Alexander Povetkin vs. Dillian Whyte fight odds, picks and prediction

Breaking down Saturday’s WBC title fight between Alexander Povetkin and Dillian Whyte with boxing odds, picks and predictions.

We get a 12-round WBC interim heavyweight title bout when Alexander Povetkin and Dillian Whyte meet Saturday in a rematch at the Europa Sports Sport Complex in Gibraltar. The card is set to begin around 1 p.m. ET, with the fight set for approximately 6 p.m. ET. Below, we break down the Povetkin-Whyte odds, with boxing picks and predictions. The fight card is televised on DAZN.

Povetkin vs. Whyte: Fight odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:40 a.m. ET.

Alexander Povetkin +250 (bet $100 to win $250) | Dillian Whyte -350 (bet $350 to win $100) | Draw +3300

Whyte has an implied win probability of 77.78% with the -350 money line odds. Those odds can be expressed as a fraction of 2/7 or decimal of 1.29.

Povetkin vs. Whyte: Tale of the tape

Alexander Povetkin

The 41-year-old Povetkin (36-2-1, 25 KOs) dropped Whyte at Matchroom Fight Camp in the first meeting Aug. 22, recording a fifth-round KO victory with a jab-upper cut combo that ended up with Whyte knocked out cold. So Povetkin is a heavy underdog in the rematch? Well, the result doesn’t always tell the tale. Many talking heads had it scored with Whyte winning all four rounds, including a pair of knockdowns in the fourth round. So the books have Povetkin as the ‘dog since he is still 2-1-1 across his past four fights, and he just hasn’t been the dominant fighter he once was. Nine months later, and well past his 40th birthday, the skills are expected to be even more diminished.

Dillian Whyte

Whyte (27-2, 18 KOs) is looking to bounce back after that lucky jab-upper cut combo ended up with the setback last time out. He gets a chance at atonement, and the 32-year-old is expected to do just that. Whyte hadn’t lost in 11 straight fights dating back to Dec. 12, 2015, since being dropped by Anthony Joshua. The younger fighter, as mentioned above, was winning all four of the first rounds, and he looked like he was nearing a finish himself, controlling the tempo from the jump. Whyte is nine years younger than Povetkin, who was much slower in the first outing.

Povetkin vs. Whyte: Odds, predictions and picks

Whyte (-350) is expected to exact revenge in this one, and he’ll do just that if he can control the tempo and avoid the lucky kill-shot like the first installment. A Whyte win could also set up the potential of a trilogy, although Povetkin is getting a little long in the tooth. Still, playing Whyte straight on the 3-way line is a little risky at three-and-a-half times your potential return.

The better action on this fight is rolling with WHYTE BY KO/TKO, TECHNICAL DECISION OR DQ (-165). He was handling himself with aplomb in the first battle, and he had a pair of knockdowns in the first round, and he looked to be close to a finish before Povetkin flipped the script. It won’t happen again.

In addition, I like individual round betting, and it’s a good strategy to highlight a three-round block. WHYTE IN ROUND 6 (+1100), WHYTE IN ROUND 7 (+1100) and WHYTE IN ROUND 8 (+1200) are the rounds to highlight. Yes, you will lose two of the ends, but if Whyte gets the finish in Rounds 6-8 you’ll be well ahead.

Chris Kongo vs. Michael McKinson fight odds, picks and prediction

Breaking down Saturday’s welterweight bout between Chris Kongo and Michael McKinson with boxing odds, picks and predictions.

We get a 10-round welterweight bout when Chris Kongo and Michael McKinson meet Saturday at the Europa Sports Sport Complex in Gibraltar. The card is set to begin around 1 p.m. ET, with the fight set for approximately 3 p.m. ET. Below, we break down the Kongo-McKinson odds, with boxing picks and predictions. The fight card is televised on DAZN.

Kongo vs. McKinson: Fight odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:25 a.m. ET.

Chris Kongo -300 (bet $300 to win $100) | Michael McKinson +225 (bet $100 to win $225) | Draw +1800

Kongo has an implied win probability of 75.0% with the -300 money line odds. Those odds can be expressed as a fraction of 1/3 or decimal of 1.33.

Kongo vs. McKinson: Tale of the tape

Chris Kongo

Kongo (12-0, 7 KOs) is coming off an impressive 9th-round knockout over Luther Clay last time out, also on the undercard of a Alexander Povetkin-Dillian Whyte PPV. He has recorded KO/TKO in four of his past seven fights. Now he gets unbeaten McKinson in the Rumble on the Rock, with a chance to secure his spot as one of the premier fighters in the division with a victory. This will be his first professional bout outside of the United Kingdom, although technically Gibraltar is a British Overseas territory.

