Rutgers, Bailey was named the No. 1 player in the nation this week by USA TODAY High School Sports.
The event is being run in conjunction with Gold Level Sports & Entertainment and the National Basketball Players Association.
There is also a very deep and talented girls division. Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Maryland) is the tournament’s top team followed by second-seeded Morris Catholic (Denville, New Jersey).