Michael McKinson

McKinson (19-0, 2 KOs) has wowed the judges with his technical ability, but he’ll likely need a finish against the likes of Kongo, a big step up in competition from what he has been used to. He pushed past Martin Harkin in a unanimous-decision victory Oct. 18, at Production Park Studios in South Kirkby. He hasn’t had a stoppage since a TKO against Colin Lynes Nov. 25, 2017, going the distance in each of his past six bouts.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Kongo vs. McKinson: Odds, predictions and picks

Kongo (-300) is a little too steep on the 3-way line, so we’ll have to get specific. Check out the method of victory section and take KONGO BY KO/TKO/TECHNICAL DECISION OR DQ (+175) for a much better value. He has plenty of knockout ability, and McKinson just doesn’t match up. McKinson will be overwhelmed in this battle in Gibraltar.

In addition, I like to roll with a three-round block in individual round betting. Target KONGO IN ROUND 6 (+1400), KONGO IN ROUND 7 (+1400) and KONGO IN ROUND 8 (+1600). Yes, you will lose two ends, but if Kongo comes through with the victory in either of those rounds, you’ll be well ahead still.

Artur Beterbiev vs. Adam Deines fight odds, picks and prediction

Breaking down Saturday’s IBF and WBC title fight between Artur Beterbiev and Adam Deines with boxing odds, picks and predictions.

We get a 12-round IBF and WBC light heavyweight title bout when Artur Beterbiev and Adam Deines meet Saturday at the Khodynka Ice Palace in Moscow. The card is set to begin around 1 p.m. ET, with the fight set for approximately 5 p.m. ET. Below, we break down the Beterbiev-Deines odds, with boxing picks and predictions.

Beterbiev vs. Deines: Fight odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:25 a.m. ET.

Artur Beterbiev -2500 (bet $2,500 to win $100) | Adam Deines +1000 (bet $100 to win $1,000) | Draw +2500

Beterbiev has an implied win probability of 96.15% with the -2500 money line odds. Those odds can be expressed as a fraction of 1/25 or decimal of 1.04.

Beterbiev vs. Deines: Tale of the tape

Artur Beterbiev

Beterbiev (15-0, 15 KOs) is an overwhelming favorite in his first fight since Oct. 19, 2019, that was a 10th-round victory against Oleksandr Gvozdyk in Philadelphia. While he hasn’t fought over the past 17 months, mostly due to COVID, of course, he said he did not miss a week of training as he tried staying sharp despite the lack of fights. He was supposed to face Deines in October, but a rib injury pushed it to Jan. 30, 2021. The fight was off again then, as Beterbiev tested positive for COVID.

Place your legal, online boxing bets in CO, IA, IN, MI, NJ, PA, TN, VA and WV at BetMGM, The King of Sportsbooks! New customer offer: Risk-free first bet. Terms and conditions apply. Bet now!

Adam Deines

Deines (19-1-1, 10 KOs) won his past two fights by KO/TKO, pushing past Josef Lehr in five rounds Aug. 17, 2019, and in just two rounds Sept. 28, 2019, against Yevgenii Makhteienko. He has been waiting out Beterbiev and his injury and COVID situation. He might wish the fight would get postponed again as he is a huge underdog and not expected to last long with the champ.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Beterbiev vs. Deines: Odds, predictions and picks

Beterbiev (-2500) is just too expensive, as you would need to put up $100 for every $4 won. That’s just too risky, even if there is very little chance of Deines (+1000) pulling off the upset. The German boxer will be overmatched in this one.

Even the method of victory is very expensive, as BETERBIEV BY KO/TKO/TECHNICAL DECISION OR DQ (-800) will cost you eight times your return. But Beterbiev is 15-for-15 in his career with knockouts, so it’s a good bet even with so much risk.

In addition, look to individual round betting for a good value. I like to target a three-round block. Look to BETERBIEV IN ROUND 4 (+600), BETERBIEV IN ROUND 5 (+700) and BETERBIEV IN ROUND 6 (+800). Yes, you will lose two ends of this three-round block, even if Beterbiev wins in Rounds 4-6, but you will still be well ahead.

Lawrence Okolie vs. Krzysztof Glowacki fight odds, picks and prediction

Breaking down Saturday’s bout between Lawrence Okolie and Krzysztof Glowacki with boxing odds, picks and predictions.

We get a 12-round WBO cruiserweight title bout when Lawrence Okolie and Krzysztof Glowacki meet Saturday in London. The fight is set for approximately 3 p.m. ET. Below, we break down the Okolie-Glowacki odds, with boxing picks and predictions.

Okolie vs. Glowacki: Fight odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:15 a.m. ET.

Lawrence Okolie -400 (bet $400 to win $100) | Krzysztof Glowacki +333 (bet $100 to win $333) | Draw +2200

Okolie has an implied win probability of 80.00% with the -400 money line odds. Those odds can be expressed as a fraction of 1/4 or decimal of 1.25.

Okolie vs. Glowacki: Tale of the tape

Lawrence Okolie

Okolie (15-0, 12 KOs) has a rather quick turnaround as he last fought in December. He barely broke a sweat, dropping Nikodem Jezewski in the second round for his fifth straight knockout and 12th in 15 career professional bouts. The last time he was taken the distance was Sept. 22, 2018, in a bout against Matty Askin on the Joshua-Povetkin undercard.

Krzysztof Glowacki

Glowacki (31-2, 19 KOs) was knocked out in the third round in his most recent fight against Mairis Briedis June 15, 2019. Like everything else, COVID affected this fight. They were previously supposed to meet Dec. 12, 2020, but Glowacki tested positive for coronavirus, and Okolie ended up with another opponent. Previous to the Briedis fight, Glowacki was on a five-bout win streak, including a unanimous-decision win in the main event over Maksim Vlasov Nov. 10, 2018.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Okolie vs. Glowacki: Odds, predictions and picks

Okolie (-400) is a little expensive on the 3-way line, as you must risk four times your potential return. Let’s get a little more specific instead.

I don’t like the fact Glowacki has been off for so long, and you have to wonder about his cardio and ability to stand in there for long against Okolie, who has been in the ring within the past three months, and was impressive in that outing, too. As such, OKOLIE BY KO/TKO/TECHNICAL DECISION OR DQ (-150) is a must-play.

In addition, I always try and target a three-round block. OKOLIE IN ROUND 5 (+1100), OKOLIE IN ROUND 6 (+1100) and OKOLIE IN ROUND 7 (+1100) is a value play if he is able to win in Rounds 5-7. You will lose two of the ends, but still be well ahead. It isn’t even out of line to perhaps bet a four-round block, as you can still be well ahead.

Jessica McKaskill vs. Cecilia Braekhus fight odds, picks and prediction

Breaking down Saturday’s bout between Jessica McKaskill and Cecilia Braekhus with boxing betting odds, picks and predictions.

We get a 10-round, 147-pound welterweight title and co-feature bout when Jessica McKaskill and Cecilia Braekhus meet at American Airlines Center in Dallas Saturday. The title bout card is set to begin around 8 p.m. ET on DAZN. Below, we break down the McKaskill-Braekhus odds, with boxing picks and predictions.

McKaskill vs. Braekhus: Fight odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:40 a.m. ET.

Jessica McKaskill: +130 (bet $100 to win $130) | Cecilia Braekhus: -140 (bet $140 to win $100)

McKaskill vs. Braekhus: Tale of the tape

Jessica McKaskill

McKaskill (9-2, 3 KOs) stunned the boxing world when she landed the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and IBO female welterweight belts in a fight in Tulsa, Okla. The undisputed female welterweight champ will now try to show her majority-decision victory Aug. 15, 2020, over the 39-year-old Braekhus (36-1, 9 KOs) was no fluke. “CasKILLA” would like to add The Ring Magazine belt to her collection in this battle.

Place your legal, online boxing bets in CO, IA, IN, MI, NJ, PA, TN, VA and WV at BetMGM, The King of Sportsbooks! New customer offer: Risk-free first bet. Terms and conditions apply. Bet now!

Cecilia Braekhus

Braekhus is the more polished fighter with a lengthy history, and she is looking to regain her glory in Dallas on a much bigger stage in the co-feature bout. The 39-year-old has a lot more mileage than her counterpart, however, and Braekhus just didn’t bring the same kind of energy, intensity and punching power to the first match in Tulsa like McKaskill. In fact, she just looked tired and disinterested. The difference here is that McKaskill is a high-energy puncher, while Braekhus looks to win on technical ability and skill, trying to wow the judges while conserving energy. If you’re looking for the more exciting fighter, it’s definitely not Braekhus.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

McKaskill vs. Braekhus: Odds, predictions and picks

MCKASKILL (+110) is the underdog worth playing on the 2-way line. Play the 2-way instead of the 3-way line to take out the potential draw, which is a real possibility in an evenly matched fight. McKaskill is the lean here, however, even though Braekhus has a ton more experience. She is just more energetic and capable of ending the fight inside the distance.

Playing MCKASKILL BY KO/TKO/TECHNICAL DECISION OR DQ (+1600) is certainly worth a small-unit bet because it pays so well. Why not roll the dice for such a huge payout in the event of a stoppage? But the best bet is MCKASKILL ON POINTS (+150). Even though she has big punching power and high energy, McKaskill still has just two knockout wins in 11 career pro bouts.

Hiroto Kyoguchi vs. Axel Aragon Vega fight odds, picks and prediction

Breaking down Saturday’s bout between Hiroto Kyoguchi and Axel Aragon Vega with boxing betting odds, picks and predictions.

We get a 12-round, 108-pound WBA super lightweight title bout when Hiroto Kyoguchi and Axel Aragon Vega meet at American Airlines Center in Dallas Saturday. The title bout card is set to begin around 8 p.m. ET on DAZN. Below, we break down the Kyoguchi-Vega odds, with boxing picks and predictions.

Kyoguchi vs. Vega: Fight odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:20 a.m. ET.

Hiroto Kyoguchi: -700 (bet $700 to win $100) | Axel Aragon Vega: +500 (bet $100 to win $500)

Kyoguchi has an implied win probability of 87.50% with the -700 money line odds. Those odds can be expressed as a fraction of 1/7 or decimal of 1.143.

Kyoguchi vs. Vega: Tale of the tape

Hiroto Kyoguchi

Kyoguchi (14-0, 9 KOs) puts his unblemished record on the line, and he is a rather heavy favorite to retain his strap. The lanky 27-year-old stands three-and-a-half inches taller than his counterpart, and he will look to use his 64-inch reach to his advantage.

Kyoguchi has gone the distance in each of his past two fights as the competition has improved, including a UD win over Tetsuya Hisada Oct. 1, 2019, in Osaka last time out to retain his WBA super and Ring light-flyweight straps. This will mark his first-career fight in the United States.

Axel Aragon Vega

Vega, a.k.a. “El Mini”, stands in with a reach of just 58 inches, which is six inches less than his counterpart. He will have a difficult time getting next to Kyoguchi. The 20-year-old Mexican fighter pushed past Saul Juarez last time out Aug. 21, 2020, in Kissimmee, Fla. to scoop up the vacant WBA Fedecentro Light Flyweight title. He hasn’t had a knockout in three fights since taking care of Giovanni Noriega Aug. 24, 2019.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Kyoguchi vs. Vega: Odds, predictions and picks

Kyoguchi (-700) will cost you seven times your potential return on the 3-way line, and that’s just too expensive. Instead, look to method of victory, as well as a block of round betting for better values.

KYOGUCHI BY KO/TKO/TECHNICAL DECISION OR DQ (+100) is even money and a good bet. Vega is a talented fighter, but he isn’t quite ready for prime time just yet. Kyoguchi is easily the more polished pugilist, and he’ll put on a punching display while working to keep Vega at a distance with his overwhelming reach advantage.

Try and do a three-round block in individual round betting. Kyoguchi delivered early knockouts in the first handful of fights in his career, but those were against tomato cans. Vega is a better fighter and will hang around a while. Still, target KYOGUCHI IN ROUND 6 (+1200), KYOGUCHI IN ROUND 7 (+1200) and KYOGUCHI IN ROUND 8 (+1200) for the win. Yes, you will lose two of those rounds, but if Kyoguchi hammers Vega in Rounds 6-8, you’ll still be well ahead.

Estrada vs. Gonzalez: Tale of the tape

Juan Francisco Estrada

Estrada (41-3, 28 KOs) finally gets his chance at a rematch nine years after a scintillating unanimous decision setback against Gonzalez (50-2, 41 KOs) back in 2012.

Estrada enters on a five-bout win streak, including a TKO win in the 11th round against Carlos Cuadras at Gimnasio TV Azteca in Mexico City last time out Oct. 23, 2020. That was fought on the same card as Gonzalez, as the promoters looked to really get everyone excited for a potential bout between these two. This will be Estrada’s first fight in the United States since he knocked off Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in Inglewood, Calif. April 26, 2019, in a unanimous-decision victory to win the WBC and The Ring super flyweight titles.

Roman Gonzalez

Gonzalez, a.k.a. “Chocolatito”, has won four world titles in four weight classes and is looking to keep his WBA super flyweight title in this one. On that same Oct. 23, 2020 card with Estrada, Gonzalez pushed past Israel Gonzalez in a unanimous decision to keep the WBA super flyweight strap. That win came on the heels of his ninth-round TKO over Kal Yafai in Fresno, Calif., Feb. 29, 2020, when he won that WBA super flyweight title. If we’re looking at common foes, Gonzalez lost back-to-back fights against Rungvisai, his only two professional losses, back in 2017.

Estrada vs. Gonzalez: Odds, predictions and picks

ESTRADA (-165) is a good play on the 3-way line if you just want to bet the fight straight up and not get involved with method of victory, individual round betting, etc. He has the confidence of his previous win over Gonzalez, albeit nine years ago. In addition, the common opponent of Rungvisai is telling. Estrada handled his business, while Gonzalez was knocked around twice.

If you do get a little more specific, playing ESTRADA ON POINTS (+135) is the way to go for method of victory, especially at plus-money.

Claressa Shields vs. Marie-Eve Dicaire fight odds, picks and prediction

Breaking down Friday’s bout between Claressa Shields and Marie-Eve Dicaire with boxing betting odds and predictions.

We get a 10-round, 154-pound unification bout when Claressa Shields and Marie-Eve Dicaire meet at Dort Financial Center in Flint, Mich. The title bout set to begin around 9 p.m. ET on pay-per-view. Below, we break down the Shields-Dicaire odds, with boxing picks and predictions.

Shields vs. Dicaire: Fight odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:15 a.m. ET.

Claressa Shields: -1200 (bet $1,200 to win $100) | Marie-Eve Dicaire: +800 (bet $100 to win $800)

Shields has an implied win probability of 92.31% with the -1200 money line odds. Those odds can be expressed as a fraction of 1/12 or decimal of 1.083.

Shields vs. Dicaire: Tale of the tape

Claressa Shields

Shields (10-0-0, 2 KOs) enters this fight unbeaten and looking to add Dicaire’s IBF belt to her collection. The three-time division champion is trying to make history, as she would become the first fighter in history to hold undisputed championships in two weight classes at the same time.

Shields will be fighting in front of 375 fans due to COVID restrictions, but those fans will likely be raucous and in her favor, as this fight takes place in her hometown. The Olympic gold medalist from 2012 last fought Jan. 10, 2020, picking up a unanimous-decision win over Ivana Habazin in Atlantic City, N.J. Each of her past six fights have gone the distance, with her last finish coming in a fifth-round TKO over Nikki Adler Aug. 4, 2017 in Detroit.

Place all of your legal, online sports bets at BetMGM Sportsbook. Bet now!

Marie-Eve Dicaire

Like Shields, Dicaire (17-0-0, 0 KOs) is also unbeaten. But she has recorded unanimous-decision victories in each of those 17 professional fights, with no knockouts to her credit. She last fought Nov. 23, 2019, so you have to wonder if rust will be a factor. That last fight was a UD win over Ogleidis Suarez in Quebec City, her third successful defense of the IBF strap.

Shields vs. Dicaire: Odds, predictions and picks

Shields (-1200) is an overwhelming favorite on the 3-way line, and an even larger favorite (-1400) on the 2-way. There is no way to justify laying that kind of bread for such a small return. Let’s be more specific.

It will cost you much less, but SHIELDS ON POINTS (-250) is still a little expensive. However, she has just two knockouts in his 10-fight professional career, and Dicaire has none in 17 pro fights. You can expect this one will be going the distance with some entertaining technical boxing along the way.

If you don’t trust Shields in her hometown, but aren’t sure about Dicaire, either, you can simply play the FIGHT TO GO THE FULL 10 ROUNDS (-350), although that’s a little bit pricey. But given the fact we have had two finishes in 27 combined pro fights between the two combatants, it’s a good bet. The good news is if you pick up the pay-per-view, you’re likely going to get your money’s worth.

Canelo vs. Yildirim: Tale of the tape

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez

Canelo (54-1-2, 36 KOs) heads to South Florida as the overwhelming favorite against the Turkish challenger. He recorded an 11th-round knockout against Sergey Kovalev Nov. 2, 2019, and beat Callum Smith by unanimous decision Dec. 19, 2020.

He hasn’t lost in 13 straight bouts (12-0-1) since a majority-decision setback to Floyd Mayweather Sept. 14, 2013, and he has six KO/TKOs during the span with four unanimous-decision wins, a majority-decision, a split-decision and a split draw against Gennadiy Golovkin. “Cinnamon” weighed in at 167.6 pounds, 0.4 pounds below the limit.

Avni Yildirim

Yildirim (21-2, 12 KOs) is looking to stun the world, a la Buster Douglas vs. Mike Tyson. He suffered a technical-decision loss to Anthony Dirrell Feb. 23, 2019, losing out on a chance at the then-vacant WBC strap. Like Canelo, “Mr. Robot” weighed in at 167.6 pound.

Canelo vs. Yildirim: Odds, predictions and picks

There is no way to justify risking 50 times your potential return on Canelo (-5000) on the 3-way line. You’ll have to get really specific to make a profit.

You cannot even bet on a fight finish type, as Canelo by KO/TKO probably wouldn’t be a very good value anyway.

Instead, look to round group betting for a better play. If you are a little more adventurous, taking Round Group Betting 1, target ROUNDS 5-6 (+350) and ROUNDS 7-8 (+600) for the win by either fighter. If the fight ends anywhere from Rounds 5 through 8, you’ll be well ahead, although you will lose one end.

Or you could just go with Round Group Betting 3, and make a bet on ROUNDS 5-8 (+185) to nearly double up, and you need not pick a fight winner.

If you’re less adventurous, you could cross your fingers and look to Round Group Betting 4, taking fight finish in ROUNDS 7-12 (+250).

Lastly, it’s worth a small-unit play taking SAUL ALVAREZ TO WIN AFTER BEING KNOCKED DOWN (+1000). Perhaps Yildirim catches him with a surprise shot early. Canelo is going to win, so why not give it a try? Just don’t get crazy.

Adrien Broner vs. Jovanie Santiago fight odds, picks and prediction

Breaking down Saturday’s welterweight bout between Adrien Broner and Jovanie Santiago, with boxing betting odds and predictions.

We get a welterweight bout between Adrien Broner and Jovanie Santiago at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Conn. Saturday. The fight is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on Showtime. Below, we break down the Broner-Santiago odds, with boxing picks and predictions.

Broner vs. Santiago: Fight odds

Adrien Broner: -750 (bet $750 to win $100) | Jovanie Santiago: +500 (bet $100 to win $500)

Broner vs. Santiago: Tale of the tape

Adrien Broner

Broner (33-4-1, 1 no contest) returns to the ring after a 25-month layoff, and of course the biggest question will be whether “The Problem” has any rust. A series of legal issues derailed his career, but he is hungry to get back on top. Broner is still just 31 years old, and the four-time, multi-division champion and he is heavily favored against what most feel to be a tune-up fight against a tomato can. It might take a couple of rounds for Broner to get his sea legs after a lengthy hiatus, but you can expect him to take over by about the fifth round and end this thing before it gets to the seventh.

Jovanie Santiago

Santiago (14-0-1) is a fighter that is a bit of an unknown. He has registered 10 knockouts, but no one is seriously thinking he will be able to shock the world. Santiago doesn’t have nearly the power of a pre-layoff Broner, and there is no reason to believe “The Problem” won’t bring that same power to the ring Saturday. That’s going to be a problem for Santiago, who will easily be facing the most polished opponent of his career.

Broner vs. Santiago odds, predictions and picks

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 1:05 p.m. ET.

Broner (-750) is just way too expensive, costing you seven-and-a-half times your potential return on the 3-way line. That’s not a good long-term betting strategy, especially when it comes to a guy who hasn’t fought in over two calendar years. Let’s get more specific instead.

Instead, look to BRONER BY KO/TKO/TECHNICAL DECISION OR DQ (+100) on even money. It might be a slow-go early on, but in individual round betting, target BRONER IN ROUND 6 (+1400), BRONER IN ROUND 7 (+1200) and BRONER IN ROUND 8 (+1200). Yes, you will lose two ends of that three-round block, but if Broner gets it done in Rounds 6-8, you will be well ahead. You can also get a little more wiggle room in Round Group Betting 2, taking BRONER IN ROUNDS 5-8 (+350). And if you want even more room for error, and you need not even bet a specific fighter, taking ROUNDS 7-12 (+200) in Round Group Betting 4 is a good chance to double up.
